Meatman Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Does this person have any affiliation with Nathanael Kuipers? Looks like they got a nice profit. LINK Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Look at the text in ad.... Thinning out my husbands collection Quote
roamingstop Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hmm maybe - but then the husband has a massive collection of toys, childs clothes and other items so more of a marketing ploy. Quote

Yeah, I think they are full of crap because they have been selling Skyliner's Lamborghini model as a Kit along with his instructions. Edited February 9, 2012 by Meatman Quote
AndroTech Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 And he even didn't bother to make it right. I see, that the lights and the upper part of front bumper are wrong. Quote

It seems that they just used whatever parts that they had available. I suppose this is how they are making it their own. Quote
Finntech Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) If somebody has bought instructions from mr. Kuipers, and parts for the car from somewhere and is now selling the car as second handed... Then I don't really see where's the problem. Would be different if he/she have taken lots of copies from instructions and selling them. Or is here something I don't understand? E: ok I see now she do not mention that it's NK:s design.. then it is a bit on the grey area. Edited February 9, 2012 by Finntech Quote
Blakbird Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hmm maybe - but then the husband has a massive collection of toys, childs clothes and other items so more of a marketing ploy. This story is familiar to me. Woman divorces husband, takes all his stuff, then sells it for the money. Buying any of it is extremely bad karma. No way anyone "thins out their collection" by having their wife sell it on eBay. This same seller is reselling Skyliner's Countach model and his instructions even though they are copyrighted. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Ok.. The person that is selling/sold this model actually messaged me through Ebay few months ago about selling his model as a kit and I told them that it was NOT a good idea and that they should e-mail Nathanael and ask for his permission, which I found out from him today that they did not and he knew nothing about it... Here is the bottom line: There is nothing that can be done about it, but it is in fact morally wrong... Otherwise there would be 20 people on Ebay doing the same thing... But most people have morals... Regardless of what some people may think, what is being profited here are Nathanael's talents, not the fact that someone gathered up the parts and built it(very improperly I might add) Someone said in another thread here about selling others work for profit "Well this is no different than someone buying a Lego set and building it and reselling it" Actually it is different because if you buy for example the 8110 Unimog for $200 USD and build it and then sell the built model on Ebay and get $150 USD, you know damn well that you are not going into that auction expecting to make a profit... Not the case here at all... The real profit that was made here in this case is within the build of the model which is highly unique and that uniqueness in turn is what generated the profit... This is a sad sad world that we live in... Quote

Now, business reasons aside (for which there are many) you can be sure that my lego collection (which grows by the day) is most certainly part of the prenup we are working on. The irony of course is that Legos will be the very catalyst of the impending divorce. Then again, my friend has pointed out that its all for not if I die...in which case estate planning is in order. Maybe ill just donate it all to Eric's Lego Technic Museum. Quote

Meatman Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 I think if anyone ever intentionality sells someone else's model just to make profit, they could at least include the original designer's name in the description. It may actually help increase their profit in the end. I am sure this isn't the last time that we'll see this happen. Quote
