Minifig Lecturer Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Layout Here are some pictures of my Legoland City. :-) I would like people to suggest changes or ideas if they have any :-) I have knocked down the tall blue apartment block and expanded the black old town castle walls. I have also replaced the large bridge. I am making a river at the moment. I will put up some new pics soon. You can view the Latest Photos here Quote
Hinckley Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Here are some pictures of my Legoland on Brickshelf. :-) I would like people to suggest changes or ideas if they have any :-) i listen to good advice |-/ Calvin's www.Brickshelf.com weirdo stuff Great stuff! You really do have a whole country there. I like your seaport and your train cargo station, especially. I also think it's cool how you mized castle and pirates in. The castle gate is a very cool idea. If I were to give you any suggestion it would be to keep revisiting your favorite buildings and keep taking pictures. It would be great to see you add on and re-build that stadium and 10 years from now look at all the different stages it went through. Great work! Quote
alex54 Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Nice to see a new city from a new Eurobricker! Your town is complet and big! The black castle integration is well done. A more global pic will be welcome to have a general view of your town. Nice stuff! Quote
gylman Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Very nice! I guess you have your town in the attic. My suggestion is that it does not all need to be so packed together. IF you have the room, why not seprate it out a bit? Also, and again only if you have room, the city does not have to be square. If you have a central area, with some parts of the city emerging to the side of it, like a peninsula, you can build more things and also access them. Perhaps you already have done this, but it is hard to tell from the pictures. An overhead shot or something which shows the whole thing would be great Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted October 21, 2006 Author Posted October 21, 2006 Thanks guys for the comments and suggestions!! :-) I have added a picture of a global view of my country. Yes gylman it is in the attic so i had to take a few pics to get the overall impression as the beams *wacko* get in the way! the pics should be here: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/legoland...ity-oct2106.jpg i made quite a lot of changes today. hinckley! unfortunately this is my stadium maybe number 50, but i had no camera in the past :-( in other stadia ive made, ive had more detail and bigger terraces and christmas lights built-in to light up the pitch at night. i will try and modify this one to have the the lights as the effect can be very good. well, see you around Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 Layout I have made a few changes to my city today and yesterday. :'-) Here are the changes in pics. You might notice more differences with last weeks photos on my brickshelf. This first pic shows the new extended old town walls and the start of the new lego river These 2 pics show the old city centre with building A and the new high density commercial and residential buildings being built. The only building completed so far is the yellow and red McDonalds (with windows) outlet. One other building will be a VOL bank branch, other 2 buildings not sold yet. This picture shows lego river so far. I might change the green plates which 2 giant grey plates and also have a loading yard for the train station... ? This pic shows the new suspension bridge replacing the old one which u can see on brickshelf if u are bored ;-) The new McDonalds branch is shown closer up. Its the 2nd branch to open in a week, the other being a windowless branch in Legoland Town Over the weekend I hope to put in christmas lights into the football stadium so matches can once again be played at night. Anyone any suggestions?? I like ideas :-) Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 Thankfully tomorrow is friday so I can do more :-) Quote
highlandcattle Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I think some of your buildings are a bit to square-ish. But otherwise it looks great. I would love to see it in real life! Quote
natelite Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 i like it. it is large and grand. as for suggestion, i myself like a smaller but more detailed town, where buildings have more decorative parts (what space fans known as greeblies). i think a few folks were discussing this point in the skyscraper thread. if you are a fan of large cities, i think it is fine as it is. perhaps varying the architecture will make it more interesting (ie change the building design, not just the color). Hi highlandcattle, Actually I did not really notice this, but now looking at them I see what you mean :-D I have started some more (biggish) changes today but I think my altered buildings will now be a mixture of square-ish and rectangularish :'-( but at least i am aware of the [] issue, so thanks for this! i like it. it is large and grand. as for suggestion, i myself like a smaller but more detailed town, where buildings have more decorative parts (what space fans known as greeblies). i think a few folks were discussing this point in the skyscraper thread. if you are a fan of large cities, i think it is fine as it is. perhaps varying the architecture will make it more interesting (ie change the building design, not just the color). hi natelite, one problem I have is that I do not have many special bricks (e.g. nice windows, arches, curved pieces etc) for making my buildings have more character but I know what you mean. I want to have a detailed town with detailed buildings and these greeblies so my plan is to try and do this over time, by building and redeveloping the buildings over and and over again, each time hopefully improving them. I am looking around here for ideas, although usually the amount of specialised bricks some ppl use would be impossible for me without taking out a bank loan! Again thanks for these suggestions guys, i will try to implement them *y* I will post an update picture tonight after I finish some work on it and eat my chinese takeaway :-) Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted October 28, 2006 Author Posted October 28, 2006 Okay I made some changes yesterday evening and this morning and here are the changes in pictures. Anymore suggestions or comments are very welcome as more heads are better than 1!! :-) X-O :-| 8- Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 Sunday pics: New lighting is currently being installed in the San Siro stadium New aqueduct under construction to bring "fresh" water to the city Quote
Scouty Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 This is really neat! The aquadect looks cool! What did you use to light the stadium up? Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 This is really neat! The aquadect looks cool! What did you use to light the stadium up? Hiya, I used christmas lights, just plain white ones, nothing special. They can be good but so far its hard for me to fit them in the stadium and hide the big wires! :'-( Quote
Scouty Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Try using some LED's. You can attatch them to flat batteries and you can just take the battery out when you finished. If this is to much, then conect the lot of LED's together and attatch it with wire and use a battery pack to charge at least a section or a bigger one for all of them> How many places are the lights used in? Quote

Yes actually LEDs sound like a good idea but I dont like anything to do with batteries! You know, batteries suck for cost reasons. But maybe i can have LEDs off the mains power or some transformer device off the mains. LED wiring can be very thin and they are small bulbs right? Maybe they are cheap too?? So far I am just putting the lights in the stadium, i might try and put them in some buildings but I'm in no rush because it is difficult to hide wires :-X (and i'm a lazy lump) Quote
Scouty Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 LEDs are cheap, though the batteries are not. Though, if you are looking for very bright whit leds, the may be from 3-5$ . You can get cheaper ones for $1.00, about. A main power supply is a good idea :-), but you have to make sure voltage is right because you don't want to 1. Blow them out and 2. Have not enough power. :-) Quote

However you know, i think lights in city buildings can give an amazing effect so i might stage some in my city (i.e. lust quickly place christmas lights around the city without spending much time hiding the wires). Then i can take some photos in the distance and the wires will be unnoticeable :-) :-) :-) Quote
