rriggs Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 More work done today....still even more tomorrow. Comments still welcome. Loving the folding doors already! Really authentic. Are you going to go for a white plastered slightly art deco feel as was the fashion? Cheers Rog Quote
solta Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Folding doors look awesome. Great work. Keep building. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks for your kind words 'rriggs' and 'solta'......oh, and the answer 'rriggs' is yes, the garage will have an art deco feel to it...more work being done tomorrow. Keep watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) Garage is done (minus garage workers). Bank is next....tram too ! Comments welcome. Keep watching. Edit - I have been able to take a really great shot of all the structures so far in my 50's street. Edited March 1, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote
MadManMingo Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 That's a really great strip you've got going LT. It's a great proof that stickers ain't allways bad, as some folks say. They can really bring life to a MOC, especially when it's done thorougly like in your creations. Great job! I'm not that keen on you'r mirror in the hairdresser though. I think that a Lego MOC should be Lego-elements only (except stickers ). But hey, that's just me... love your work either way Quote

But hey, that's just me... love your work either way Thanks for your comments 'MadManMingo', yes and it only takes a couple stickers to convey what each structure is. Sadly Lego don't have a mirrors, except of course in the Friend's theme there is something. I'm currently looking at bank building designs from the 1950's. Keep those comments coming and keep on watching. Quote
MadManMingo Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) A Bank is always a very natural addition to a scenary. It took TLG forever to find out about that, until we got 3661. We could really need an official bank modular from TLG. Luckily you won't have trouble fitting in an ATM in this bank, like in the SparNord Edited March 1, 2012 by MadManMingo Quote

Luckily you won't have trouble fitting in an ATM in this bank, like in the SparNord True, it is a natural addition to any street scape especially mid-20th century and no ATMs back then.....only a night safe maybe....from what I have seen so far suburban banks of the 50's in Oz were a little plain indeed. I'll start work on the actual bank building tomorrow, must use what I have in stock....funds running low again. Quote
AussieJimbo Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 The street is looking fantastic, LT. It's fun watching it grow. Can't wait to see the tram. :classic: Quote

Can't wait to see the tram. :classic: Thanks 'AJ' , like I said I will have the bank structure started tomorrow, but I have run out of 8x16 and 1x8 black tiles....so the road/tramway won't be added to till more funds become available. Any suggestions for a late 40's/early 50's tram.....must be Australian and prefer an MTT type ? Edited March 1, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote
Oran Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Very nice job. Too bad you could not do 3D lettering like on the first store you linked. Coles should give you some FlyBuys for this! Quote

Coles should give you some FlyBuys for this! Thanks 'Oran' , I'll be working on the bank this morning and sadly, I don't have a Flybuys card any more plus I'm not sure if Westfarmers who own Coles would care or not. Updating later today.....keep watching. Edit - ground floor exterior of bank completed, next floor on it's way...then interior to both levels....though bank logo and name stickers designed ready for printing. More tomorrow. lightningtiger Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Bank exterior is finished, but the interior and pavement/road/tramway to come. As usual I say it again, more to come and keep watching. Quote
MadManMingo Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I might steal that front door of yours in some moc of my own. I really like the effect it brings with the wedging sidepanels around the door. And d'you know what? It ain't the stickers that makes this bank look 50's. It's the bricks I mean no bad about your stickers, you know that. But you've got the bricks to speak for themselves in this one. That look and color combination makes this bank look grand Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Thanks 'MadManMingo' , I've used different bank building designs from the 1950's and even earlier to come up with this creation. The stickers just give and name/i.d. to this building, in a few days I'll have the road/tramway in front of it done (money issues at the moment) plus the interior downstairs.....upstairs I'm not sure about yet(could be left empty, or as a storeroom or even an office being repainted/rebuild by a builder). Any suggestions feel free to post them. Quote
Ash Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Did you have any plans to do any vehicles? There are some great iconic cares from that era, but I'd imagine they'd be really difficult to get looking right. Also whenever I see it I feel like it needs a Salvation Army Band. For some reason that seems like a typical 50s Aussie thing to me! It's looking fantastic though. When you're done there's a few parent's of friends back in Australia I'll be linking to it, I think they'd appreciated it. Quote
AussieJimbo Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) Great addition, LT. > Any suggestions for a late 40's/early 50's tram That depends, what city is your street in? If it's in Bickelaide then perhaps a traditional Glenelg tram. An H-class Glenelg Tram - wikipedia The wikipedia articles on Trams in Australia are a good read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trams_in_Australia I'd like to build one of these: Sydney R class no 1923 at Sydenham railway station, 20 November 1954 - wikipedia Tram 2010 at the Darling Street Wharf, Balmain - wikipedia :classic: Edited March 3, 2012 by AussieJimbo Quote
Oran Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I was wondering if doing one of the already done cars like from Indiana Jones would work like this one. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the positive feedback 'Oran', 'Ash' and 'AJ', plus a double thanks to 'AJ' for the tram suggestions.....I'm looking at a H1 series tram which was sliver with a dark red strip along the bodywork of the tram or a smaller Birney tram which were run in Adelaide and Bendigo. Keep those suggestions and ideas coming.....any ideas for what can go behind the teller counter ? Edit - I'm actually working on the rolling chassis for the tram....harder to do than the 501 diesel I made last year. Edited March 3, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Nice improvement LT I like the gray bricks effect in the white wall of the bank, great job! Quote

Thanks 'LT12V', I only decided on the grey brick work yesterday when I thought a two storey bank was needed in my street scape. Ground floor interior almost finished, any ideas for upstairs ? marvinblue Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Love the work you've done LT!! The whole facade looks fantastic! I was wondering if the garage from Town Plan would fit in at all? Still, it looks wonderful. Can't wait for the tram! Quote
