Posted February 18, 201213 yr Hi Everyone, a friend of mine is building a real house and wants to also build a model of it first for some planning. It would be 1x1 meter and therefore need a lot of white bricks. I know the usual sources, bricklink, PAB and so on. Which one do you think is the best, i.e. cheapest and fastest way to get that many white bricks? They can be used. I am sure many of you pro builders have had such a task, so I ask for your advice.
February 19, 201213 yr For basic white bricks PaB is pretty expensive. Bricklink may have what you are looking for at a dirt cheap price but maybe not in the quantity you need. What captain green hair suggested might be your best option.
February 20, 201213 yr Author Thanks everyone. Yeah, PAB is great for small pieces, but difficult for big pieces. A cup would be full very soon. Bricklink has bricks for 1cent a brick, but as soon as you look for 200 bricks, prices come near S@H. I dind't know it was possible to ask TLG directly, maybe i'll try that. I have seen some "5kg white bricks" offers on ebay, maybe this could be a way. I'll try to make my friend change the scale first. 1x1 meter is pretty big, even if its just the blueprint...

Yes, at that scale you will be investing a lot into this project. How about a digital model?
February 23, 201213 yr Author Yes, at that scale you will be investing a lot into this project. How about a digital model? Hmm, not a bad idea. The guy building the house is a programmer, so he might enjoy it.
February 23, 201213 yr Apart from the options already given, if you live near a lego shop and the PaB wall has what you want, ask the staff nicely if they'll sell you a case/box of bricks. Sometimes they may want to fill the cups with bricks from the case to work out the cost but you can usually talk them down a bit by saying you'd fit them in less cups if they were stacked. It's another option to sometimes get the bricks you want for a little less. gl.
February 24, 201213 yr My local b&m lego shop will order the box of bricks for you (about $80 if I remember correctly) but I believe it has to be a brick that is on their availability list. If you have a store close to you may be worth asking. But really I would suggest digital or smaller scale.
