I understand that, but there's also the general tone. The counter-accusations are REALLY hate-filled, especially the stuff between Metro and Def, and then there's what you said:

All this is not to say I couldn't take it were I playing, but I wouldn't like it, and I suspect others feel the same. Let's also not forget how early it is in the game; if everyone's already being this harsh, imagine how much worse it will get a few Days down the line, with tensions even higher! :look:

Well imagine if we were really in this situation, I think there would be a lot of hate filled anger statements being thrown around. Now I have been criticised a few times for my aggressive approach in a few games. However I get my point across and if it takes a little anger to do so then thats fine. At the end of the day I always PM someone I may have crossed the line with and apologise. What happens in game, stays in game, like I just said, its a game.

Flipz, if the players aren't allowed to play in the discussion thread, neither are the spectators.

Precisely. So Flipz, could you please not discuss people's actions from the Day thread and lecture them in the C&D thread?

This is more of an EB-Mafia in general question/suggestion, but here's a thought:

Create, say, 50 new EB accounts, "MafiaAcct_1, MafiaAcct_2, etc", give control of these to the host(hosts, if there are two+ smaller games going at once). Along with role PMs, users are assigned one of these mafia-specific accounts. All posting in the day thread or pm's playing the game should be done on those accounts, and there should be no name-claiming, in thread or in private (MafiaAcct_1: 'I'm swils and I'm town, trust me!'). Only at the end of the game would it be revealed who was controlling each account. After the game, the accounts' passwords are changed, and they are held onto until the next host needs them.

No more direct metagaming. More decisions based on the day's actions, instead of decisions based on the day's actions in comparison to actions in previous lives. Thoughts?

I Like it!

I thought about suggesting that, but it's a bit of an extreme measure. And it'd be really cumbersome whenever surfing the rest of EB.

That is a really cool idea. I think someone should definitely try it! Maybe even Fellow them all so they can change their usernames to their character names.

It's a good idea, plus you'd still have your own account.

Regular browser (Chrome, in my case), stay logged in as "swils"

Alternate browser, say, Firefox, stay logged in as "MafiaAcct_1"

Just have the sense about you to open Firefox when you want to play Mafia. And try not to browse the thread with your main account, then shortly afterwards post from your MafiaAcct

Similar things have been discussed before. There is the inherent problem of being able to spot people's normal posting styles even when disguised by the account. It wouldn't be surprising if players then tried to obscure their posting styles by trying to imitate other players, but even then some are easier to hide/ spot than others. Keen observers would note the times when posts were made and who else is/ isn't online at the same time (and the likely timezone of the poster), plus Staff members might have an advantage. :sceptic:

I'm not sold on this. I think it would overcomplicate the whole thing rather than facilitate the process of eliminating metagaming. If anything, I could envisage some people metagaming even more if that were to happen...

I really don't see how I was "playing" the game, I was just pointing out how harsh things seemed to be getting, like Kiel was pointing out how metagame-y things seem to be getting. Apologies if that's playing the game. I'll back off now. :cry_sad:

Can we have a dead writeboard Badboy?

Seconded. If it's ok with you badboy I could set-up one. The 'dead' players need to have an avenue to discuss the game after their participation were prematurely cut-off. :cry_sad: I hope it's ok with you.

I have the same thoughts as Pandora. Even if this were actually possible (is it?), I think there is more to metagaming than just usernames. IMO, part of playing mafia is inheriting a role, so the better people do that (and not just by roleplaying, mind you, I mean actually playing for your team and completing win conditions, etc. as well), the less metgaming we will have. Besides that, there will always truly be some form of metagaming, even if some show it less than others.

Correct. Everyone suddenly speaks Fanglish. I think it'd be fun to try to seem like somebody else though. Or to keep switching.

It's a thin line to walk, and why I rarely comment on games I'm not playing in, especially if I'm following them closely. The trouble is that it is often hard to tell what will effect the players. Best to save your thoughts until the conclusion, it's what I do, and will probably do now in games I play in, as def has (correctly) corrected me a number of times for what I wrote in the discussion thread. I do have notes about player interaction in general, actually from what I experienced during the last game, and am seeing a repeat of this game, but I forgot to mention it then, and now is an inappropriate time to mention it, as there is a game going on and I don't want to affect it. Though def actually said my main point already.

Really, it's my own fault for trying to play mod. No, that wasn't a typo.

Why was the thread closed a few hours early? The votes weren't unanimous, and I had some questions I wanted to put out before the night started. I was depending on a 72-hour day :sceptic:
