Hello all! In this topic I'll be presenting my current Castle project, namely Redmayne manor. Since I like to post the progression of a MOC, I've decided to this for this MOC, too. So instead of showing the complete MOC at once, I'll be posting updates every now and then, like I did with my ship

As was the case with my other project, this is also rooted in the background I made up for my LEGO Castle/Kingdoms world. You can find more about the background in my flickr stream. Anyway, onto the fictional introduction and the first pictures of my MOC :sweet: !

For many years young master Baldwin had quested, proving himself and earning the highly apraised title of knight. He served alongside the Steward of Ennon, Keeper of the Holy Throne, when he waged war against the fiendish Ankorians, driving them out of the Dwarven Kingdoms and Transmonsia.

His pockets filled with coin, master Baldwin returned home. The Redmayne family hall had stood proudly and strongly for ages and was built by Baldwin's great forebears. As was traditional in the old days, the structure was made of wood, the finest to be found in all Northern Ennon. The young knight felt it was time to move on, however, and ordered the old building to be torn down. News had reached his ears of a renowned Avalonian architect, who had brought many new building techniques to the field. Confident in his wealth, Baldwin, too, ordered his new home to be build in the style of opus Cadarnigenum, a Low Atlantic term meaning 'work of Cadarn origin' *. And thus the construction began. Baldwin enlisted the finest architect Northern Ennon could offer: Robert 'Bob' Builder. May the blessings of Holy Sigurd help us!

- Kornelius the Scribe, Chronicles of the Redmayne family

* Obviously, I'm referring to the building style used by EB member Derfel Cadarn.

Front view. The well is the only piece that I've finished completely so far. You can see Baldwin visiting the construction site with his guards. The guy with the Phrygian cap is the architect, Robert Builder.

3.jpg

Bird's eye view. The entrance will be built on the left, where the scaffolding is now.

4.jpg

Rightside view. This is the view of the right side of the manor. The colorful supports will of course be hidden by a wall of 'normal' colored bricks  .

As you can clearly see, the entire building is still very WIP. Patches of brightly colored bricks still need to be built over and covered with green or other colors. I still need to continue the landscaping, but I'll probably do that last, since I don't really like doing it  . The scaffolding in the pictures will obviously go away once I continue building. I just put it there to 'enhance' the presentation of the building's construction.

So, there you go! I know there's not much to comment on already, but rest assured updates will come :classic: .

Here's the brickshelf gallery: Redmayne Manor . It doesn't contain more pics than the ones I posted, though (for now!).

It´s great to see works in progress like this, to get a feel how it developes. Look´s promising!

Got a great start going. I like the bit of the dirt path you have there. The foundation is also done well. One suggestion, maybe throw in some light bley 1x2 tiles to give a better look to it.

This is a brilliant start I like how it feels that the figs themselves are building it  . The well looks wonderful as does the lower wall, I quite like the fact its all the same colour which for a new building it could be as time has yet to errode the new shine off the bricks.

Can't wait for an update.

Thanks for the comments, everybody!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm going to keep it as it as. I like the dark grey stones versus white walls contrast, plus I don't really have nearly as much light grey tiles as dark grey ones  .

Thanks! I have to give credit to Derfel for the well, though. I mostly copied his well from the Medieval Village Building Guide. The next update will be on Sunday, I think. I have to work tommorow and I don't have the camera near me today to take some pics. I have continued building, though. The walls are now somewhat higher, I've added some windows and reworked the dirt path.

Stay tuned!

Looks nice. I like the bricks patterns on the sides.

As promised, here are some new pictures :sweet: .

5.jpg

The carpenter has stopped by and now some of the windows are already in place! Inside you can see I've begun to tile a part of the floor. You can also see the first of four or so benches + tables that will adorn the hall.

I've also rearranged the pathway. The entrance will be built on the left.

8.jpg

Close-up of the bench and table. As I've said, about four of these will be placed in the hall, where the lord's loyal friends and subjects can come to feast.

6.jpg

Close-up of the first fully completed window and roofing. As you can see, the roofs of the hall will be dark blue.

7.jpg

A picture of the back. Here a small shrine adorns the wall. In it is a statue of the human God-King Sigurd, the most important deity in the kingdom of Ennon.

There you go. I hope I'll be able to continue building soon and present you all with a new update.

Very nice, especially the window with the log bricks.

looking forward for the next step
