If converted to $ they do look pricey default_sad.gif but then in the UK I think we pay the same in £ as the US does in $, so our prices are actually quite a bit higher. E.g. the Rock Crawler might be £150, it'll probably be about $150 dollars too. Maybe we should buy our Lego from the states and ship it to Europe...

That will probably mean that in the Netherlands the helicopter will be around € 110,-. At that price I will not be sure if I still want to buy that. It looks very steep for a set with around 1000 parts and no PF-elements.

You are forgetting the transport costs and the import taxes. :hmpf_bad:

just found this one

9398 ekiddies.nl

luckily, 149.99 euros works out to $198 usd. thankfully. still not sure if the crawler is worth it. i mean, the unimog cost $200 dollars, and it's got nearly twice the number of pieces. what's more, it was licensed. i hope that even this figure is wrong, as $198 is a lot of money.

I wouldn't pay $200 for the Crawler. I'd pay $150, or maybe $175....maybe...

At max, I would pay $120 for the Crawler. If it is anything more than that, which I am sure it will be, I would rather wait until lego released the motors online to get them.. There's nothing else worth getting from that set at such a high price. I still wish I could have gotten the Unimog, but the price was and still is too high. default_hmpfbad.gif

It all depends on the motors for me. The crawler itself looks cool easthetically but very simple mechanicly, like the PF bulldozer it seems to be only a way of releasing new PF parts. So we'll see, if the servo has propper proportional control so that I can accurately operate pneumatic valves via remote, and if the L-motor has a very high output speed, then i'll be willing to pay a higher price.

I honestly expect the crawler to be $250 in canada, which was the same price as 8043. Interestingly the 8110 is $250 from Lego S&H but only $229 at toys r us.

In UK and other big countries the price at least follows the currency, but here in Norway they remain sky high anyway. The Unimog for example costs 1699 kr, which at the day of realease equalled to about 310 dollars. And in USA the prices remain at the same low level, even with the low value of the dollar. USA gets cheaper LEGO and the rest of the world has to pay more to compensate, especially Norway.

A hour and a half drive and I go from Canada to USA and can save 20% or more on sets. It is frustrating. The lego I buy from S&H comes from the USA no less. I understand there is differences in the supply chain and countries have different tax rates and import fees.

I generally wait until someplace has lego on sale for 20% off to buy it just because I know the sale will come and that at least makes it on par with the american prices. It is bad when you need a sale to be 'equal'.

Since the new 2H2012 Lego Technic sets are now on sale at the German Shop.Lego.com website, there should be some "closure" to this topic. Recall this Feb 23, 2012 topic about POTENTIAL U.S. PRICING for 2nd Half 2012 (2H2012) Lego Technic sets. At the time, Mo_ predicted these prices for the 2H2012 sets (in US Dollars):

9398 4x4 Crawler: US $218.04

9396 Helicopter: US $105.26

9393 Tractor: US $37.59

The actual prices (in Euros, converted to US Dollars) are:

9398 4x4 Crawler: 169,99 € [equivalent to US $212.92]

9396 Helicopter: 89,99 € [equivalent to US $112.71]

9393 Tractor: 29,99 € [equivalent to US $37.56, only $0.03 off the prediction!]

Mo_'s predictions were actually pretty close! *oh2*

Yeah, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. And N2/Atomic bombs, but when are you ever going to encounter those? (always wanted to say that. ) As a matter of fact, the Crawler is going to end up costing about $169.99 USD. My reasoning is supported by the fact that 8070 is 120 euros, but costs $120 dollars in the U.S. Just look at the site, and it's (mostly) proven. Anyway, that's not what I'm excited about. 9396 is only going to cost $89 USD. Boo-yeah, I'll be buying that, maybe even two of 'em, so I could build a big twin rotor helicopter.

Thanks DLuders,

Now that more information has entered the market I think our budgets won't be as woeful as I thought. Now I just have to see how over priced these will be here in Australia and then make a decision as to where to get them from...
