jamilion Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Thanks Brickdoctor, that list is very helpful. And Robin, we're on the same wavelength regarding shiny new pieces fast, but PAB doesn't seem to stock the key decorative and specialty pieces in Morten's list, while Bricklist vendors do have them. Maybe I'll get some from each resource to see for myself. Now that I know it's the same color! Quote
Taiphun Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 quick PAB online question - does their stock rotate or does it mostly stay the same? If I see a piece I need, should I get it right away or wait? Thanks! Quote
mortesv Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) Hi Jamil, thanks for the nice comments . The list is (more or less) what I bought for the bottom plates on Bricklink - the list is rough though. Removing the old bottom and attaching the new plates is the tricky part, but with a little experimentation it can be done (if you remove too much it wont hold, and removing too little makes the new bottom hard to apply). As you can see I have further detailed the ship (especially the engines) using a lot of bricks not on the list. But the additional decoration is just s personal preference - as long as the ship has a bottom it looks much more complete Edited March 18, 2013 by mortesv Quote
tindrith Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I just registered here only to tell you, that this mod looks truly amazing and when my 10221 arrives hopefully this weekend and the finished trophy sits in my living room, I'll immediately start planning to implement your improvements. You are a master, sir. Quote

Taiphun Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Hi Mortesv, Long time in the making.. I'm workign on my SSD now - do you remember how much you lowered the "city" by? Thank you. Quote
mortesv Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Hi Mortesv, Long time in the making.. I'm workign on my SSD now - do you remember how much you lowered the "city" by? Thank you. Hi Taiphun, I lowered the angle of the entire top. This mean the the backmost of the city was lowered about a brick height I think. The middle part was lowered a plate or two - but I cant remember exactly anymore :) Quote
AngeliIpsum Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Heya, im working on adding some mods to my SSD as well, and i was just wondering.. I'm working on remaking the bottom hull like yours, but i dont know how much of it to take off, and how to replace it. Mind posting some pics showing the bottom without the hull plates, for referance? Quote
jamilion Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Mortesv, thank you for your kind feedback and encouragement. It's been nearly two years since I set out asking questions about this, but work and family matters intervened. I had this weekend to myself, and decided to finally do this project. I used Georc's LDD file, thank you for making that. I did find that I had to modify the design to improve its stability, and add some 1x2 flats to the four middle cantilever points to anchor them firmly to the internal frame. I also went off script customizing the aesthetics a bit, which was the most fun, once I had the bottom hull looking right. I got rid of the bridge too, it was falling out anyway from having removed much of the flat bottom. Anyway, here are some pictures of my work for reference. Thanks, Jamil Quote
Kodan Black Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Nice pics Jamil, they really give it the sense of scale that such a large ship possesses. Quote
jamilion Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Thank you Kodan. It's quite a good feeling to bring to life such a gorgeous ship. Especially since so very few toy versions were ever made, and none at this scale. Quote

thomaspougheon Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Hi guys, I am also fully intersted in recreating this mod but the link from Georc's LDD file do not work :( Is it possible to give the right link in order to see the modifications and the directions in order to recreate the mod ? Thank you !!! Quote
VaderFan2187 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Holy Moly this is awesome! I think the set is average. It looks good, but the greebling is just too repetitive to look as detailed as it could be. But your MOD looks great Quote
szimson Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) Hello, sorry for the necro post but maybe someone would be able to help me. I have recently tried to recreate this mod for my SSD. However, I'm a bit stuck and can't figure it out of the images provided, since they are really blurry. So, there might be a chance that some of you did it and I would like to ask if you could provide high resolution pictures of the bottom of your SSD's hull, towords the front of the model. j As you can see on the above image, I'm missing the very front panels and that's what I would like to see on your ssd Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Edited March 3, 2018 by szimson Quote
