CMP Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 "I could engage them in combat off to one side, let you guys sneak in, and flee. Assuming I don't have to have a round of combat first."
Rufus Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Before we try any distractions, perhaps we should try to hear what they're talking about. Atramor, maybe you could employ your roguish talents, and sneak along the alley we're in, until you get to the junction at the end opposite where they are. Maybe you'll be able to hear from there?
CMP Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 After confirming he cannot wall jump up to the roof, Atramor pulls what remains of his hat down over his head, and tries to sneak along the alley to the east of the party until he can successfully eavesdrop. Hopefully his badass Rogue sneaking skills would kick in. And of course, McCafferey was left with the rest of the party, flapping quietly around the group.
Scubacarrot Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 (edited) Atramor walks to the corner, and takes a look around it, and what he can see is that several of the Wolfgang members are looking straight towards the alley, if he would move along it, there is a big chance he would be seen. There is no cover of any kind. Edited March 24, 2012 by Scubacarrot
Rufus Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Bah. Well, thanks for trying, Atramor. Back to the distraction idea, I guess.
CMP Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Atramor shifts back into the party's branch of the alley. "I'd suggest Nyx cloakin' me with darkness with that Amethyst or such, but I dunno if it's worth an Ether just to see what these guys are tryin' to accomplish...but I agree with Rufindel, a distraction'll actually get us somewhere. I still think me drawing them and then fleeing's worth a shot, unless anyone else has a better idea. These are thieves, not animals, I dunno if fire will really draw their eye."
Scubacarrot Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 Atramor realizes that it is day, perhaps cloaking in darkness will have the opposite effect.
Scubacarrot Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 If there is no action soon, the Wolfgang might spot the party!
CorneliusMurdock Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Cronk think trying distraction best bet.
Pandora Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 "Right, I actually think the safest thing is for Atramor to distract them, that way if he does end up in combat then he can escape. If I just start a fire and they wander over to me, then they might just want to investigate the items I'm carrying, or slit my throat for the hell of it, and I don't fancy that much. Like you say, fires aren't all that uncommon in these seedy districts, but maybe if you and your chicken put on some sort of show.... well, who knows, perhaps they'll be so entertained they pay you? "
CMP Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) Atramor nods to the party, walking along the outside of the building, opposite the alleyway itself, before appearing in the junction of the street facing the Wolfgang. McCafferey has reperched herself on his shoulder. With a sharp intake of breathe, he addresses the gang of thieves. "'Lo, mates," he begins, with a bow and a sweep of his ruined hat. "This is the...Antiquarian, yes? She open for business? Got'an...object of importance I've gotta have checked out, heh..." Edited March 27, 2012 by CallMePieOrDie
Scubacarrot Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 Atramor goes on to distract the gang-members. As soon as Atramor starts speaking, they come at him with weapons drawn. Since the door to the antiquarian is now unguarded, the other three heroes quickly slip towards the door, which opens without trouble. Minutes later, Atramor opens the door, McCaffery seems to be missing a few feathers, and Atramor's hat has a few slices, but he does not seem to have been in major combat. As soon as Atramor is inside, the party bars the door from the inside. And not a minute to soon, as bit later, they hear someone trying to open the door. Through a window to the side, the party can see the Wolfgang outside, but they do not seem to make any more effort to get inside. Finally, the heroes turn around. The party can see a dwarf, and a whole lot of junk.
CorneliusMurdock Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Hello! Cronk's friends and Cronk have come to see if some being here can tell friends about strange amulet friends find.
Scubacarrot Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 "Oh! You don't seem to be with that Wolfgang, which is good! Welcome to my Antiquary, stay as long as you like, just be careful to not break anything. An amulet you say? Let me see, oh yes, well, quite peculiar, interesting, fascinating!" For a good ten minutes, the dwarf examines the amulet, holding it from every angle, before finally saying: "I don't think this is an amulet, there does not seem to be a hole for a cord or chain anywhere. It seems to be made of some sort of stone, but I have not seen any stone of this texture and colour. The markings are engraved, and then painted. I do not recognize them from anywhere, but I have an idea. With a magnifying glass, I could perhaps work out how, and more importantly: where, it was crafted. But there is a slight problem, I seem to have, err, misplaced my magnifying glass in my basement. It should be in a chest, somewhere. If you can find me my magnifying glass, I will forget the usual fee, for having me examine items like this!"
CorneliusMurdock Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Cronk think this not going to be as easy as sounds. Is there something about basement friends should know before going to find magnifying glass?
Scubacarrot Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 "You are observant, and you would be right. Over the years, my basement has become a storage area for a plethora of things, magic or otherwise. I would advise you to be careful."
CMP Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Atramor seems rather pleased with his distraction, hovering near the corner of the room. "Why were the Wolfgang out there? Did they want something outta 'ya?"
Scubacarrot Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 "I don't know, they were there when I woke up today, haven't had any customers because of them! They did not try to get in or anything, though. But are you ready to get in to the basement?"
CMP Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 "Ahh....I s'pose." Atramor didn't voice it, but he was looking forward to whatever the dwarf's basement held in store. Magic or otherwise was just another word for loot. McCafferey rolled her eyes at that thought, though he missed the movement.
Scubacarrot Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) The party goes down to the basement, they find this: Edited March 27, 2012 by Scubacarrot
CMP Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Atramor's eyes sweep the basement, eyeing each combat for both combat usage and value. The others had lagged behind somewhat, he had first call on what to grab, and with his experience searching storage rooms (a good 3 Quests' worth), he could tell each object had many draws, but it was all too obvious which one was best, reaching out one hand for the shaft of the mighty weapon... He grabbed the frog staff and examined it.
Scubacarrot Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 The staff seems to be a solid wooden thing, it could probably take a few blows. The frog on top is also made out of wood, crafted with quite a bit of skill. The ornament is painted lifelike, and the shaft of the staff is painted in a beautiful shade of red. Atramor deducts that the wood used for the staff is grey ash, and the frog part is made out of basswood. He can find no imperfections in the wood, and the staff does not seem to have suffered from any wear. It does not seem to hold any remarkable qualities or magical power. In short: it is useless for the party.

Scubacarrot Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) As soon as Atramor picks up the second staff, a deafening noise, seemingly coming from the staff, starts going off. It sounds a mix of the sound of an elephant and a crying child. Atramor, surprised by the loud sounds, puts it back down, and the sound stops. A wooden label attached to the staff reads: 'The Staff That Can Not Unnoticably Be Stolen'. A voice from above says: "You are supposed to be finding my magnifying glass, not rummaging through my staves!" Edited March 27, 2012 by Scubacarrot
Pandora Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 "Ooooh look, stuff! I love stuff! Hmm, I have a feeling that, much as I'd like Rufindel to strangle a tune out of the banjolele there, we should probably be looking inside one of the three chests. I suspect, quite strongly, that if we choose poorly then we will be faced with a big beastie to punch repeatedly until it falls over. It would be quite handy if we had a magnifying glass to examine the chests for traps, but alas that seems to be the base problem. Atramor, there's an outside chance your cloak may be useful, however I fear the VITS will likely inform us that they are merely chests, made of wood. It's worth a try, though?"
