Posted March 1, 201213 yr The Rise and Fall of Icarus Icarus, a hero of Greek mythology. Imprisoned with his father Daedalus in the labyrinth of the Minotaur they escape through the wings fabrication using beeswax and chicken feathers. Despite recommendations from his father, Icarus too close to the sun that melts the wax. Its wings are disintegrating, and he crashed into the sea which now bears his name. I decided to build this MOC in reaction with the silly face of my avatar on the fabulous creation of my friend 74Louloute:"History of the labyrinth". It must be said that I wanted to create my sigfig since a long time. thank you 74louloute Your comments are welcome !
March 1, 201213 yr It's funny and well-thought up. Very imaginative use of pieces and I love the perspective with a small building in the "distance".
March 1, 201213 yr Oh! Very well done! Anyone that is familiar with the myth should recognize the scene instantly! The only tiny little gripe I have with it is that Icarus didn't wear a helmet (In the myth or in the artworks) but I suppose it is there to give that 'Greek' feeling.
March 2, 201213 yr such a wonderful built moc, I love how you see him both happy and then sad (silly man, he went too close to the sun) a sun made from tridents! Genious
March 2, 201213 yr Icarus wasn't a hero he was a gauche child. In truth Daedalus hated his son and preferred his nephew. The nephew also died in one of Daedalus' stupid experiments but that's what you get for expecting children to be able to fly like a bird. So technically Daedalus killed two children. He then escaped from Crete and made his way to Thera (modern Santorini) where he lived a wretched life like he deserved. However, as a representation of the children's storybook version of Icarus this hits the mark.
March 2, 201213 yr Author Thank you for all your comments @Scubacarrot: Yes, Icarus should not have a helmet because it's not a warrior (A man flying with wings in chicken feathers, it is realistic? ). But one of my favorite representation of Icarus it that of the attraction of the park Europa-Park (Germany) ... wearing a greek helmet. @ Brickenhead-town-dweller: Thank you for the clarification. There are so many different versions of Greek myth ... For example there is one that says Daedalus murdered his nephew Talos by jealousy, because he was more inventive than him. Icare
March 3, 201213 yr Amazing VIG! Lovely faces and the miniscale greek temple is really cool! Nice work!
March 4, 201213 yr stupid little fishhead..... this is SO funny!!!! i love the use of the wings and those individual feathers. love the face too. i bet you could make a vignette of the vulture eating prometheus's liver. (you'll need a LOT OF RED PIECES FOR THAT...) NICE JOB, to building and BEYOND!!!!!!
March 4, 201213 yr You should be really proud of this. It captures the story most are familiar with so well. the perspective on the building is excellent, you framed it beautifully. And I love the sun actually. Very classical representation.
March 4, 201213 yr There are some amazing brick tecniques. I like how you made the sun seem very large, and the sun rays look amazing by using tridents. Also, the perspective was captured perfectly with a small building far down below. Icarus and it's wings are amazingly done, and you chose his faces wisely to represent his joy of flying high, and fear of falling with broken (or melted) wings. It's an amazing work.
