Mothy Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Hi! I'm new here. I've been working on this mobile crane for a long time. It's based mostly on the Kato KA-900, with some heavy modifications made to accommodate the vehicle's added functions. I would love some honest criticism about the detailing! The retractable supports are weak, I know, but there's good reasons for that, I promise! I can't post urls yet it seems :( so if you'd like to see more pics look for me on flickr as MothyWorkshop. Edited out the last picture because it potentially disqualifies this MOC from being posted in Town. Edited March 4, 2012 by Mothy Quote
TheKingOfBuilding Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Woah, I was not expecting it to be a transformer! Brilliant creation, and considering the function, I think you've got a perfect amount of detailing - it looks like you've just managed to squeeze it all in so I don't even know if theres any more room to fit more details! Also I was wondering, is this crane a official transformer (out of the movies/cartoons)? Edited March 4, 2012 by TheKingOfBuilding Quote
Stu83 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) It's also a transformer. Excellent! I was not expecting that when looking at the crane. Edited March 4, 2012 by Stu83 Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Looks great as either 'Mothy', a surprise for sure see it in battle-mode.....the moderators might move it to the sci-fi topic in the end. Brick On while transforming......is it an Autobot ? Quote

Brick On while transforming......is it an Autobot ? It's G1 Hook, the evil Constructicon. Yes it has a third mode Anyways, I knew I shouldn't have included that last picture, argh! I wanted the experienced town vehicle builders to take a look, truly. When I post the dump truck, I will fight the temptation! Fixed the original post to save the thread from relocation. Honestly, the only complaint I can think of, and it's a pretty minor one, is that the raised bit behind the cab looks a little empty. I'm not very familiar with the crane it's based on, however, so maybe that's how it actually looks. Having said that, the whole things looks great. (Especially the part you edited out to keep it in the town forum.) Quote

Many builds don't naturally fit in one of the theme forums. In my view, you could have posted this in either Sci-Fi or Town, depending on the 'audience' you like comments from. It's a nice crane and it's impressive that you managed to make it do what you're no longer showing ( ) on such a relatively small scale. Quote
ER0L Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Awesome crane! Transforming or not - it is a City style crane if it can be used as such IMHO. Its transforming abilities are a great addition. The design of your crane is very smooth, functions are awesome. My only point is that the crane arm does not rest on the roof of the cab. There surely is a certain reason for this, but how about something for this purpose behind the cab? Anyway, very nice work, I am looking forward to the finished crane! Quote

Indeed, I've planned to add that support in, but its a simple procedure and I wanted to make sure to get everything else working first. This build still has a few hours worth of work to do, mostly on the crane turret. That translates to at least a week real time. I'm also new to the photography aspect, gotta set that all up and test it. These shots were satisfactory for the WIP stage, but the final set will be done with a diffused-light box on a white background with tripod and post-production editing and all that fun stuff I know little about Quote
