Lucario Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Well, TLG has already specifically stated it would include both Spider-Man and Robin in sets, and I'm sure the Penguin will return sometime as well. That,at least Robin,Pingu and Spidey.General Dread is one of those DC charaters that is barely known...soo I guess he wont make a appearence. Quote

What did you call me?! *raising an eyebrow and reloading the umbrella* Well, I sure hope that the DC line will get at least three waves, like the original line, since there are indeed tonns of characters to make. Pray, TLC does not return to vehicle vs vehicle consept, and that automatically means more "ground-based" characters. ) Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Edited August 18, 2011 by The Penguin Quote

Joebot Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Pray, TLC does not return to vehicle vs vehicle consept ... That's my concern too. As much as I loved the Batman line, the vehicle vs. vehicle approach that was used for almost every set (with the sole exception of Arkham Asylum) got really boring and repetitive. There are so many other approaches to this license that they could take. Think of all the locations they could do -- The Daily Planet, Xavier's Mansion, the Watchtower, Wayne Manor, Ryker's Island, STAR Labs, the Baxter Building, the Fortress of Solitude. How about a creepy, gothic castle for Dr. Doom? Obviously the main appeal of this theme is going to be the mini-figures. I hope TLC puts some creative energy into the sets though too. Nobody wants a set with Superman driving a little buggy, fighting against Lex Luthor on a motorcycle. Quote

Yep, Marvel is not my thing. Well, as for minifigs, I agree again. LEGO is definitely focusing on those nowadays, making the sets appealing mostly for our favourite characters. Like in HP line or in *gasp* SW. Yep, I wouldn't like to see sets like Batbuggy as well. This set still gives me nightmares where Batman's chasing Mr.Freeze after he robbed a toy store! *shudders* Nah, Lex Luthor has worse crimes to be punished for: And that's terrible. P.S. On the private note, you used to be one of my favourite mambers. Why? You started the original Batman discussion here, on EB! Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote

Anyway, I also hope that they don't make just vehicle based sets. And, as unlikely as it seems, I'd still love to see Minifigures based on the Arkham Asylum/City games. Nobody wants a set with Superman driving a little buggy, fighting against Lex Luthor on a motorcycle. Don't hate me for saying this, but I'm actually hoping they'll stick to the vehicle-based approach. I intend to collect as many of these figs as possible, so I'd rather not have to buy, say, a $120 Mansion just to get Prof. X. And as I have said before, most of these locations are probably too boring for TLC to make them into sets. And that example you gave with Supes and Luthor actually sounds like a plausible set, although I'd expect Luthor to have a large mech rather than a motorcycle, and Supes would have the car only to throw it at him. I never got into the batman sets but I did own the pengi vs robin submarine set. Mylitle brother then went and ate my pengi figure I didn't care though Talk about a choking hazard! And if I were you, I'd watch what I say about the Penguin! Quote

Joebot Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 [On the private note, you used to be one of my favourite mambers. Why? You started the original Batman discussion here, on EB! I did??! Wow, I don't even remember that. And as I have said before, most of these locations are probably too boring for TLC to make them into sets. They don't HAVE to be boring though. Okay, maybe the Fortress of Solitude wasn't a great example. A set with Superman standing around brooding over the destruction of his homeworld probably doesn't offer a lot of play opportunities. But ... TLC has done some decent location-based sets. The Spider Man theme had that bridge set that was pretty good, and the "Origins" set with the lab was okay. The Batcave and Arkham Asylum were both excellent. How about the Baxter Building, for example (for you DC-only folks, that's the headquarters for the Fantastic Four). You could have Doctor Doom attacking the F4 with a bunch of Doombots. The building could have some funky lab equipment and a Fantasticar. I think it's safe to assume that every set is going to be focused on a CONFLICT. There will likely be a good guy and a bad guy. That's practically a given these days. But that conflict doesn't have to be a good buy vehicle vs. a bad guy vehicle. A location (be it a lab, a sewer, a castle, a space station, a skyscraper, a city street, the surface of the moon, or whatever) could be just as fun as a vehicle, and provide just as many play opportunities for the kids. All I'm saying is that comics are full of crazy batsh-t ridiculous stuff. It would be a shame if TLC didn't take advantage of that, and bust out of the same ol' vehicle vs. vehicle concept. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I can see them doing the Baxter Building (it helps that the building has a distinctive appearance, which would enhance its potential as a LEGO model - and indeed, I've actually seen a MOC of it once, and have long wanted to do one of my own), but of course it would have to be once they start doing Fantastic Four sets in general. From what we've read in the press releases, the initial Marvel wave will focus on three areas - the Avengers, X-Men and Spider-Man, leaving the FF for later years, most likely. I think it'll happen, but not in 2012, and therefore not for another two years or so (at least). Quote

It doesn't help an awful lot of people think that the FF are a bit boring. I hasten to add that I don't consider myself among them, I'm a big FF fan, but the non-traditional nature of their stories seems to put a lot of people off for some reason. Still, they're big names. I'm sure they'll make an appearance somewhere down the line. I certainly hope so! Quote

SoupOrFishOil Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 If people are wondering why Wonder Woman or The Green Lantern haven't been written up the set list....consider the fact that it might be first half releases and the other two DC heroes might be second half releases. Just a though ! Weren't the Black Pearl and Arkham Asylum sets announced and released later than the rest of the PotC/Batman sets, maybe The Green Lantern'll at least they come in a set like that, possibly whatever the Justice League's home-base is. I would think that it might include Wonderwoman, and/or Superman and/or Batman, and a couple villians, such as The Penguin. Not that I really associate him as being a Justice League villian, (not that I know anything about the Justice League, really) he is one of the best known Batman DC Universe villians, probably only lesser known that The Joker, Lex Luthor, and Catwoman. I think Wonderwoman will be appearing in a set alongside Batman or Superman, just taking the list of figures we have into account, though it is very well possible that I am wrong. I don't know why Green Lantern would be absent from 2012 release anyway, seeing as he has an action-figure (though I prefer that he has one, rather than Wonderwoman ). I wouldn't be surprised if the three DC action-figures aren't released until the Summer to accompany the three Marvel ones, as LEGO normally always does Action-Figures in groups of Six (though not necessarily, as seen with recent Hero Factory Villians). As Arkham Asylum didn't come out for another three months later than the other Batman Sets, I'd say it's possible a Limited/Special Edition Set will be on the shelves before the action figures, but if I am wrong about the action figures, at least before Marvel takes over the toy aisle (besides Dark Knight Rises sets which were mentioned in a Press-Release). Nah, I don't mess with the freaks that orbit the Earth somewhere there. in fact I do not believe in their existense either. Seriously speaking, I can't recall many stories where Penguin and members of Justice League communicated (apart from Batman). Since Penguin nowadays is the owner of Iceberg Lounge, an underground smuggler and informant, working with villains and Batman, so his role has greatly deminished during the years. But at the same time he became a much more interesting character to my taste. I personally strongly doubt that I'll be using any non-Batman (stricktly) characters in my collection. I have never been a fan of Superman or any JL members with superpowers. For me there is only one superhero - Batman. And heroes who are shooting lasers from eyes and throwing bolts of energy, are simply not my thing. Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
