just2good Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 At the moment, if there ARE any TDKR sets, they must be exclusive to a store. Which isn't a bad thing, as long as it isn't TRU. Either that, or, they spoil the movie too much, in the same vein that the TS3 sets weren't known as much until March 2011, except for prelims. Keep in mind, TDKR comes out in late July. Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 This The Dark Knight Rises set rumor comes from Variety.com. They mention them here and here. I don't know where they got that idea, but I don't think they'd just make it up. LEGO probably at least considered sets based on/coinciding with TDKR. No, as far as I know, no. We're just going of what Lego said about summer sets to coincide with TDKR. Coinciding with a movie isn't the same thing as what Variety said. Variety says "around" which could mean based on, or coinciding with. I'm holding out that we will get new prints for the Bane and or Catwoman for TDKR set or sets. They did give Barbossa two different prints for the first wave POTC set (Isla de la Muerta - 4181) and the second wave set (Fountain of Youth - 4192). Like Barbossa's different outfits, Bane and Catwoman have very different masks in TDKR movie than their existing DC Super Heroes counterparts. If not a new torso print, I bet Lego will at least fit new face prints into their budget. I'm pretty sure both of those sets were in the same wave, seeing as POTC only got one (except for the Black Pearl, which was released stand alone). I would hope they'd do more than one set from the Nolan series. I'd love to see his version of Scarecrow in Lego form. Agreed. I'd prefer a comic based or BTAS Scarecrow, but a Nolan one is better than none at all. But didn't we know we were getting Spiderman and Doc Ock from the press release? I don't recall them mentioning any TDKR variants. True, but the Marvel sets had a spring release and the press release was back last Summer. They would pretty much be telling us what we're getting a year in the future. I don't think that happens too often. I can't say I'm even sure they'd know exactly who is in what set. Quote
FBTBTim Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Dark Knight sets would have been shown by now - they are not coming. The Spidey set wasn't due until August wasn't it? I keep seeing talk where people think it will be the exclusive in the Avengers wave. Quote

I keep seeing talk where people think it will be the exclusive in the Avengers wave. I think it's important to view it as the DC & Marvel Universe waves that they will get released in. DC had the six sets in January, Marvel have six sets in April/May made up of four Avengers sets and two comic canon sets. The spiderman set will be exclusive to whatever store and the longer it goes on the more likely we see TDKR "inspired" or liveried sets come the next winter/January wave for DC. But it's fair to say Lego will expand in some way next year with hopefully a little less Batman a little more everyone else. Same goes for Marvel, but their lineup is already more varied due to the sets being released. Avengers got released as part of the Marvel wave and I think any TDKR sets will likely now get released as part of the next DC wave. Quote

I don't know where they got that idea, but I don't think they'd just make it up. LEGO probably at least considered sets based on/coinciding with TDKR. From the Variety.com article: "WB and Lego already had been producing toys and videogames around the Batman franchise, and will launch a new set of playthings around next summer's "The Dark Knight Rises" through the Lego Batman collection." Due to poor wording people are reading this to mean that LEGO is releasing TDKR sets this summer. I think what it's actually trying to say is that because of this summers TDKR movie, LEGO is centering its 2012 DC Superhero sets on Batman i.e. that's why 5 of the 6 DC sets this year are based on Batman. Next year should see a majority of the DC sets centered around other superheroes. Quote

But ultimately, I hope they release more Batman sets, because we NEED a few more characters. *cough*Comissioner Gordon*cough*Nightwing*cough* Quote

That's a bit of a bummer. While I'm not a big DC follower, I'd like to see more from Superman. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Heard an interesting story yesterday, that the Spiderman set was coming out along with the other Marvel sets in May....that came from a retailer I visited yesterday. Since no images yet, my gut still says August. And if there are any images of TDKR sets they would only appear a month or so before the movie is released...right ? Quote

Depending on Spidermans contents determines whether I plump for the Quinjet or not. It seems an awful long wait from April till next year fro a fresh wave of Superheroes lego, though that may be to let the LoTR "BED IN" so to speak. If I am honest my wallet could do without TDKR sets this year Quote
Piranha Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Hold on, has there been real confirmation for a single TDKR set? I know there has been speculation that there will be some TDKR sets, but you make it sound like there is definitely one. Is that the case? LEGO has not confirmed anything and they usually don't until they are actually released. I mentioned I can't wait until some pictures surface which I always say for any rumors because the implication of when it happens would be the confirmation of the set, therefore I was implying that I was looking forward to if those sets were going to be confirmed by the images. So no I was not trying to make it sound like it is a definite thing that is going to happen sorry if someone reads it like that. Actually, we would've known about any TDKR sets by now. After all, wouldn't the sets be on display at Toy Fair? Not really, the Fun House wasn't known until LEGO released it themselves. At the moment, if there ARE any TDKR sets, they must be exclusive to a store. Which isn't a bad thing, as long as it isn't TRU. Either that, or, they spoil the movie too much, in the same vein that the TS3 sets weren't known as much until March 2011, except for prelims. Keep in mind, TDKR comes out in late July. I am guessing it might be an exclusive as well. Dark Knight sets would have been shown by now - they are not coming. The Spidey set wasn't due until August wasn't it? I keep seeing talk where people think it will be the exclusive in the Avengers wave. I wouldn't call a possible set dead in the water just yet. Next year should see a majority of the DC sets centered around other superheroes. That is only just one possible interpretation of what that text is implying. Yes it could be saying that the first wave of DC sets is just that, but it could also be saying that they could release a new set(s). It could be taken like that by doubters, LOTR and almost all of the 2012 SW sets were all heavily doubted when they were first heard. I am still optimistic we will get at least one TDKR set and a POTC Flying Dutchman. Quote

Since no images yet, my gut still says August. And if there are any images of TDKR sets they would only appear a month or so before the movie is released...right ? Well, as an answer to both of those, the Funhouse was only revealed when it went up for preorder at LEGO.com. If there are only one or two TDKR sets and they're retailer's exclusive, it's plausible. I think that explains the Spider-man set too. If I am honest my wallet could do without TDKR sets this year Yeah, me too. Quote

Piranha Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 It took me awhile to find it, but besides the Variety articles, there was also this poster. With this written by the site (Take the text with a grain of salt) : I know we are in 2011 still, but we cannot help but get excited about the new Lego comic book licences including the Licence for Lego Batman The Dark Knight Returns and the new Superman movie which has been pushed back to the summer of 2013, which along with The Hobbit movie is one of our most anticipated movies for 2012! No I am not saying that proves anything, it just adds to the plausibility FWIW. Quote
Big T Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 From a strickly marketing perspective, you would think Lego will release one or two more Batman sets around the time of Dark Knight Rises. The Superheroes sets would have been out for a while (possibly off the shelves if the rumours of quick turn arounds are to be believed) and the kiddies and AFOL's will be hungry to have sets based off the movie around that time. The real question is will they go all out and give us the new characters? I hope so. It'd be great to get a Nolan Bane, Catwoman and Scarecrow (especially Scarecrow, he's one of my favourite characters and we haven't got him since the original Bat sets. Quote
phanstasm Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) It took me awhile to find it, but besides the Variety articles, there was also this poster. Thanks for digging that up again. Brickset posted a different, more finalized looking version of the Lego Batman Visual Dictionary. There's also a description from DK in the image. I thought this sentence was interesting: "Other famous DC characters like Wonder Woman, Superman, and Green Lantern will also be featured in minifigure form alongside their corresponding sets that will be hitting stores in 2012." DK has put promotional minifigures in their books before (silver Storm Trooper and gold Boba Fett), so they could just mean the GL given away at the SD and NY Comic Cons. Or it could be an error in the description. Or, what we all want, GL will be released in an upcoming set in 2012. They also have an image for the Lego Batman Sticker Book. What's interesting is the Riddler on the cover has the torso from the old line, but is holding a new weapon. It's similar to Joker's bang guns from the old line, but has a Riddler question mark print. Upcoming Riddler weapon or unused production image? You decide! Edited March 12, 2012 by phanstasm Quote
