Iron-Man Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 There is no way to tell how long this will last. Hopefully LEGO can see how popular it is and continue to deliver us sets for years to come Quote
Solscud007 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I am just glad that they had the foresight to invest in it for Avengers. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) Appologies if this has been mentioned already, I didnt much fancy reading through 289 pages to find out Is there a good chance of Lego actually making a Green Lantern set anytime soon? I love the character myself and am very tempted just to bite the bullet and buy the Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive listed on Bricklink but at £127.60, he's not cheap and will make him my most expensive minifig so far. What I dont want to happen is for me to buy that fig and have Lego release a GL set soon afterwards! My thinking is as they already have the Comic-Con fig and the larger 4528 Green Lantern Bionicle style set there is obviously some interest there so surely an affordable minifig set is on the cards? Again if this has already been discussed I appologise for bringing it up again. Many thanks. Well, as much as I regret not taking the opportunity to purchase the fig at about $30 when I could, I wouldn't advise so. I'm not saying that I think that it'll decrease in price, since there are too many completitionists who will keep the price up even if we get a new GL fig. However, I'd say it's highly likely that we'll get a new GL fig. We're speaking of a multi-year license and a character that was popular enough to be released as a promo fig on the Toy Fair. Fingers crossed! Edited May 29, 2012 by johnnyvgoode Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Since The Green Lantern is in the upcoming game I think he will be released in the next wave of the DC Superheroes-line. Although the design of the Comic-con may differ from the one in the upcoming set. The one from Comic-con is based on the movie while the one in the next wave could be based of the design from the game. I would wait for a Green Lantern-set if I was you. (If you're lucky, you can get both Green Lantern AND Sinestro) Although most of my message is mere speculation, I still advice you to wait on the new Superheroes sets. You can't base assumptions for what will appear in the future based on who appears in video games. If you look at Harry Potter, that was pretty much retired as soon as a video game based on the theme was released. I can't think of an example where LEGO has taken TT's minifigure designs and put them into a set, so there is a very small chance we'll get a Green Lantern minifigure exactly like the video game version. I doubt he'll have boots at least, though there would probably be differences in the print. I am sure we'll see Green Lantern sometime soon though, in 2013 that is. I wouldn't promise Sinestro appearing though, but he has a better chance than Cheetah. This has probably been discussed in length already, but does anyone have and idea how long the Superhero theme is going to last? Hopefully it will be just like Star Wars. It's a multi-year license deal, both DC and Marvel that is, so we can expect at least one more year of both. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Today I saw Megablocks sets for the new Spiderman movie. Didn't knew that they as well had a MARVEL lisence. Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Oh, dear MB ! I see the Lego comic version hammering this one into the ground ! One retailer has told me, that thanks to the overload of Super Hero and action themes from not just Lego, but Haspro among others sales of all said product has been poor....the fact is he is clearing Kre-O out and he has sold ONE Marvel SH set in a month. The question now is do we have a hero overload ? Quote

LMB10 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Sigh, and so the Mega Bloks bashing begins again... I got the Hulk set a few days ago, it's really nice. I hope we get some comic based Avengers sets with other heroes and villains. Quote

The question now is do we have a hero overload ? That is very interesting information. Getting a Marvel and DC license for Lego with multiple Super Hero movies coming out this year probably would flood the market with all things Super Hero. Most of the stores near me do not have that many Super Hero themed sets. Almost all of them have a lot of the Ultra-Builds, but none of the actual sets. And most don't have a spot on the shelf for them to represent them being out of stock. They just simply do not have any, so that is odd as well. I wonder if sales will be down and the theme will end sooner than expected (and I don't mean anytime soon). I'm sure it will last a while, as long as Super Heroes sell products. Quote

How about working on the quality of your posts? you didn't even spell Marvel right. And let's stay away from Marvel vs. DC flame wars, too, shall we? Sorry to mini-mod, but could you use a little better grammar and spelling? Apologizing in advance doesn't excuse mini-modding. Just don't do it. Quote

Wow, that Spidey fig sucks. I'm so glad that Lego has the comic book license and not the movie license, because I'd hate to see such an ugly Spidey fig. Of course, I was slightly let down by Lego's new minifig, but seeing that pic, I recognize it could be worse! Quote

TenorPenny Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I think the lack, so far, of actual comic-based sets for Marvel is very interesting. The Wolverine one was pretty generic, either way (I found the inclusion of Deadpool to be just a reason to include a helicopter, but one can see the huge fan appreciation of a Deadpool figure), but apart from X-men the Marvel sets have been either movie or TV-show based. Us X-Men fans can only hope we get a few more of these generic sets, as opposed to anything based off of any of the newer (and in my opinion terrible) X-Men films. I'd be thinking parts of the Mansion, a X-Men VS Sentinel set and - of course - a Blackbird set to match the Quinjet set in coolness. Quote

Stormer13 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I don't really understand what is wrong with the Mega bloks Marvel figures. They have taken a different route than any other constructive brick brand (A.e Lego Kre-o) I personally own at least one of every figure from series 1-3 of the blind pack line and i must say they are amazingly detailed and have a great sculpt. Mega have upped their game and before you start judging the sets you should at least buy some of the newer ones and give them a fair chance. This isn't really a rant its just something i would like to say before everyone starts Bashing the sets. Quote

No one's going to start bashing anything right now. This thread is about the Lego sets. Megablocks brand sets should be discussed in the Community forum. So stay on topic, please. Quote

He said, opposed to the films. I would love to have a Blackbird, Mansion(at least a Danger Room set), I know a Mansion set would be a bit too large for a LEGO set. Hopefully next wave we'll see some more X-Men/comic related stuff. Quote

I'd be thinking parts of the Mansion, a X-Men VS Sentinel set and - of course - a Blackbird set to match the Quinjet set in coolness. I think sets based outright on the comics can be a little tougher to do. The comics tend to have few truly well defined places, few well defined and easily recognize able vehicles, so at best you are looking to capture a scene. To get a recognizeable scene that will sell well on the toy shelf it almost has to be either based off a classic cover, or from a really famous story arc. We will see some, as they will be the only way to fill in some holes. But I think the bulk of at least the initial waves will come from whatever movies TLG has the license for. They can easily get a year or twos worth of releases fom the 2 Iron Man movies, Thor, Captain America and the Avengers (less so from Hulk sadly). Maybe fleshed out with a classic Clairemont/Byrne era Xmen Danger Room or Sentinals set and a FF vs Galactus set. Quote
