Good news everyone! FBTB reports that we'll get a look at the finalized Batcave at NYCC next weekend! Also, they'll be giving away Superman minifigs along with the Bats and GL ones.

I don't think so, as I can't see any ???? on the pilot !

I don't really think so either, but it's still a possibility as these are still preliminary and might be lacking printing. After all, Bats has blue pants on.

Woohoo! Pictures :sweet:

Thanks for those, willybob

I'm loving the Superman vs. Lex Luthor set already. Mainly because of the minifigs, but still.

Though I do hope that Lex' suit will be white, instead of the purple it seems to be now.

Other then that, I won't be buying anything so far. I already have enough Batman figs and all the villains that I like so...

And since they're almost completely rehashes.

Mitch

Great, thanks for the pics!

I am not overwhelmed though, three re-releases (Two-Face, Catwoman, Joker) and a slightly altered Batcave - ah well. I will see if I can make a Super-Batcave out of the old and the new one :D Two-Faces outfit is very, um, interesting.

The Superman set is the best of the whole batch, I think. Nevertheless - I will buy all of them.

I can see why people would be upset about some fairly straight re-releases of earlier sets but as I missed out on all of them it doesn't bother me.

I think the first wave is a bit too Batman-centric considering they have all of the DCU to take from but at least they know that Batman always sells.

That is no reason. If this guy can print on all four sides of legs, Lego can too.

-Omi

Well, there's a difference with TLG printing things because TLG has to mass-produce minifigure parts, rather than doing smaller-scale printing. But I agree, if they had a machine for printing on the back of minifig legs they could do it, and nothing's stopping them from acquiring such a machine.

I think it's probably more about costs than anything else-- TLG probably wouldn't invest in a machine for printing the back surface of minifigure legs unless they felt it would open up a lot of opportunities for them, so the limited printing space on the backs of the legs and the already-interrupted surface could very easily be factors in them not making the investment and updating their minifig printing process this way.

At the same time, that's not to say that they'll never take the plunge-- years ago I would have considered side printing on minifigure legs a pipe dream, but now TLG has started to make the commonplace not just in the collectible minifigures but now in mainstream themes. The sky's the limit!

Anyway, as for these sets, I'm marginally impressed. Two-Face's color scheme isn't what I'm used to, and doesn't have the same symbolism as the colors black and white, but it is in line with his first comics appearance-- our first example of TLG drawing directly from the classic comics rather than more modern or mainstream appearances.

The Batmobile and Batwing both feel OK, but I kind of preferred the old ones. It's possible that these early pics just give a bad impression, though, and that the final sets will be as impressive as the 2006 versions or more so.

I wonder how Batman's bat-wing jetpack thing in the Batman vs. Catwoman set is assembled. If it's just a one piece neck accessory, its uses could be limited, but if it's two separate wings, or even a single wing piece attached to a pre-existing neck accessory, then it could be versatile. If the angle of the wings could be changed then it would be excellent in tan or dark tan to depict the wing-packs seen in the Ninjago television series!

In some ways, the Batcave seems excellent, while in others it seems underwhelming. Probably best to wait for better pics of that one. I can't really judge the Superman vs. Lex Luthor set with regards to the characters, as I'm not a big Superman fan, so for all I know having Lex Luthor in a mech could be absurd-- he's supposed to be a corrupt corporate executive, am I right? With that said, I do know enough about the franchise to know he's been depicted many different ways, from being a schemer who rarely gets his hands dirty to stealing forty cakes (and that's terrible). So it's certainly not out of the question to have him in a mech. And anyway, the mech itself looks fairly nice.

In closing, I look forward to better pics of this theme! It has a lot of potential!

WOW! Pictures-- what a great start to the day!

  • 6858 Batman vs. Catwoman: Pretty much a perfect return of Catwoman. Batman with the wings is fine-- but why are his legs blue????
  • 6860 BatCave: Batman, Robin, Poison Ivy & Bane. The figs are great-- but the structure itself is certainly underwhelming. In some ways it actually does remind me of the video game, so that's kind of interesting, I guess.
  • 6862 Superman vs. Lex Luthor: ABSOLUTE HANDS-DOWN WINNER OF THE DC WAVE!!! What a fantastic little set!! The only thing that could possibly make this better was if they included the Rock 1 x 1 Crystal 5 Point (ie the Blacksmith's ore) piece in transgreen to serve as Luthor's kryptonite! That piece actually showed up in Power MIners set 8957 Mine Mech, fwiw. Still, absolutely spectacular, and I'm neither a Superman or a Wonder Woman fan.
  • 6863 Batman vs Joker: The Joker's the clear draw here. Actually surprising how very much like the old 7782 Joker's Aerial Assaultset this one is-- smaller Batwing, and not an overly impressive one at first glance. Who cares-- they could have Batman flying a rocket-powered toilet and this set would still fly off the shelves for the Joker.
  • 6864 Batman vs Two Face: Man, that Two Face does the symmetrical split thing on everything, doesn't he? Even his minions and their truck is split up the middle, this time in an orange/blue color scheme. The Batmobile seems a bit small, and I would've loved to see it as a two-seater, but this will ensure it fits into City scale, which is good. Perhaps my favorite part of this set is the uniformed GCPD officer-- LOVE THE HAT!

Great find on the pics-- great to see how our 2012 will be shaping up!

I just noticed something particularly saddening- the author of the BrickHeroes blog stated that this line is slated for launch in May 2012, not winter 2012 as we've been told. Is this a mixup on the part of the author or is this line getting pushed back? I seriously hope it's a typo :look:

I have a feeling that two face and the joker are based off of their appearances in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, as that is the newest TV incarnation of them. i love batman, hate that particular show, but 'i think that the whole cartoony <insert that tiresome argument> look has come from its basis on Brave and the Bold.

Well for me all of these sets are total win. I missed the majority of the first line, so I've already made up my mind that I will buy every set that's coming from DC and Marvel. I just hope that at some point we get the Penguin and Killer Croc.

I actually have that piece in trans green  Still got it from an old Rock Raiders set. I've always been wanting to use it as Kryptonite, now I finally can

I had a feeling they would make the theme into a video game

Now what did I tell you all about bane and poison ivy coming in a set to represent Batman Forever?

That is most likely wear robins costume us from, which is rather divine to be honest :cry_happy:

It is not a typo, document I have states that this part of the Superheroes range will launch only in May 2012. A good reason could be that the Marvel part of the range will be available in january, which I don't believe so because I would have some intel about that, or that my part of the world is planned as May, a few monthes after US for example.

But I can confirm it is not a typo.

Sorry for the poor english, doing my best

Finally pictures!!

I enjoy the Batman franchise, so I was disappointed that I missed out on the previous wave... and lets face it, only the deepest-pocketed LEGO fans can pick any of them up now. It's almost as though LEGO is deliberately thwarting the monstrous profits people have been making on Ebay off of the Batman sets with these releases.

6858: I'll be honest, there's nothing here that interests me. The small size means it's probably the most affordable set of the bunch, so it's probably a good way to get the figures, but I'll more than likely pass on this.

6860: Unfortunately, this doesn't appear to be a worthy successor of the first Batcave at this point. It seems rather bare-bones and significantly smaller. Another set I'll likely be skipping, unless better pictures change my mind (which I'm not ruling out yet - these pics are pretty poor).

6862: HELL yes, now this is what I was hoping for. This set just has massive appeal to me, from the excellent exclusive figures to the fantastic mech design. The color scheme is great as well, and I get a great Superman vibe from this picture. I don't even like Superman, but this set might very well be on my list for next year.

6863 I'll go out on a limb here to say that this set has promise. The picture isn't great, no, but comparing it to the original version, I'm seeing a lot of improvements. The smaller size of the Batwing suits it much better - it looks much more solid. Joker's chopper isn't anything to write home about, but neither was the other version, and I like this color scheme much better. It reminds me of Batman: TAS, which is always a good thing. I'll have my eye on this set, as it's probably my favorite of the Batman lineup thus far.

6864 This set appears to be a step up from the original Batmobile, but only in the smallest of ways. As a set, it seems much more complete, with a bank (including a nice Police minifigure) and a safe along with the two vehicles. But, this set seems to exhibit the same problems I had with the original Batman wave: small, underdeveloped vehicles without any sensible aesthetics. Two-Face's jeep looks mediocre at best, and the Batmobile's cockpit is way too large. There's just nothing here that's grabbing my attention enough to warrant a purchase.

However, I fully expect that my opinion of these sets will improve with better pictures. Given that most of these sets are completely black, we're not seeing any detail at all. Also, these are probably preliminary shots, so hopefully the models will start looking a little more complete before they hit retail. Right now, I'm cautiously optimistic.

You´ve forgot to mention one huuuuge Improvement: Flick-Fire Missiles all over

Flick Fire missile IS the key feature of LEGO range ahaha, one guy found out it's cool to have missiles, and now they put them everywhere. Expect them in girls range also ;-)

I refuse to comment on those, untill we get some proper pics.

Or I'm afraid I'll say many things that I might actually regret having said.

Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) :classic:

*huh* My, those are almost too similar to their original counterparts. They've even kept some of the villains in the equivalent sets! I sincerely hope that this line lasts as long as the Star Wars series, gets as many varied figures as the Star Wars series, and gets games like the Star Wars series. But I also sincerely hope that it doesn't get the Star Wars treatment where the release the same sets repeatedly!

6858 - Same Catwoman set as last time! I do like those newspapers, but other than that, it does nothing for me.

6860 - At least they changed the figures this time! I like this jail cell, and the two vehicles, but the over all layout is similar to last. At least we get one new figure, Red Robin, who (correct me if I'm wrong) is the only new figure Batman is getting.

6862 - Love it and everything about it! Best set of the year so far.

6863 - I understand that TIE fighters are popular, and that they rerelease sets that people might not of got the first time around for various reasons, but at least the change it. The Joker hasn't moved in three years (but has managed to change suits).

6864 - I do like the bank (finally some civilian scenery!), and Two-Faces new costume and ride. It's the same Batmobile as last time, but I think it's slightly smaller, possibly due to the flick-fire missile being moved.

All in all, I'm only likely to get 6862.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't we also supposed to be getting a Killer Croc, Penguin, Riddler and Harley Quinn? Looks like we're getting another Arkham Asylum (though I'd love something different, like an attack on the GCPD or Wayne Manor).

I'm sad there's no sign of Green Latern...I heard from an inside source he was supposed to be included in one of these sets :cry_sad:

Don't forget that this is a small part of the total range. More will come...

Um, correct. Just Harley and Riddler, no Penguin or Croc.

Well, onto my thoughts I suppose:

6858 Batman vs. Catwoman-I do like the look of this set, even though I was saying earlier I thought we might get a batcycle here, I honestly doubted it, as a motorcycle is the most sensible vehicle for Catwoman. I do like the jet pack (except the wings will probably be black while the rest of Batman is dark blue) and props such as the street light and newspapers, which I do hope will change to something other than The News. It seems Batman actually does have a reason to chase Catwoman as she has a crystal of some sort. I'd think it would have a worse price per piece than the last Catwoman set, (which was almost 10 cents per piece) but I'd get it anyway.

6860 Batcave-I didn't own any of the previous Batman sets and the only figure from the line I own is Killer Croc, (and a custom Mr. Freeze) so I don't know the old Batcave personally. But from the images, I didn't like it all that much, I mean, sure there were some great parts such as the spinning vehicle bay, costume change chamber, and entryway, but I thought that parts of it were completly non-sensical and a waste of space. I mean, a bat-signal? Really? and then there were a couple sections where there was next to nothing, and a huge cell. And really, over all, it just didn't feel so much like a cave to me. It might just be the background, but I do see a cave in this one. I like the use of a bat-signal as some sort of lamp or other ornament, the weapon wall, bat computer, and I prefer this prison cell, to some extent, at least it's more compact. The vehicles are also nice, not that we get a very good view of Batman's, but I believe that is a Batcycle, and even though I can't really imagine Bane actually riding a drill (not that I'm very familiar with the character) I love it, it's zany and honestly, made me laugh. I'm not disappointed with the choice of figures (though I do hope Red Robin has a double face because I don't like that expression) I would of like to see Alfred and another minifigure. I mean at either $60 or $70 (I can't remeber which) I'd like to have more than four minifigures, is that too much to ask?

6862 Superman vs. Lex Luthor- No new cake pieces? :cry_sad: Okay, of course I'm not serious. If you saw my predictions after rumors came out, this was the only set I was spot on with, $20, Superman, Wonderwoman, and Lex Luthor in a mech. I do like the look of this set, but I can't look at it too much because I'm tempted and probably can't get it, I'll have enough on my hands with just Batman. If I have an extra $20 after Batman, I'll be sure to pick this up.

6863 Batman vs. The Joker- No Harley? No buy. Okay, that's not true, I'll get it anyway. The smaller versions of the Batwing and Helicopter do seem just as good, if not better, than their previous renditions. Joker's helicopter is akward and blocky, (especially those purple pieces in the back) but It's actually more stream-lined than the original, sadly. The batwing, doesn't seem too much improved, but I do like the smaller size and what I can see of the back. I wonder if LEGO would think to use that bat-wing tip introduced with the 2006 line for the wings?

6864 Batman vs. Double Two-Face- Anybody notice something purply about the villains? I mean, Catwoman has purple lipstick and lines on her suit, Lex Luthor's wearing a purple suit of some sort, The Joker's wearing purple (naturally), and we have yet to see a finalized Bane. To me that means that Ivy is the only one we know of not to be wearing purple. Well, Two-Face doesn't disappoint in that sense, but really? I would rather not critisize the people who chose the colorsheme for the original Two-Face, but I will question it because purple and orange are not opposites on the color wheel, and therefore do not fit the idea of conflicting personalities, to me. Anyway, Two-Face's henchmen seem to have different faces (from Joker's henchman too!) which is nice, and with time I might get use to the colorscheme, but the orange half looks too much like a prison jumpsuit. The police officer is nice, it seems he has printing on his hat, and his face seems to have a grey mustache and glasses, could it be James Gordon? The downsized batmobile is nice, but now it looks to fat and not long enough, but that could improve. I applaud the use of a newer cockpit piece and my biggest problem is probably the bat-wing tips (which I think they should of used on the Batwing) are up too high. I like the bank, but already have one for my City, so this probably means that it will end up as part of the Batman display I'm planning for a shelf (unlike Catwoman's extras). The bank seems to have a removable window, which is a nice function.

I'm somewhat disappointed that they chose to just redesign some of the sets (particualarly 6863 and 6864) as they don't give us newer vehicles for the characters, just upgraded ones. Anyway, I would get them all if I could, but I'll have to draw the line somewhere with these, and that will probably just be Superman (and all Marvel). After these pictures, I'm left wondering where Harley and Riddler are though, I would hope for another Arkham Asylum or the Hall of Justice or something of that sort where LEGO could sneak Green Lantern in too, because why release an action figure, but not a minifigure?

Lex Luthor has changed a bit over the years. Back in the olden days, he was more of a "mad scientist / super genius" type. In recent years (most notably in the Superman: The Animated Series), he's been portrayed as a corrupt, wealthy, ambitious business tycoon. The Lego set is a bit of a throwback to his earlier incarnations.

My thoughts on the sets echo what others have said. I have all the original sets, so these all seem like boring repeats to me, excpet for the Superman set. Hopefully with the Marvel wave, and with subsequent DC waves, TLC will break free of its Batman obsession, and start featuring some other characters.

Yay, pictures! :classic:

The Catwoman, Joker and "Double-Face" (is that even a character?) sets are basically smaller remakes of the originals. That's great in my case, as I missed all previous sets.

However, "Double-Face" and truck is really odd. I preferred the original Two-Face. The others are okay, even if they are smaller.

Lex Luthor is pretty cool. I would have preferred that green armour thing over a generic black suit, but otherwise fine.

Finally, the Batcave seems much smaller than the original, but is okay. More figures and building parts would have been nice.

Anyway, great to see some pictures. There will probably be more sets in this wave, and I hope we'll see more rereleases of other characters.
