Vindicare Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 So wait, sorry, but are these official? Because the Ironman helm and the Captain America stickered body threw me off.. Also, as someone said, the fact that TLC managed to get Marvel and DC together is amazing. I REALLY want a Deadpool minifig now. Aswell, Ironman's helm is so not preportional to his body. It's huge. Marvel are still prelims, unlike DC. Cap'n is like that just to show what he will look like. I too am wanting Deadpool now. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 It's cool seeing the minifigs and all, but I also hope we get a first look at the DC January sets as well. That will be the main selling point on whether I get any of these or not. Quote

Aha, thanks. :) Yeah I'd love a Deadpool minifig. :D How will they collab these as sets though? Perhaps like a world's collide thing? Quote
Phillip Thorne Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Hmm. The availability of licensed official LEGO superhero figs will certainly change the dynamics whenever LUGs exhibit at comic book shows. When wide-eyed visitors ask "Can I buy that?" we'll be able to say "Yes" instead of "If you acted five years ago," or "Yes, but it's not a LEGO product," or "I can post the plans for you to build your own." I'm speaking from my own experience as part of DelVaLUG and PennLUG -- we've done collaborative layouts at the Wizard World Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA) expo on three occasions. There existed official Batman and Spider-Man figs and sets we could include (and/or modify), of course, but we also created original MOCs (Hall of Justice, Baxter Building, Wayne Manor, etc.) and minifig customs (inkjet torso decals, mostly). This summer I architected most of the display, with individual tableaux (bigger than vignettes) inspired by the 2011 X-Men, Thor, and Green Lantern movies (also Harry Potter, but not Captain America or Cowboys and Aliens). FWIW: Photos from 2011, 2008, and 2007. It's interesting to see TLG's interpretation of Hal Jordan-2011 vs. mine (sorry, no closeups among any of the photos I've got handy). Also, one of my specializations is what I call "metafigs" -- brick-built minifig-scale figures for when a minifig doesn't have the right size, shape, or color blocking (Green Lantern Corps aliens, the Hulk, the Thing, Cyborg from the animated Teen Titans, etc.). BrickJournal might regularly carry plans for Miniland-scale figs, but TLG avoids marketing such things to kids (I presume) because they can't withstand rough play. On a different point, I'm growing a bit dismayed by the amount of effort TLG is devoting to licensed properties. How many are currently active? Cars 2, Harry Potter, Pirates, SpongeBob, Star Wars. I work with kids at conventions, so I know they love minifigs; but they often focus on them to the exclusion of building with the bricks. You're not gaining manual dexterity and developing your engineering sensibilities, guys! I'm invested in thinking of LEGO bricks as a product thta encourages imagination, so I'd be upset if it devolved into just another action figure line. Quote
Bobskink Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 How is it 0% lego? What would make it lego for you? Are the trolls from the castle line Lego? The Troll from early HP line? The Lego Wampa. The bigger rock monsters? Just my opion... When I would see that figure outside of it'l Lego context, I wouldn't recognize it as lego (for now). The others you mention aren't that Legoish either, but stil, they had that Legoish look like the horses for example. There are simply no minifigure parts in it.I think the solution Minimates made for the Hulk was mush better for example. Quote

Well, it's pretty likely that a couple of the existing licensed lines will be discontinued by the time Super Heroes comes out: Cars 2 will likely be replaced with Brave sets, and Harry Potter might not be around much longer - we might see another year's worth of sets, but interest will drop off some now that the final film has hit theatres. Pirates of the Caribbean could go either way; other than the Black Pearl, I haven't read about anything new coming out, but there are four films' worth of material to mine. There are plenty of other active non-licensed themes, as well as a couple new ones due next year, so I highly doubt the focus on creativity is in danger of eroding anytime soon. Quote
Ro87n Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) Yes no more hand painted figues, no longer need to mold ourselfs we got our very own Marvel and DC LEGO Minifigures. Sweet heavens my prayings are been heard :3 Edited July 21, 2011 by Ro87n Quote
PirateMatt Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) I can't wait for Deadpool! Yesterday I watched Wolverine vs Hulk and I laughed so hard at the Deadpool. Ironman just looks silly, like Ki-Adi Mundi wears the suit. Thor is also great, I hope that he will come out with his helmet. It wouhld be cool that LEGO makes Venom,Kilowog and Fantasic Four minfigures. Edited July 21, 2011 by PirateMatt Quote
Jargo Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I'm going to hold off making any judgements until I see the sets these come in and proper studio photography. I'm intrigued and interested but it's far too early to be getting excited. It is cool that Batman is back though. Quote
Bricknave Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I think TLG has made an excellent decision in doing this, because the more license deals they make, the more popularity they gain. I'm pretty stoked to see the Green Lantern Minifigure. I'm a Green Lantern fan because of his imagination-based power. I hope there is a whole Green Lantern bucket filled with basic bricks cast in trans-green! That would be perfect for building light-constructs. Quote
Omicron Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 TLG had the Spider Man license way before Megabloks Except it wasn't Spiderman. It was Sony Pictures. Note how the Spiderman sets were based on the movies and nothing else. Mega Bloks had more free reign. -Omi Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 So far, theres going to be a batcave, and some sets will be based on "Dark Knight Rising" . Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Except it wasn't Spiderman. It was Sony Pictures. Note how the Spiderman sets were based on the movies and nothing else. 'The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection will spotlight three Marvel franchises – Marvel’s The Avengers movie, and X-Men and Spider-Man classic characters. The LEGO Marvel’s The Avengers movie line brings such ever popular Marvel characters as Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki and Black Widow to LEGO minifigure form. The LEGO X-Men collection includes minifigure comic versions of Wolverine, Magneto, Nick Fury and Deadpool, while the LEGO Spider-Man sets offer minifigure comic versions of Spider-Man, and Doctor Octopus.' Oh, yes you do read right as well......X-men ! This is not a single theme but a whole new Lego product grouping (i.e. city, kingdoms, Star Wars)....it's more than a License extension ! Brick On ! Studs Not On Top Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Superheroes!! I've been waiting for this! Let's hope they're being sold like the Collectable Minifigures. Quote
vexorian Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) But now these rival companies have the same liscenses at the same time. Are you sure about this? I really doubt mega will still have the license in 2012 now that TLG bought the rights for that year. Mega is also seemingly moving on to other licenses, like blizzard. I have some of these Mega Bloks (or even Minimates) figures, and as mush as I'm a Lego fan, I dare to say they look really good. Some (Irom-Man) even better than the upcoming Lego verions and that Hulk figure is 0% Lego. (I am a Spiderman fan, so that is why I have some Mega Bloks) Even the current preliminary, obviously undone. LEGO Iron man is much better than the mega one imho. At least it looks like a minifig. I"m also interested in the price differeces with Mega Bloks. You get what you paid for. Small copies of action figures with feet that fit into studs are way easier to design than minifigures that follow a trademark style and are actually worth paying for. ^^ Also, mega keeps promising that the plastic quality is improving, but I am not seeing it. They are still above a lot of clones, but they aren't that good. And it is not like LEGO is nowadays such a hard standard to beat, their piece quality has also decreased since the 90s. I just don't have a Lego feeling with these new themes and I hope they don't take the place of old clasic themes. The only theme at risk would be HF and apparently TLG has said they don't intend discontinuing it. Except it wasn't spiderman, it was sony That is informative. My point though was just that TLG had the idea of super hero licenses way before mega , so claiming that they are stealing mega's idea does not make much sense. Edited July 22, 2011 by vexorian Quote

djmangunz Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 All I want is Nick Fury and the Helicarrier. Is that too much to ask? Oh, and some sharks with frickin laser beams attached to their heads. No? Quote
Omicron Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 My point is that TLG had the idea of super hero licenses way before mega , so claiming that they are stealing mega's idea does not make much sense. All depends on how you really look at it. Lego had Spiderman first, but Mega had Marvel first and had Hulk, Iron Man, Xmen, and Spiderman. -Omi Quote
22kane Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 The fact that I'll be able to get a Joker minifigure for a reasonable price excites me very much. I missed out on the last Batman Lego series and I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for any of it on eBay. I can't wait until this stuff hits the shelves. Not impressed by the larger figures. They look a bit silly. And the hulk minifigure??? It doesn't even look like Lego. I hope they do something different with that. Quote

A whole bucket would probably be too much to ask for, but it's a safe bet we'll get lots of trans-green with the Green Lantern sets; it's the perfect opportunity for brick-built weapons and such. pikafunk Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) hmmm why am i not excited......... especially iron man. you guys are absolutely right. these are movie tie in minifigs, not marvel/ dc comic minifigs. at least the old batman minifigs had much more similarity. I'm not a hardcore fan of Marvel or DC either, but this is really great. Quote
jamie75 Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) I'm glad to see they went with a big Hulk like the Wampa or Hagrid! I hope Killer Croc and Bane get the same treatment too. Maybe, and this is a big maybe, Thing, Thanos and Darkseid as larger minifigs! Killer Croc and Bane were huge in Batman: Arkham Asylam. As for X-Men, I hope for a brick-built Sentinel. That would be great, along with a Danger Room. Professor X will cool with his wheelchair. Does Lego make a wheelchair? That would be a new element, or several! I know he has a hover chair too, but, he has been shown in comics and in the movies in a regular, old-fashion, non-hovering chair. Which is cooler?! Juggernaut would be great to see too!! I do hope for a Fantastic Four series later too. Maybe a Trans-Clear Invisible Women, a Trans Red-Orange Human Torch, larger Thing, and how would they do Mr. Fantastic, stretchy Lego?? Brick-built Galactus too?! Chrome Silver Surfer and board! I'm sure, some or all, of this won't happen, but, lets hope for a comic series that lasts as long as the Star Wars line. The longer it goes the more we will see! Jamie Edited July 25, 2011 by jamie75 Quote
freshoreste Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Marvel is based on Avengers Movie, X-Men Comic, Spider-Man Comic... that is all for now. DC is based on All DC Comics... if you think its movie costume well look again DC has just changed many of DC's costumes in comics which many are movie like. ALL DC Costumes & stories will change in September in Comics. Thats why these are ALL just samples and NOT the finished product. Quote
