SoupOrFishOil Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 This has been up for a couple days, but Amazon.fr has listed the piece numbers for all the DC and Ultrabuild sets and most of the Marvel. They seem to be a pretty good deal, for American prices at least, assuming that Barnes & Nobles weren't below retail, which I don't think they are, they seem pretty realistic. Anyway: DC Universe 6858 Batman vs. Catwoman Price: $11.99 Piece Count: 89 6860 The Batcave Price: $69.99 Piece Count: 690 6862 Superman vs. Lex Luthor Price: $19.99 Piece Count: 207 6863 Batman vs. The Joker Price: $29.99 Piece Count: 278 6864 Batman vs. Two-Face Price: $49.99 Piece Count: 531 I don't know if we ever got the exact prices for Marvel, but I'm matching them to the DC ones because I imagine LEGO would want to keep the themes fairly equal. If I messed the prices up and we do have them, please let me know, because there is something strange about the prices of 6866 and 6867.... Marvel 6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle Price: $11.99 Piece Count: Not Available on Amazon.fr 6866 Wolverine Chopper Showdown Price: $19.99 Piece Count: 201 6867 Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape Price: $29.99 Piece Count: 181 6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout Price: $49.99 Piece Count: 389 6867 Quinjet Aerial Battle Price: $69.99 Piece Count: 735 Again, we I don't think we ever got exact prices for the three Marvel sets, so I'm matching them to the DC ones. Ultrabuild 4526 Batman Price: $14.99 Piece Count: 40 4527 The Joker Price: $14.99 Piece Count: 57 4528 Green Lantern Price: $14.99 Piece Count: 38 4529 Iron Man Price: $14.99 Piece Count: 44 4530 Hulk Price: $14.99 Piece Count: 39 4597 Captain America Price: $14.99 Piece Count: 44 Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Thanks for the info. If those are true, then that's quite a diverse spread as far as price-per-part ratios go. Anywhere from below $.10 right up to almost $.17! Quote
brickswindler Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) 6866 and 6867 should be the same price. In Australia they are both priced at $50 (from the Hobbyco website) so I'm assuming that they will both be $25 in the US as US prices are roughly half the Australian price in most cases. Oky Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I know those prices are criminally high, but no need to blame brickswindler for it. (Next time use the report button). Quote
tj19941994 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I honestly cannot believe that Americans find these prices high!!! If these were the Aussie prices I would be crying with joy right now! They are so cheap for a licensed theme!!! Especially after POTC Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Believe it. We find everything from Lego high in price. And then we buy it anyway. Quote

I really think those prices are fair, especially compared to some other licenses and other countries. Quote

Really, strange, that usually only happens with themes that recieve about this many sets in ONE wave, like Star Wars and Ninjago. However, I only made them to match the prices of the DC sets and I'm not promising anything, but think about it-do you think DC would be happy if Marvel sets were more popular (or vice versa). It is extraordinary that they could get the two together for a theme (even though I think it was less of a matter of what they wanted and more what WB and Disney wanted). So unless the exclusives others and I have predicted, a Marvel set with Spider-man and Doc Ock, and a DC set with Harley Quinn and The Riddler, are priced differently than each other and similarly to a set from their own subtheme, I don't see it happening, but stranger things have happened, like this theme for example. Also, has anyone tried e-mailing Lego about when the DC wave is "officially" scheduled to come out around the world (specifically the US)? Quote

J_Bro83 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I have my fingers crossed that we'll see batman sets before Christmas but the more I harrass my local Lego retail store they're steering me more toward a March release. I'm hoping, if that's the case, Lego won't sell them directly until later but TrU will still get them out in '11. Quote
surrideo Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 March from a marketing point of view would make a lot of sense. Its a new line and all the new Dino/Ninjago/city lines etc will be out in late 2011/Jan. If I were DC/Marvel I would want my product to sit out from the other lines. In saying that if there is to be a Batman film tie in wave that would be Summer so you'd want them out around the time Pirates of The Caribbean came out this year and you'd want to sell the first wave a bit before that. Be great to see reviews on here before christmas for the first wave DC sets but I just can't see the benefit to Lego or DC with so much of their own product out there already for christmas Quote
Vindice Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 March may make some sense for some but not for TLG. They will want big sets out as close to the festive shopping period as possible. Disney and WB may have some say but lets remember this is a license and once TLG have it they will be making most of the decisions. Unless the license fee TLG paid is very nominal (possible) WB and Disney will probably not have a great deal of input. Quote

I'd agree from the point of view of lego, but if the Superheroes sets were released now they'd be competing with all the new lego lines, the big existing ones (Alien Conquest etc)plus a good chance Star Wars 2012, the existing Cars and Pirates lines. You need to stagger your unique Intellectual property licences or you'll flood the market and that helps no one. Not in a market where there really is little money. I can't see behemoths like Time Warner or Disney having minimal input either. How much input does George Lucas have in the Star Wars line? Quote
Vindice Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Well isnt it standard that most themes including licenses come out at the same time? I thought that was the general pattern with most LEGO. I think Lucas has some considerable input with the SW range but that particular theme is treated very differently from all others because it's more a permanent fixture than almost any other theme. I don't think WB had much input with HP. Companies that generally partake in licensing or branding agreements have very little input once they have "leased" their name. Quote

I see you are in the UK, like myself. Unfortunately for us I cant't see any of the new lines reaching us before christmas George Lucas above anyone else in the world had the foresight to retain all the rights to merchandising to his intellectual property with very little fiscal dilution. I know techniques have changed and improved but a look at the quality of Star Wars sets is a lot higher than when they first came out.. Less pieces maybe, but better. Harry Potter lego I feel never got the care and attention it needed. Its hard to replicate the imagery from the films and especially the books but in my opinion its never been qute properly realised. JK Rowling like many others signed a deal with Warner Brothers that rewarded her well but her input was definitely more in consultation than approval. I have worked in sportswear merchandising and in that line of work you are right sometimes the image /license/brand is leased and little is done to monitor its usage. Marvel and DC(and in the bigger picture WB and Disney) would be wary, like many large corporations these days of taking your intellectual property for granted. Image is all and if you are trying to sell a toy, get people into the cinema or whatever. Marketing needs to be tight and a slow drip of superheroes line before christmas would be terrible. We aren't dealing with a high end electrical product like an iphone 4s or PS4/XBOX720 but you still need to make it highly desirable to as many people as humanly possible. I whole heartedly apologise for an overly wordy response I do want these sets asap btw........... Quote
