Just to let you all know, the larger DC sets will also contain a fantastic Lego/DC comic book. For the UK market Jan is the release of the DC Line and Mar/April for the Marvel range.

Hopefully some cardboard in with the instructions and stickers then

Unlikely in the smaller sets. I would count my lucky stars if I got a cardboard sheet in a $30 set, and few of the sets in this line so far are over that price. I would be happy if all the sets came with cardboard, but in my eyes, it's not gonna happen. :def_shrug:

It happened with PotC why shouldn't it happen here?

Some information has come to my knowledge that retailers in Oz can only place ONE order for the January release of DC sets. Tried to get more info but was unable to.

So when you see it next year, buy it as soon as you can or miss out !

Really, strange, that usually only happens with themes that recieve about this many sets in ONE wave, like Star Wars and Ninjago. However, I only made them to match the prices of the DC sets and I'm not promising anything, but think about it-do you think DC would be happy if Marvel sets were more popular (or vice versa). It is extraordinary that they could get the two together for a theme (even though I think it was less of a matter of what they wanted and more what WB and Disney wanted). So unless the exclusives others and I have predicted, a Marvel set with Spider-man and Doc Ock, and a DC set with Harley Quinn and The Riddler, are priced differently than each other and similarly to a set from their own subtheme, I don't see it happening, but stranger things have happened, like this theme for example.

:classic:

I wonder if the missing 6859 and 6861 sets are the rumored Harley Quinn & Riddler/Green Lantern sets we've been speculating about. :oh3:

I've done some research on the possibility of another store exclusive set to include Harley and Riddler (LEGO never said antything about a Green Lantern set though, but I see no reason why he couldn't team up with Batman in this one), and I came up with this: First, in Australia, the prices for two Marvel sets are the same (the X-men/Loki ones). When we first recieved the pricing information for the DC sets from B&N, they all added up to about $227 (including the three Ultrabuild action figures). As most of us know, the official LEGO Super Heroes site claimed "an estimated retail value of $250". My point is that there's about another $20 in there, maybe even as much as $70 depending on whether or not LEGO considers the three ultrabuilds as part of the "DC Universe Collection", which I doubt because they are of a different toy range. Even though I see it costing as much as $70 (because that would be a good price point for Arkham Asylum), I could see it costing only $20 or $30 because of the (unfair) Australian prices for the two Marvel sets translating roughly to that price (in LEGO's reaoning) mentioned earlier.

Still hoping for a decent sized Arkham though, and if you do the math, you might be able to come up with a price point for the Spider-man set, assuming that LEGO will do their best to keep the DC and Marvel ranges equal, because again, it's amazing that they could get WB and Disney together for the same theme, and I'm sure that if they'd want the license up for renewal, they'd do the best they could to keep one from 1-uping the other.

March from a marketing point of view would make a lot of sense. Its a new line and all the new Dino/Ninjago/city lines etc will be out in late 2011/Jan. If I were DC/Marvel I would want my product to sit out from the other lines.

In saying that if there is to be a Batman film tie in wave that would be Summer so you'd want them out around the time Pirates of The Caribbean came out this year and you'd want to sell the first wave a bit before that.

Be great to see reviews on here before christmas for the first wave DC sets but I just can't see the benefit to Lego or DC with so much of their own product out there already for christmas

You are thinking too much about DC sets and not enough about Marvel. Think about this; both the Avengers and Dark Knight Rises movies come out in the Summer at roughly the same time (I think). Now, we know for certain that the DC sets are going to be released first, right? So, if you post-pone the DC sets until the time we first heard about Marvel sets being released and push those even further back to the summertime where there are supposedly going to be a "collection of play-things centered around TDKR", you would push those back until October. Why doesn't that make sense? Because LEGO generally like to release sets based on a movie a few months before it's released (such as Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, PotC, etc.). So, even though the supposed TDKR sets would come out at roughly the same time as the movie, there would already be Batman sets out (we'd already be getting Batman, Bane, and Catwoman characters, not movie versions, but still them) and you'd be trading a realistic release date for Avengers sets to a slightly less realistic one. And in the case of TDKR, a slightly less realistic release date for an October-ish one which makes almost no sense at all from a marketing stand point, seeing as excitement for the movie would of died down by then.

And I'm pretty sure LEGO is not trying to get their product out there for Christmas, because when that is their goal, they aim for an October/November release.

This seems familiar.............are they trying to arrange things to that the grey market is the only place you can get Batman Lego??

Test release type thing perhaps? See how one order sells then allow a restock for March or so if the first order was successful?

That's what my source said he thought too, but I was told long term theme.....but how many DC and Marvel characters - even just the mainstream ones are there eh ?

Come January I'm going to need a lot of money !

Will there be any set that will include black batman minifig like that exclusive one, or will be only grey and blue one?

i would really like to get black batman...

You can probably get one in TDKR sets that'll come out Spring/Summer. If the batman minifigure you're interested in is anything like the promo Superman, it will be even better than the exclusive figure. For example, the Supes in the preliminary set pic has red boots, while the exclusive(NYCC) does not.

Where this Arkham Asylum set story comes from ? I mean if it comes from some real source and not speculation....

Hey, Willybob,

First, thanks for breaking the news on a number of Lego Super Hero tidbits - much appreciated.

Second, to answer your question, I don't think the idea of Arkham as a set comes from anywhere except speculation.

However, AA as a new set is logical based on:

1. TLG previously made an Arkham set, and a lot of the preliminary pics we've seen are based on previous Batman sets.

2. idea that, along with maybe a GCPD set, the Asylum is the most popular Batman location next to the batcave/Wayne Manor, thanks in large part due to the "Arkham ..." video games.

3. a lot of the sets revealed are Batman-based.

4. Because Batman sells, WB would put pressure on TLG to create another Batman-themed set, one that incorporates the other characters we've seen via the exclusives and press release - ie: GL, Harley Quinn, and Riddler (hopefully with a green bowler hat, like Penguin's custom minifigure).

Regards,

Phantasm

Ok,

My two cents about this :

The Avengers Movie is scheduled on Late April/May 2012. Marvel Range will come out for the movie as it is confirmed by LEGO that this part will be based on the movie itself :

Statement from LEGO :

The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection's initial construction sets, minifigures and buildable characters are scheduled to launch in May of 2012

and

...The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection will spotlight three Marvel franchises – Marvel’s The Avengers movie....

Regarding DC range, January is officially announced by LEGO in the press statement. It says that it is a revamp of the 2006/2008 range or something similar.

Statement from LEGO :

...The company will revisit their previous successful collections like LEGO BATMAN™ that also inspired the best-selling LEGO BATMAN: The Videogame...

Batman TDKR is scheduled for July 2012. I don't think that there will be any TDKR sets at all , but instead we will see a second wave of DC sets based on comics and following the release of LEGO Batman 2 Videogame, which I suppose will be more like a sequel to the first opus, than a Dark Knight version.

Black Batman does not mean TDKR Batman, Batman was already black in the past (7781, 7783 & 7785), then grey, then grey and blue, then grey and black....

About Green Lantern, I think he will be in the game, and so we will see him in a set together with some other justice league characters like Batman, Superman, etc....

I'm afraid that DC and Marvel are on two different levels here : DC on comics/video game - Marvel on Avengers movie, and maybe a video game

I think that LEGO will use benefit of TDKR but will not produce anything related to it.

Maybe I am wrong after all, just my 2 cents....

You may be correct about no sets based on TDKR, but I'm not sure what you mean by the 'two different levels' of DC and Marvel. I believe both DC and Marvel will be in the LEGO Super Heroes video game, and the Marvel sets are not exclusively based on the Avengers film or Marvel Universe films. As we know, there will be a few X-Men and Spiderman sets that are based on the comic iterations of those characters, not the film ones (despite there being a new Spiderman film).

That's true.

I'm still hoping that TLG will use the SDCC exclusive Batman in a new Tumbler batmobile set. It was this line in the other press release that made me think it was possible (source: http://www.fbtb.net/2011/07/19/lego-gets-full-dc-comics-license/ )

"WB and Lego had already been producing toys and videogames around the Batman franchise, and will launch a new set of playthings around next summer’s 'The Dark Knight Rises' through the Lego Batman collection."

Its really hard to tell from the leaked images but in the catwoman set its blue cowl and blue "tights" and the Batcave set black cowl grey "tights"

You could spend forever squinting at it but Im wondering if its a black torso you can see in the Two face set?. Just cant tell with the Joker set

Acutally this was an article from variety that was extrapolated from the official press statement which never mentionned TDKR

It would be strange if there were no sets based on TDKR, wouldn't make any sense to miss out on a boat like that from a marketing point of view.

I heard the Dark Knight was a little too "dark" for Lego's taste. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see any TDKR since the new Nolan movies are grittier. Don't get me wrong, I love these movies and I want some TDKR sets but even the 4 sets that came out when Dark Knight was out, were 3 "fluff sets" (though I'd buy another 7886 if I had the chance  ) and The Tumbler.

Guys you are way out on this. There IS GOING TO BE TDKR sets released by Lego in June. There has already been toy trade advertising for the new Batman film with the Lego logo attached next to next to Mattel and Rubies. Also our Lego rep has not stopped going on about it for months. lol Our orders go in next month.

I read somewhere that the DC sets will be released in January and Marvel's in May. Can someone confirm this?

Confirmed. you can check out the press releases on Lego.com

Good eye! If I zoom in, it looks black to me. Hopefully it's the SDCC torso print for those of us that still need that figure.

Any pics or press releases? I know there's a press release out about Mattel doing toys for TDKR and the new Superman movie, but I couldn't find anything similar for Lego.
