dr jones Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Are the cape and cowl separate entities? Would they not normally be attached? When not made of lego Indeed, that is how I think of it as well. But I seem to have started a pretty big discussion, I hope nobody's angry on me for that? I know sombbody said, there's always the aftermarket, but sadly, that's not an option for me. And I think there are a lot of people, who, like me don't have the option, or the money, to spend on a cape on the aftermarket. Quote

Your point has provided decent discussion and wholly valid imo with the title of the topic I'm not one for the aftermarket either as it happens Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) Are the cape and cowl separate entities? Would they not normally be attached? When not made of lego They may normally be attached, but so what? That doesn't mean that it has to be inlcuded. Like you said, this is LEGO, they are seperate. I do not think of the cowl as one in the same with the cape (even though they are connected), the cowl is more memorable and a symbol of the Batman franchise wheras Superman and Thor, just to name the LEGO Super Heroes, also have capes. Oky Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Are the cape and cowl separate entities? Would they not normally be attached? When not made of lego No, I don't think so. I remember several instances from cartoons where Batman took off his cape or his cowl without taking off the other. But I seem to have started a pretty big discussion, I hope nobody's angry on me for that? I kinda am. I mean, you guys are making a really big deal over a cape. If you want a cape so badly and don't want to buy one separately, why don't you just make one yourself? Besides, there is a good chance that we might get the blue batman as a magnet or keychain from which you could use the cape for your Catwoman Chase Batman. Quote
Velika314 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) Keep hoping. The current prices are ridiculous, especially considering that it is a cape. -Omi That doesn't sound good. I haven't checked recently so I wouldn't know. It seems unlike TLG to tease buyers with a special version of a minifigure and hope that people spend extra money to get the normal version. It doesn't seem like too much effort for TLG to add a cloth cape to our hooded hero. I for one would pay a little extra to get a cloth cape in the set. It would still be cheaper then the alternative. I know it's silly, but I always feel when I modify Lego bits they are substandard to the real deal. I feel bad when I'm sanding down a piece, almost like I'm destroying it (even when the end result is good). Of course, I don't make too many custom pieces. Edited November 26, 2011 by Velika314 Quote
surrideo Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Total snob I may be, but I won't be making a cape for my kids, thats what I pay lego for To turn the arguement on its head, who intends to buy the Batcave set and feels aggrieved that there is no jetpack included? Quote

I don't like customizing either, but no one said anything about modifying Lego pieces. Just cut a cape out of paper. To turn the arguement on its head, who intends to buy the Batcave set and feels aggrieved that there is no jetpack included? I do. The jetpack and the newspaper tiles are the only things I'm interested in in the Catwoman set, so if the jetpack was included in the Batcave, the decision not to buy the City Chase would be much easier. Good, then I'm not the only one who doesn't like customization. Total snob I may be, but I won't be making a cape for my kids, thats what I pay lego for I agree, Lego should provide the pieces themselves to complete their figure. TLG is smart, I'm sure they'll find someway of getting us the right cape. Edited November 26, 2011 by Velika314 Quote
Omicron Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Are the cape and cowl separate entities? Would they not normally be attached? When not made of lego Yes. In the movies, animated series, and even the comics they are shown to be. The cowl is made from a different material unlike the cape. -Omi Quote
charlieboy Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I am sure most of you know but it is possible to buy ready made minifig sized capes from Ebay- CLICK ME! I realise the vast majority of you will want genuine Lego items but the chap I have linked to above makes some really good quality stuff. I've bought quite a few capes from him, the latest being three dementor capes and five regular capes of various colours. For the prices he charges you wont find better and i'd even go so far as to say they rival Lego's own! Quote

just2good Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 What's there for me to say? Ooooh, I love the jacket! The painted clown face is also looks awesome. Quote
Piranha Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) there is another simple solution, call up TLG customer service say you are disappointed that the set didn't have a cape (assuming it doesn't) and ask if you can order and pay for one direct from them. They are always friendly and helpful and often have better prices than the aftermarket. Although it might count as a licensed product in that case they won't let you. ScaryScarecrow Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Well now that I have seen good pictures of the sets, I can post my opinions: Catwoman Catcylcle City: A good starter set. The street corner looks like it should be useful for making a good Gotham, and the new Catcycle is much better than the last one in my opinion. I own the old set (Family owned collectible store ftw), so I will have to compare the two later. Though, it is kinda weird how they give Catwoman the female minifig "curves" even though you can't really tell it apart from the Catsuit. Jetpack Batman is nifty, but it would be best if he came with a cape. Superman vs. Power Armor Lex Luthor: One of my favorites. The mech reminds me of the Magma Mech from Power Miners, but the arms have been changed to be more battle mech like and the cockpit having a different design. Lex is somewhat boring, but Wonder Woman and Superman make up for it with there new parts. Wonder Woman is the best, but the only thing I can think of doing with her is making one of those Uncle Sam Girls (There is probably an actual term or word for that I cannot think of at the moment), we just need a patriotic top hat. Superman could be one of those kids in Pajamas that you see in the movies. Batwing Battle: Well, in comparison to the earlier version, this set is a JOKEr. Haha. I crack myself up. The new "Jokecopter" is smaller and uglier than the old one, but at least the rope is actually attached this time. The new goon and Joker are beautiful, however. The Batwing is more "compact", maybe so that it will fit better in the Batcave? The wings this time seem to fold up and down, so it probably is more playable. I like the smaller Batwing, but not the smaller Jokecopter, but with the small size, they probably won't break as easily and won't take up so much space to display. Two Face Chase: I can't tell if I like this one or the old one better, I better FLIP A COIN. Ha ha. But seriously, the new Two-Face is good, but I'd rather have it so that he had hair that was like, the standard male hair cut in half, instead of the old hair. He has a printed coin, which is cool too. Harvey's new car is cool, though I prefer the old one. The new Batmobile is nice, better built for city going and SNOTier than the old one. The bank is neat, too. Batcave: I have to admit, I hated this set, being the BANE for my excitement, but I admit, it's GROWING ON ME. Dohohoho. Anyway, I don't understand the dinosaurs. It looks really kiddy, but holy new robin batman, this set became great for it's campiness and new Bruce Wayne. Though the lack of Alfred is disapointing. My wishlist for the next wave: -Wayne Manor -Azrael (Jean-Paul Valley version) vs. Clayface -Red Hood vs. Mr. Freeze -Batman (Terry Mcginnis) vs. Shriek -Supergirl vs. Darkseid -Aquaman vs. Black Manta -Fortress of Solitude -Green Lantern vs. Solomon Grundy Quote
