That is Superman's face with a white stripe and no wrinkles around the eyes and chin. I hate it too. :hmpf_bad:

*huh* Seriously?! It's not so notable with the cowl on I guess, but that is actually just downright stupid! I mean, the Lego Supes looks perfect, but when you realise that he has the same face as Batman it cannot be unseen. :hmpf_bad:

I suppose that's what they would say...but we now it was to cheapen designing a new face.

Kind of like how people think that the Guard's has Bruce Wayne's old face as a nod to the previous Batman theme. I think they decided to reuse a face and then decided on that one so we'd think that.

So I purchased the Superman set while perusing Target, and by jolly it is awesome. It's been awhile since I even bought a Lego set for myself, so I really enjoyed building it, but I mainly bought it for Supes and Wonder Woman as I like figs (being a minifig customizor myself). They look great together with my custom Green Lantern, and I even made an Aquaman to go along with them. Now to find my Batman...

With thousands of characters in each universe it would be great to see several characters released as blind bagged figures.

While Lego has been good with character selection in the Star Wars sets, I wonder what is on the radar for DC.

Will we get Metamorpho?, the Flash Rogues?, what about the Legion?

No on all of those, I have never heard of any of them. so i guess they wont be well known/popular enough for lego to bother.

I think, if we do get bagged figures or similar, they will be well-known DC heroes & villains, such as Nightwing, Batgirl, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Kid Flash, Red Hood, Hush, Mr Freeze, etc. rather than figures 'for the fans' so to speak.

That's a pretty definitive answer. Do you have some insights into TLC's product marketing plans that you could share with us?

The funny thing is, Lego Star Wars fans said the exact same thing about characters like Lobot, Mon Mothma, and General Veers. They're too obscure, TLC would never bother with them! Guess what? They all got made into mini-figs ... eventually.

I think it's way too early to make any sort of predictions about what TLC is going to do with the Superheroes theme. I think a lot of us are HOPING that it will go the route of Star Wars -- 10+ years with hundreds of characters, both popular and obscure (personally, I want Booster Gold). It could also go the route of Speed Racer or Pirates of the Caribbean -- one or two waves and then it's gone. We just don't know yet.

All of those characters have gotten multiple toys in the last few years.

I think it will depend on how expansive Lego's plans are.

While I am certain the Teen Titans will be done in some capacity, I just hope we get some more obscure characters.

My SW example is a good comparison....I haven't heard of a lot of those characters either, but they still got made.

I have never heard of any of them.

If you even read or know of the comics, you would at least know the Flash Rogue gallery and the Legion.

The Legion was a team of heroes, but most prominent known members are Superboy (later Superman), Supergirl, Impulse, and Brainiac 5.

The Flash Rogue gallery were the team of enemies that were up against the Flash. Prominent members were Captain Cold, Mirror Master, and Weather Wizard.

And also:

so i guess they wont be well known/popular enough for lego to bother.

They are well known and established in the DC Universe to be made.

I have honestly never heard of any of these people, and I have read a bunch of comics over time.

I think the problem with comics in general that won't allow LEGO to get into even this secondary level of territory is that there's so, so much out there. So many different comics, characters, etc. With the sheer amount of material, there is no reason for LEGO to go beyond the top level of characters that are more guaranteed for people to know.

You never heard of Superman.....? :P

Brainiac 5 is a hero descended from Brainiac, a well known villain to Superman.

Captain Cold is the archenemy of Flash (like Lex is to Superman and Joker is to Batman). And if you don't know Flash, then we have a problem. Being that he is faster than Superman.... :P

And these are top characters.

The legion had it's own cartoon, they were on Smallville.

And if any license is begging for LEGO to pull out all the stops and release a TON of Minifigures, it is the Marvel and DC universes. Not just 'the six guys I know from the movies'.

They also just had a sell out gigantic figure twelve pack at mattycollector.com

Twelve figures in a gigantic box, retailing for 200 dollars. They sold out in less than an hour. The second production run also sold out.

Never heard of em? Look em up. They're awesome. And how is anybody gonna hear of anything if they do not give them a push.

I think it would also depend on the other companies that hold the licenses for the Super Heroes. LEGO has shown us that they are more than willing to do homework on a universe like the SW examples people have been given.

I think LEGO might base many of their decisions on how their agreement is structured. If they can get away with a multi year contract it is a good bet that they will treate the Super Heroes like the cash cow SW is.

As to the lower tier of heroes, I knew when I collected action figures I tended to gravitate towards the lesser knowns. After all, the top tier heroes often got featured in so many things that you got sick of them. Besides I want Flash fighting his own nimesis in Captain Cold rather than being stuck with other heroes Rogue Galleries.

I think this will all come down to where LEGO bases their source material on. If it solely lies on movies like Avengers or the next Dark Knight we may see a short release. However the Superman set gives me hope that they may actually be thinking about the comics which is where the source material should be. Since that's what they base the movies and TV shows on (well most of them anyways).

Personally I'm happy either way. I missed out on the Spider-Man and Batman sets since I was in my Dark Ages at the time. Anything is good to me at this point. :)

I think the real difference in the Superheroes vs Starwars, is the fact that starwars focuses so much on vehicles, that frankly are not that common in comics really.

Sure Batman has his car and plane, and I guess they could do an all clear brick superjet for wonder woman (lol) but most of the toylines that tried to have spidy in a car on on a bike or auquaman in a sub!?? pretty much tanked. I mean most of theese guys do not use vehicles and it makes it harder to sell sets with just random pieces tossed together to represent a bank or something.

I would love to see minifigures like the collectible series but since lego tends to focus on sets with included figures I think they will be stretching.

Starwars has tons of vehicles, and even vehicles you could resonably have multibles of (how many batmobiles do you realy need?), that they can toss fan favorite figures into, because the figures are not the selling point to the kiddies as much as the cool spaceship is.

I love the new sets because i missed out on them last time, I can not wait to see the marvel ones, but unless they just start releasing minifigs I think the line will probably peter out before we see 10+ years of it. I hope not. I'd love to always have new superhero sets, but Lego is going to have to realize for the comics its the minifigs that sell the sets more than anything else.

I mean i bought the Batcave for Poison Ivy and Bane, Catwoman catcycle for catwoman, Funhouse, for Robin, Bats, Harley, Ridler and Mr. J. NOT because the sets were great. Honestly from what I can tell the previous sets were better, but meh Harley Quinn and CatWoman woot!

Actually, Star Wars, Super Heroes, Harry Potter, etc., have a core theme running through them as old of time itself......good vs. evil.

Vehicles issue, it's the bad guys/girls that generally have the vehicles and the heroes use their powers or weapons to kick butt.....Jedi's can do the same too if they want.

This isn't a great comparison, as anyone with any interest in Star Wars has seen the movies that these characters appear in and the characters would look familiar to people who don't know their names. Meanwhile, there are so many different ways to be exposed to the well-known superheroes that people can be fans of them without even reading a single comic book (and this is especially likely to be true for kids, I bet).

The point wasn't about themes in the stories, but rather things that can be made into LEGO sets. Harry Potter may not have vehicles, but it has just enough iconic locations and scenes. "Good vs. evil" works for $10-$20 sets with a few characters in them, but larger sets need iconic vehicles or locations to get any attention.

I think we'll see a few unknowns (and I use few loosely). Just look at Harley Quinn. Sure, people who read comics and watched B:TAS know and love her, but she isn't that well known, she was only in one episdoe of The Brave and the Bold (from what I can tell) and hasn't appeared in any movies (except for Return of The Joker, but I don't think too many kids have watched that). There's Killer Croc and Nightwing too, but they only appeared in the Batman theme.

But when I say unknown, I don't mean very unknown. I mean characters like The Cheetah, who has been acknowledged to exist by LEGO (with that comic Clone Gunner posted a page or two back).

Of course, I do hope that we see unknown characters, and I mean even more unknown than Cheetah (not that I really care if we get her or not). I don't read comic books, but I know that if a character looks cool, I'll want them. I think it's the same with kids. They may not have any idea who a character like Azrael is, but they see him and think he looks cool, so they buy him. Simple.

I don't know about this theme being as big as Star Wars, at least not know. I do think it could be as big as Harry Potter though and last for at least ten years. But the thing limiting Super Heroes is the same thing limiting Harry Potter, vehicles. Super Heroes probably does have more vehicle potential than Harry Potter though, HP only has the Hogwarts Express, Flying Ford, and Knight Bus, while Super Heroes has the batmobile, batwing, batcycle, batboat, tumbler, Wonder Woman's jet (though I doubt we'll see that), quinjet, Loki's cosmic cube (whatever that is), and more. So, pretty much, we will see a lot of remakes, like Star Wars and Harry Potter. But is that really a bad thing? For collectors, I suppose so, but just look at how much nicer the current TIE fighter is than the last few attempts. And remakes aren't so bad, sure, it is redundant for collectors, but only a few licensed themes get remakes, Star Wars and Harry Potter being the only examples I can think of (well, now Batman), but it means that the line has the potential to keep going, so if that's what we need to get new sets later, I'm all for it.
