Bricksandparts Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 "I'm sure that makes him (her) feel better. " Jests Sylph at the guard. "So, Sam, do you know of a gender swap potion, or a 'become a boy' potion?" Sylph demanded of Sam in a pleasant manner. "Also," He started, his tone changing to annoyance, "Were you the last person to use the potions? If you were, you really aught to label the potions." "Oh... Yeah... 'bout that... You didn't have to drink the potions, that was your choice. I don't know if I have any potions that will instantly change your gender. The effects will probably last a few days, or if something else significant happens you may change back, I don't what to do as of now though." Sam sees the party has the magical parchment. "Oh, and I see you have successfully created the magic parchment!" Sam gathers the 3 tetonic potions and hands them to the party. "I believe I owe you these, I have another task, but this last one was much more trouble for you. I could still use help on the other task, this shouldn't take too long, if you have the time." Quote

It wouldn't have taken so long if Durkon hadn't fallen into a trap door and turn himself into a raabbit, then a girl. What's the task? Quote

Tamamono Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 "We'd be more than happy to re-label your crates. Right, gang?" Quote
The_Customizer Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Yeah, that should be MUCH easier to testing potions.... Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Here: Sam points to 3 boxes: "I was unloading packing them and realizes that I had them shifted over, and the labels were wrong. These have powder needed from making basic potions and tonics, so I only know that they all have the wrong ingredients in them. A few crates may not seem like much, but that's the money I need for making my living. The ingredients are about the size of sand when it's all crushed down. It's are separated into 2 layers with some other supports for strength, and I really would like to lose as little as possible. If you could find a way to show me that you know what the different crates contain by only opening one of the crate tops, I'll spare you some potions and tonics..." Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 "Well, at least you labeled them this time! " (I'll be back in maybe 4 hrs to help if you haven't figured it out by then.) Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 "Can we open them from the sides?" "Yes, but they are separated into two halves. It wouldn't help, it'd probably just make things messier." QM Note: Yay! Finally Danny won't solve this puzzle! Quote
RPGer Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) "Can you look in them through the bulb in the top?" If not, Durkonna will slit open a hole in the top of the crate with Khazad. Edited June 5, 2012 by RPGer Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 "Can you look in them through the bulb in the top?" If not, Durkonna will slit open a hole in the top of the crate with Khazad. What bulb? And you can't open any of them without giving Sam your reason. Quote
The_Customizer Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Ok, is it possible to see what the powders look like? If we do it right, we can discern what each color should look like, and relabeling it should be pretty easy from there. Quote

RPGer Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 "Hmm..." Durkon will smell his potions then then smell the three crates to find a match. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 "Ha! Durkon, you and your nose come in handy sometimes! Do take a whif of that and I'll see if I can get some clarification from Sam." Turning to Sam, he asked, "You say, you shifted them. Does that mean that they will follow the same pattern dictated by the labels, but just off from the labels by 1 or 2 boxes, or do you just label things haphazardly.?" Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Durkon smells the crates, but cannot smell them through the wood (No smelling!) "Ha! Durkon, you and your nose come in handy sometimes! Do take a whif of that and I'll see if I can get some clarification from Sam." Turning to Sam, he asked, "You say, you shifted them. Does that mean that they will follow the same pattern dictated by the labels, but just off from the labels by 1 or 2 boxes, or do you just label things haphazardly.?" "I had them in the correct order, but I accidentally put one on the opposite end so when I put the labels on they were all wrong." Quote
RPGer Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Durkonna smells her potion then opens a crate of potions and smells it. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 "I had them in the correct order, but I accidentally put one on the opposite end so when I put the labels on they were all wrong." So, you're saying the order they should be in follows the pattern of the labels, but one crate was on the opposite end. So it should be T, TH, H, but instead it's either TH, H, T or H, T, TH. Easy. You didn't accidentally, I don't know... Flip them too? Could you have? If you didn't then it's very easy to determine which is which, and we'll have your clerical error fixed up in a jiffy, but if you did, Nature forbid, flip the crates, then that gives us a whole other 2 possibilities. Answer me and I'll know which Crate's top to lift. Durkonna smells her potion then opens a crate of potions and smells it. No opening! We won't get the goods if you open all the tops! Quote
UsernameMDM Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Seeing that Sylph yet again has the puzzle under control, Hoke leans against the wall, removes his gloves and cleans his fingernails with a knife. Quote
The_Customizer Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Well, perhaps we can help him a bit? What if we just remove the lids? I mean, it wouldn't be hard to figure out which powder is red, which is green, and which is red and green, right? Quote

I mean, it wouldn't be hard to figure out which powder is red, which is green, and which is red and green, right? "We aren't to remove the lids as that would ruin the product," Hoke said while inspecting his newly trimmed and cleaned nails. "I am still trying to figure out how Sam will tell us we are correct." Hoke returns the knife back to its sheath and pulls his gloves back onto his hands. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 QM Note: The crates are all labeled wrong, I can tell you that much. You need to explain to Sam what you are going to do to try to convince him a way that would only have to have the party open one crate. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 QM Note: The crates are all labeled wrong, I can tell you that much. You need to explain to Sam what you are going to do to try to convince him a way that would only have to have the party open one crate. Seems easy enough. Sylph, having regarded the situation and conferred with the team, turned to face Sam. "Well, my friend, I have devised an easy test to determine the correct contents of each crate. You said that one crate was shifted to the opposite side. There are only two solutions to which crate contains which. The original pattern is R, RG, G (tonic, tonic+potion, potion) but it is now either RG, G, R, if the R was shifted to the reverse side, or G, R, RG, if the G was. We now simply have to open one crate, say, the middle one, and if the middle one, marked RG is G, then the real RG is to its left, and the R to its right. But if the middle one shows up R, then G is to its left, and RG to its right. Understood? If so, I'll have my lovely assistant Durkonette lift the middle box's lid." Quote
