I was unable to find a topic about this so I thought it safe to ask about it. My family will be moving from South Dakota to Kauai in Hawaii soon and i'm looking for tips on getting our Lego collection to our new home. Has anyone had experience with shipping their collection? If you have let me know. Thank you!

the main issue would be assembled sets or parts? Parts are easy - just put them in containers (even ziplog bags) and put that inside cardboard boxes and ship away. Sets, well, that'd be tricky to have it arrive nicely. I'd suggest taking them apart at least partially and then put them carefully into boxes, but expect them to be even more apart when they arrive :) Shippers are NOT gentle to packages.

You could individually bag each set and then place in a big box. Reassemble any broken off pieces when they arrive. Having each set in its own bag would take out the guess work of which set the loose pieces came from.

Take all your sets apart and bag them. Then you will have fun building them again.

This method works out just fine (and will be a lot of fun later). Go out and get a box of gallon-size ziploc bags (or smaller, depending on what you need to store). It makes everything much more compact and you don't need to worry about anything breaking. Plus, while you are disassembling all of your sets you can take this chance to dust whatever needs dusting. Take a soft-bristle paint brush to the pieces as you go, gets dust off really nicely.

When I moved my “small” collection 8 years ago. I put sets into zip lock bags. Some times I’d partially disassemble them ad put them into several bags. Then dumped them into large rubber-made’s.

Since then my collection has grown and I’ve shifted from collecting sets to being a builder. So every thing is pretty much shredded and in color & piece coded groups. So I’d do the same. Zip lock them by group types and then box them. That way if a box is damaged or dropped the bricks don’t get thrown all over the place.

Like they say, if looks like it might get messy, double up on your protection. *huh*

As I am from a millitary family, I had to move every 1 - 2 years for my entire childhood. I have been a LEGO fan since I was 2.5. Thus, we needed to find a way to ship LEGO.

The solution: Black Trash Bags.

1. Fill bag with LEGO

2. Tie bag

3. Put bag in packing box

4. Ship box

5. At your destination, unpack your unharmed LEGO
