H_Solo Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Yeah! Just put in my final sweeping order at the Lego site for my rebricked 10179... That puts me to a total of 7 BL and 2 Lego orders... more, than I expected, but I think it's still all right... the grand total should be something around 890 Euro for all the bricks (about 70% new ones) including postage... I did order a few extra Parts for my son and extras for the planned mods to the model so the total to a 100% original rebricked Falcon is somewhat relative... I must say, I totally underestimated how time consuming this undertaking really is... I spend hours and hours sorting through delivered parts and checking the Brickstock files against them... and I did double-order a few parts, but still negliable - now I really can't wait to build this baby! Chills Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Congratulations on placing your final order. Be sure to post pics of the build progress. Quote
H_Solo Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Thanks! I'm in the middle of building the Death Star (10188) together with my son right now... Fantastic set but out of the box not really that challenging after this rebricking experience! I think this kind of hobby is highly addictive! Quote
bmerigan Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Chills, I just flicked through your photos - don't take this the wrong way but... you're a little bit nuts! Quote

Aeroeza Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Hahaha. I'll take that as a compliment. Wouldn't a UCS Falcon look awesome in my room? You'd better Bricklink it as a MISB 10179 might cost you that extension I mentioned in another post... Quote
Chills Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 You'd better Bricklink it as a MISB 10179 might cost you that extension I mentioned in another post... Oh yeah, if I ever have a 10179 it'll be BLed. My wife would kill me for buying a MISB one. LOL Quote
Lobot Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 It's great fun if you want a challenge, but it's very time-consuming. Hopefully the rumour of a new/updated version in 2015 is true as it would help to bring the current aftermarket prices down to a more sensible level Quote
Holtz Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Now the last two parts for my BL 10179 is at the post office, Chistmas will be in the world of building. Quote

Hopefully the rumour of a new/updated version in 2015 is true as it would help to bring the current aftermarket prices down to a more sensible level I think we live in hope of that happening as either a way of getting a new big build Falcon, a way of bringing down the cost of 10179s or as a way of getting a great start in recreating a 10179. ;) Quote
Lobot Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I found a couple of Bricklink sellers recently who had a decent sale on and managed to get about 1700 parts (including some of the larger plates etc) for about £110. I was determined not to build another 10179, but I have a real weakness for them, especially when I see a total bargain! Actually, it's quite interesting to see how the prices have changed since I built one nearly two years ago; some are becoming really prohibitive, but others haven't increased at all. If I carry on at that level I should be able to build it for around £575-£600 with all new parts (and a few substitutions! ) Quote

Lobot Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Thanks, I'm trying to use the same approach as I did with my last one, which had the following replacements: Actual colour used shown in brackets: 111 x Black Technic, Pin Long with Friction Ridges Lengthwise (Blue) 36 x Dark Bluish Gray Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical End (Light Bluish Grey) 32 x Dark Bluish Gray Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger On End (Light Bluish Grey) 14 x Dark Bluish Gray Technic, Axle Connector (Ridged with x Hole x Orientation) (Light Grey, doh!) 2 x Light Bluish Gray Boat Mast Rigging Long 28 x 4 (Black) 1 x Light Bluish Gray Dish 10 x 10 Inverted (Radar) with Radiating Spokes Pattern on Concave Side (No pattern) 58 x Light Bluish Gray Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers Vertical End (Dark Bluish Grey) 60 x Light Bluish Gray Lever Small Base with Light Bluish Gray Lever (Black & Light Bluish Grey) 8 x Tan Brick, Modified 2 x 2 with Pin and Axle Hole (Light Bluish Grey) The '8 x Tan Brick, Modified 2 x 2 with Pin and Axle Hole' are now readily available so I'll use them, but I might have to give the dark red 6 x 14 plate a miss as the cost has increased considerably. If you're interested here's a link to the thread I created for my first one: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=80053 I made my third order yesterday for another 594 parts, so I'm up to 2,264 (or 43.78%) for £156.11....unfortunately it will get a lot more expensive from now on! H_Solo Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 (edited) DONE! Started out on Christmas Eve... build every day, (a little less on the 26., as we were at my parents house this day...) All in all, I must say, the hardest part was the ordering and keeping track of things... I got sooo much parts left, that I must have ordered too often or as a surplus, but I really can't remember it... also there were a lot of parts missing, so I had to build alternatives or a workaround... I also found two essential parts missing, that I ordered, but LEGO didn't deliver them and I forgot about them as well... The building isn't the problem at all... the build was fun and very short whiled with very little repetition but keeping track of those abundance of parts was a nightmare! I tried to keep it organized with lots of sorting boxes and plastic bags... which did work out all right! I also did build the alternative engine design, that I like very much! I also used a lot of used "old gray" and yellowed parts to get this dirty washed up look... I always saved the most chewed out bricks for the top layers... ;-) Also there are some modifications to the greeblies, the piping and of course the radar dish... not everything is always 100% movie accurate but I think you can never add too much detail to a model of this size! I'm still fine tuning about the piping and overall detailing... still waiting for two or three parts tI ordered last minute over BL to complete the model! So after this tour de force, I cant wait to start my next project... thankfully, I already got the Simpsons house and the AT-AT from my birthday/christmas waiting right here to be build... hachiroku Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 I like how those old gray/sand plates look like. I think I will use some of them too I built an alternate rear grill Quote
Krikkit Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Damn i love this... Think i might have to get ready to do this this year. Quote

Chills Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 H_Solo, your pics aren't showing up. Could they be bad links? I'd really like to see your finished Falcon! Quote
H_Solo Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Seems the used picture-server is down... I"ll try to host them somewhere else... Quote

H_Solo Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Great work! :-) I'm on the verge of building the Death Star Hangar Diorama for mine right now... Quote
Lobot Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Good work, it's always good to see another Bricklinked Falcon. I'm making fairly good progress with mine, I'm up to 4034 parts but the total cost is rapidly heading towards £600. I was hoping for a bit less, but the cost of postage has really added up and some of the odd parts are getting very scarce Quote
