Roger_Smith Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Found this in my collection, and I'm not sure if it's Lego. I'm talking about the traffic sign itself, the post is an old ship mast from the 80ies and definately Lego, and the 1x8 brick is there for additional size reference. Combined with the ship mast (which it was attached to all these years, approx 1995-2013), it is about the right size for the old style maxifigs from the 70ies, or maybe some Duplo stuff, though maybe even a bit to big for either. I remember I used it in my Lego city regardless of its enourmous size. The sign fits on the mast with a clip (about 6mm high) at the back. Atleast it did until it broke when I took the sign off to see if it had a Lego logo somewhere... The front is not printed, just an off-centre sticker. The plastic of the sign feels and looks slightly different than usual Lego plastic, the surface has a slightly structured feel to it. I also found a similar Stop sign later on, with the clip at the back already broken. Quote
antp Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) One possible origin for the traffic sign is the French "Majokit" make: http://i87.servimg.c...44/dscn2936.jpg Though that I do not remember if that sign existed (here on the pic there is a similar one, but for the end of priority road, i.e. with a black line across it) But the sign could also be from something else similar: it does not seem to have a bevelled border like the Majokit signs. TheLET Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I believe I recognise this part from my youth, altough I'm not completly sure. However I think it might be an old Playmobil road sign. Those were often stickered and had one clip on the back. If this it the case then the stop sign should be a bit larger then this one. Quote
Stinky Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Recently I bought some parts that would be part of the inventory of set #119. But instead of the two Train Direction Switch (BL part 3218) there were alternative parts. They are a gray plate 3x2 with a gray plate 1x3 vertically mounted on top of them. I guess they would work as a direction switch. But, this part I cannot find on BL and I have no clue on what they are and in what sets they came in. I hope my description is good enough or else I'll take a picture. Who can tell me what part this is? TIA! Quote
coffeeandcake Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 could this be the part you are talking about? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4169 Quote
Stinky Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Wow! That was a quick and correct answer! I had never seen these. Thanks a lot! :) Quote
Fugazi Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Who can tell me what part this is? TIA! We actually have a topic devoted to this sort of enquiries. Merged. Quote
Zeya Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 [...] only those plates are unknown by me Thank you very much. Is the other short edge of these plates broken? Because that plate really looks like the top of that hinge: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?P=3149c01 - notch in the visible short edge as seen here on the right http://www.bricklink...L/3149c01.jpg?1 - hole like the old type seen here on the right http://www.bricklink.com/TL/2949.jpg I'll take a closer look later on. I didn't think those strange plates are snapped, and there are two of them...I think I would have noticed. I'll see if I can take some better photos of it to share. I do have another question. Wheels are really annoying to me, and I'm trying to complete an older set. I think I need just the red wheel hubs from this assembly, but I can't figure out how to find it on BL: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=122c01 ...or is that thing not meant to come apart (like a metal rod sort of thing)? I think Bricklink doesn't has catalog items for just the red parts (or the black). If BL would have these sub-parts, it would've been linked above the links that note in how many sets it appears. antp Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 That one is not supposed to come apart, but a slightly different one exists apart : http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3464 Quote
Aanchir Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 That one is not supposed to come apart, but a slightly different one exists apart : http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3464 Yes, but that one can't be mounted on a central axle-- it's an airplane wheel for mounting beneath a model with parts like this and this. It is also used for older LEGO motorcycles. That red wheel and black plate assembly is permanent (or at least, not designed to be separated). The red wheels are connected by a metal axle which goes through a hole in either side of the black plate. Quote
antp Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Sure, it is another part, but I thought that Zeya maybe confused the two parts since the question contained "I think I need just the red wheel hubs from this assembly" and I do not see how it could be used apart in a set, unlike the one I suggested which could be used as pulley. Zeya Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Thanks Aanchir/Antp. I must have a misunderstanding. I've been parting together a couple dozen sets from my childhood and sometimes I run into head-scratching issues like this. I do have a bundle of the metal axle wheel things, so hopefully it's in there. Thanks guys. P.S. I don't like some of these older parts with metal. Rubs me the wrong way. Can't swap out wheels and such. Quote
antp Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) When I was kid (80s) I had both, but at first I prefered the swappable all-plastic wheels, I found them looking better and the color choice was better (white/grey/yellow instead of red/white). Then when I discovered that after a few years of play these plastic wheels didn't attach very well anymore (plastic was worn out due to friction), I found that the metal ones weren't that bad in the end... :) And it is easier to swap tyres (between large & small) on the metal ones. Thanks. EDIT: I thought to look at the pieces under a loupe (magnifying glass). They have writing in the stud hollows on the underside. There are 3 hollow studs on each. The first one has: "3", "Pat Pend.", "10" in each hollow. The second one has: "6.", "Pat Pend.", "10" in each hollow. I'm not sure what to make of that; I rarely look at markings on bricks. Zeya Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 And then one more time, I just want to double check if any of these are Lego. I don't think anything is. The doors almost could be, if not for the studs being too high. All studs in this photo are too tall to be Lego, I think. No Lego markings. The tires say "DIA BLOCK", which sounds like a clone brand. In fact I googled, and it does seem to be a clone brand (http://www.diablock.co.jp). Must be a clone brand with staying power, because all these parts are from 1975ish to 1994 at the latest. Peppermint_M Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Ok, so the parts you posted first look like disassembled vintage hinge parts. Your second post is simply clone parts from a not very compatible brand. The scales are off, they do not match up with LEGO and those freaky dogs look like any number of little plastic toy. Now, on to my own question: My Father is determined that once-upon-a-time LEGO had individual tiles for rooves, not sloped bricks but actual honest to fiddly hard to place tiles (this is often part of an "In my day LEGO was harder to do and had less-blahahahahblahah" rant) I have looked, searched, checked and poured over every resource (including the actual lego house tour in Billund!) and not come across these mythical place in place roof tiles. (I would dismiss it as Dad being 'ornery but Mum agrees there was something like that around) I think it was a clone brand or completely different toy he is thinking of but that gets down a road of "Are you calling your grandmother a liar?" and I have to back off. So, has anyone come across such things anywhere? Quote
antp Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 The "tile for roof" makes me think to this Modulex part: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=Mx1511 (also exists as 1x2 and 1x3 with different angle then), but I do not think such part existed in "normal" Lego. Ok, so the parts you posted first look like disassembled vintage hinge parts. That's what I suggested, but not just disassembled: it was cut/broken to get this result, I suppose. Quote
Zeya Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 About my mystery red plates, I think they are indeed that hinge part. It's odd because the end toward the hinge doesn't seem to be broken. Maybe the break was just so clean. But I asked on BL too, and people can only think of that hinge part. Also I have a set those hinge parts were in, so it's a good chance that must be it. Thanks everyone. Quote

So, has anyone come across such things anywhere? Well yes... now you can tell them to take a hike! LEGO has never had roof tiles that were anything other than sloped bricks. From day 1 of LEGO in 1949 TLG used regular bricks for roofs, pyramid style, but since they were hollow bottom until 1958... they could not overhang the side of the building. Then in 1958 with the advent of tubes on the underside of bricks, the first sloped bricks were born (45 degree)... in red. 2 years later (1960) blue slopes were introduced... there were 13 different slopes altogether... of which 12 are still produced today. Only this one was retired in 1972.... (ignore the 1957-1969 dates in BL... they should be 1959-1972)... http://www.bricklink...gItem.asp?P=962 LEGO 1x1, 1x2 and 2x2 flat tiles were introduced in 1965... but not used for roofs (except maybe a flat roof. And then other degree LEGO slopes were introduced starting in 1971 (33 degree). But TLG has NEVER produced a roof "tile" besides sloped bricks. Only in modern times have SNOT techniques been advocated for LEGO sets, including roofs, so that's not what they were talking about. Your family must have LEGO Dimentia! antp Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 TLG never produced a Lego System roof tile, but they produced a Modulex one, as I posted earlier ;) Quote

Peppermint_M Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Nope, he'd But TLG has NEVER produced a roof "tile" besides sloped bricks. Yeah, I keep telling them that. Lets see that they think about that! Quote
Yoshi648 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I bought this plastic case yesterday at a thrift store: I did find it on BrickLink, but it doesn't have any information whatsoever on it. Anyone know what set this came with? Quote

Anyone know what set this came with? It looks very similar to this box which was sold in red with sets 322/1932. Not sure if that helps? Quote
