danim Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 hi guys I have received a pile of lego from a mate of mine and I found a very unusual brick in the pile, now I know it is a white 2x4 but what is odd about it is the orientation of the lego printing on the brick the one on the right is a standard brick the one on the left is the odd brick do you know when this was made or why the printing is the wrong orientation Quote
LEGOman273 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) hi guys I have received a pile of poop stockings from a mate of mine and I found a very unusual brick in the pile, now I know it is a white 2x4 but what is odd about it is the orientation of the poop stockings printing on the brick *Snip* the one on the right is a standard brick the one on the left is the odd brick do you know when this was made or why the printing is the wrong orientation Not wrong. Look at the LEGO logo; it is an old version. The brick is old, but I don't know how old. Edited April 1, 2012 by LEGOman273 Quote
Darkdragon Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 the one on the right is a standard brick the one on the left is the odd brick do you know when this was made or why the printing is the wrong orientation It's probably a "patent pending" brick. Check inside the top where you would see the 3001 stamp and see what it says there. Probably "Patent Pending" or "Patent Pend" The logo looks similar to this one, but in a different orientation. fyrmedhatt Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 hi guys I have received a pile of lego from a mate of mine and I found a very unusual brick in the pile, now I know it is a white 2x4 but what is odd about it is the orientation of the lego printing on the brick the one on the right is a standard brick the one on the left is the odd brick do you know when this was made or why the printing is the wrong orientation The orientation just reflects the mold that was used at the time, so as LEGOman273 is saying, it's not wrong, just different. I'm curious as to which plastic this is made of, is it ABS (like modern bricks) or CA? You should be able to tell from the feel of the brick. If it's ABS, the brick is certainly newer than around 1963, when Lego made the switch from one to the other. Also, how does it look underneath? A modern 2x4 has "support bars" underneath, while the older "3001old" only has the tubes with no bracing of the walls. I believe the change between the two was at some point in the late seventies. I'm very uncertain about logo changes, although I think the modern logo goes back at least to the early seventies, so from my (extremely limited and somehat speculative) knowledge the brick is from the sixties. For a far more certain answer I would recommend you post this question on the Bricklink message boards, as member Maxx3001 there is an avid 2x4 brick collector and probably knows more about them than anyone else on this planet. Here is a link to his Flickr stream which could possibly help you to answer your question as well: Flickr Quote
Modulex Guy Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 It's probably a "patent pending" brick. Check inside the top where you would see the 3001 stamp and see what it says there. Probably "Patent Pending" or "Patent Pend" The logo looks similar to this one, but in a different orientation. Calling that brick a "Pat Pend" brick is still a very broad area. The sideways logo bricks are most likely Samsonite bricks. Samsonite used LEGO molds that were retooled for their use, most likely changing the orientation of the logo with the retool. Quote

danim Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 both the bricks say pat pend, the standard orientation one has p15 and the sideways brick has 53 and does have a different feel to it and neither of them have the support bars also the sideways brick has less clutch power than the rest of my 2x4s Quote
Zeya Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I got around to combing through a couple eBay lots I got. (Cleaning takes a long time!) I have a couple questions. This part, I'm pretty sure is not Lego. I looked pretty closely and couldn't find any markings on it. I apologize for the bad photos. But if you can make it out, the part that would go around a fig neck is quite wide. Also these clips on the side aren't wide enough to fit a gauge of something like a sword handle or an antenna pole (anything that fits in a minifig hand, basically). I just wanted to run this by other people because it intrigued me at any rate. And before I go and sell this unwanted stuff on eBay, I thought I would check and ask if anyone could spot anything particularly interesting or valuable in here. Anything you think an average AFOL would regret selling off? Quote
Holodoc Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Hi Zeya! I'm not into Brickarms, Brickforge etc. - stuff, but your wanted part looks like it is made from a 3rd party seller. You wrote it: it doesn't show any LEGO marking, what would be a sure hint it is made by our favourite toy company. Don't ask me though which precise seller it is... The ebay lot you want to sell doesn't show any parts of higher interest. The classic spacemen's torsos are quite worn off, but the helmets are of the old type. But don't expect too much for that. Maybe you want to keep the white hourse for sentimental reasons. Quote

Yes, the spacemen are all "well loved". The white horse is nothing special, and in fact it's the most scratched up piece here; no use to me. Also, you can usually find white horses on the PAB wall (for how much longer remains to be seen, what with the new horses coming out soon). Thanks for taking a look for me. Quote

Holodoc Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 What minifigs come with same color hands that are easy to obtain? Also are the any minifig torso's in the BAM bins at the Lego store with red hands? Thanks. What you are looking for is red hands. Here's the list of all minifigs in the spiderman universe. As you can see, all spiderman minifigs came with red hands. Your fig is the one labelled spd028. If you click on the label, you'll get here. This is the page containing all info about your particular minifig. Now click on "View inv" on the right side and you'll be taken to the parts list of the minifig. The torso itself again consists of three parts. Click on "(Inv)", next to the torso labelled 973pb325c01. The last entry is the hands. Now click on "983" and - violá: Everything you need to know about hands! ... by the way 157 minifigs come with red hands and currently the are 124 hands on sale, beginning with 3c each. This should be a very easy way to get your hands. Best of luck completing your minifig! Quote

CMP Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 That's probably a custom. Looks okay in quality, I guess, but it's not pure LEGO. Quote
