Jipay Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 We set up a new group for the ladies we have at EB : the ladies group. Of course they'll get better set up :-P
JINZONINGEN73 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hardly. And I'm sure if anyone took offense to their listing, then it'd be changed to keep the peace. There are "levels" for ladies though, right?
Jipay Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Yes, as for standard members. And it's not sexist at all, it's being polite and making our ladies feel at home.
Zane Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 But surely it's making a seperation between men and women? I mean, men should have a group too, but since most people are men then it'd be pointless.....
Hobbes Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 but since most people are men then it'd be pointless..... Most of our members are guys, hence the Lady group to show that we appreciate our female members, not to seperate...
Jipay Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Making a separation between men and women is somehow normal : we can't even use the same toilets...
Starwars4J Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 A separate group for guys? The normal ranks we've had until now are exclusively for guys :-P On the internet, calling yourself a woman draws sometimes unwanted attention though. I just hope this doesn't prevent any new members. Bah, I'm sure it won't :-P Actually, how about someone set up a poll for the women to take to see what they think of the idea?
Kikuichimonji Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 So does this mean that you have to enter your gender when signing up? Or is it like "if we, at some point, find out you're a girl, then you'll be moved to another group"?

Chuck Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Could we possibly add those who continualy disobey the the rules to the group of the opposite sex? I.e., lady spammer is taken out of lady group, man spammer put in the lady group? Just kidding *skull* But seriously, I think this is a good idea, and we could even change some of the member classifications, such as a lady who was a duke could be changed to duchess. -l2k-
Asuka Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Maybe we should ask our lady-members for their thoughts about this.... 8-|

Chuck Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 that's actually in the pipe ! Which part? The part about spammers? You were just kidding? Or the duke to duchess thing? -l2k-
Chuck Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Duke to Duchess Thought so. a few more: Count= Countess Grand Duke= Grand Duchess -l2k-
gylman Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I would, like others have already done, suggest that we ask our 3-5 female members whether they care about this, or want it to be implemented. I have my doubts.
captaintau Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I don't see the need. In all other walks of life, the male variant is assumed where gender is mixed. I can't see anyone taking offence. If you're gonna have a "ladies" section, then can I also suggest an "under 30s" section, a "homosexual" section, a section for people of a particular race etc. We don't need seperation,we need to reatin universal integration. Much like LEGO kits, we are greater than our constituent parts.
DoubleT Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Well for us its importent to show that females are welcome here... Not to show difference...
gylman Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 The thought is nice, the intentions are good, and I agree with the principle. But the reality of identifying "ladies" on male-centric forums frequented by large number of relatively young males (speaking as a 40+ person myself) may not be what the ladies are looking for.
Scouty Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 How about the Male and Female symbols. That' would be a good idea.

But the reality of identifying "ladies" on male-centric forums frequented by large number of relatively young males (speaking as a 40+ person myself) may not be what the ladies are looking for. Granted, on alot of sites, adding the knowledge of "female" to members equals stalking, PM spamming annoyance. But I think this site can handle any such boogers easily. And the people who'd have a female title are already known to be female anyway. If they've got issues, they could opt out. If you're gonna have a "ladies" section, then can I also suggest an "under 30s" section, a "homosexual" section, a section for people of a particular race etc. More importantly, we can't forget the hermaphrodites. As for males who are bad, switching them to a female standing is putting that gender down. Now EUNUCHS... now that's on-theme, accurate to their posting status and funny. Plus, kids falling into that have to go out and search what it means on their own. X D Unsure of what a female equivalent to that would be.
Kahgarak Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 In all other walks of life, the male variant is assumed where gender is mixed. Indeed.Like,we call God a Him,but who knows,it could be a She,or even an It.
