Great game everyone! (I hate being killed at night. :hmpf_bad: ) But I think I did a much better job for the town behind the scenes. I was messaging several people and before long multiple people knew I had a night action. (None of them scum though.) Overall, I, personally, think I did a good job this game.

Welcome to Yakuza Family, in this game of wits and strategy you'll be playing:

cimg0520.jpg

Saburo – Played by Masked Builder

Saburo is the second successor to his fathers company. His brothers Shiro and Jirou never had ambitions to work for their fathers business. Saburo enjoys working for his father, but he doesn’t want to take over the company.

You are the Town Watcher. You can target a player at night and learn who, if anybody, targeted that player the same night (but not what actions were performed on that player). You win when all the Scum is eliminated.

I have to say that as the first game I've played with a dedicated night action, I rather enjoyed killing people. :classic:

Killing people is all kinds of fun.:tongue:

Welcome to Yakuza Family, in this game of wits and strategy you'll be playing:

cimg0559.jpg

Yoshiko – Played by Cecilie

When Yoshiko was just a little girl she was trapped in an elevator for 24 hours. Unable to use the restroom she had to do her thing in a corner of the elevator. Ever since she has been a germofobe. She wears a mask 24/7 to try and avoid inhaling to many bacteria. She disinfects her hands about twice an hour.

You are the Town Hider. You can target one player each night. That night you will be treated in the same manner as your target. So every action used on that person will also be used on you. If you hide behind a player who is not a member of the Town, you will die. When you hide, all actions directed at you will fail. You win when all the Scum is eliminated.

I spent the first game day wondering how I could best use my action. I knew that it came with a high risk, that I would probably die early (too bad I had to die hiding behind the kill target instead of behind a scum though :cry_sad:), and that my role would be completely useless unless I told someone about it. I feared dying already the first night, so I chose to tell two people who to scrutinize the next day in the event that I was killed (without telling them exactly what my role was). But then def told me he was the investigator, so I figured what the hell, and just told him everything about my role  (he seemed very convincing!). I really wanted to help form a solid town block by confirming people with my action. And the night I targeted JimB I was actually going to target Brickdoctor, but we switched at the last minute because def was a bit panicky about trusting JimB, so he wanted him confirmed but had already sent in his investigation action. Unlucky switch...

And def, we were screaming on the dead writeboard for you to see that Bob was lying to you . You finally figured it out in the end though .

It's sad to hear that the Agents had their game broken by a hosting error though. I wonder how things would have played out if you had gotten to join with the Mutineers.

That's the scum writeboard, password is Yakuza. It got pretty lonely towards the end. :cry_sad:

Bob: Regarding your day eight... Personally, I don't enjoy it when scum give it up under pressure when being voted out, and I gave you a few jabs about it. In retrospect (that is to say, someone kind of pointed it out to me in a matter of words), maybe some people get a kick out of the deceased goofing off in thread. I honestly don't, and it strikes me as a football team deciding to do karaoke in the second half since they're losing the game anyway... But I tend to think of mafia as a game to seriously play. So, I didn't enjoy it, but it was a dick move of me to take away from others' enjoyment of what you were doing, including yourself. And for that, I apologize.

Also, your defense was too much roleplay: "This is how you repay me?" That screamed scum to me.

I didn't really give up under pressure, I actually kept defending myself until I was "convicted" (the point of no possible return). I pretty much made some stuff up (I deleted the original thread Jim sent me by accident, so I made up the conversations from memory and added stuff to help me). I was extremely confused that MetroiD unvoted me and voted for Alopex when I said I was the investigator. It was at that point where I was willing to resign and accept my fate, but seeing that pumped some life into me and I kept on fighting.

I was a bit sour that you metagamed towards the end, saying that a true mafia player with the mafia tag wouldn't draw things out. I was still defending myself seriously at the time, so that rather stung. The whole purpose of stopping metagaming is to separate each game and to stop regular stuff from being treated as evidence. I got Norrington voted off in Baritones I because I said that his camera looked like a rocket launcher.

At any rate, I feel I played much better this game than previously. I first started networking on Day One, and it was then I found out who the town blocker was. Then Jim approached me and said he was the protector, so that was good. I was a little bit mad that the rest of my team wanted to kill off the power roles as soon as I discovered them. I told them specifically not to kill off Jim on Night Three because I was the only one who knew about his role besides def. It was actually really tough to defend myself, but I feel I did. Most of my team was pretty new to the big games though, Scuba and Fhomess were in IMHOTEP as their first real game and TheBoyWonder and Etzel were fresh out of Mafia School. I'm not being insulting, my team performed admirably, but there were times where I wished that I was in control of the kill action.

The real nail in my coffin is how I failed to jailkeep Rick on Night Six. I think I ran out of jailkeeps, but I was still stupid in not jailkeeping Rick. I have a feeling I could have lasted much longer if I kept doing that, as I planned to kill Flitwick on Night Eight leaving def apparently wide open.

I'm not really sure I could have won this game. I was the only scum left; there weren't even any secret agents left. At any rate, I tried and although I ultimately failed it was a lot of fun. Thank you for this wonderful game.

And to def, there's no hard feelings and I accept your apology. What happens in one game shouldn't transform into opinions in other games, nor outside in the real forums.

Then we were screwed over by VolcanicPanik and zakura, who as it turned out knew each other in real life. zakura 'knew' I was a secret agent on Day One, because Panik told him. We spent a lot of time fire-fighting and trying to find out exactly what Panik had told zakura, so that we could at least try to build some defence. Panik went mysteriously quiet for quite some time.

This was a big game-breaker for me. You two should have told the host in advance that you knew each other IRL.

I don't think you need to inform the host of that, unless it's going to be a conflict. I've stated before that for me, I couldn't play with my live-in partner, but that's personal, and I don't think being a real life acquaintance of a game player is a game-breaker.

If they were the same person on two accounts, yeah, that would be a problem....

I know you were frustrated, but there still was an element of luck to it, as I had investigated you first night. Instead, I was blocked, and Zakura vouched for you ("safe and trusted" were his words), and for a while, I fed you way too much town info. So it seems like, at least in this case, things balanced out for you. As for the Agents abilities and goals, I can't say.

I have to say that as the first game I've played with a dedicated night action, I rather enjoyed killing people. :classic: I was very thankful that I had both Cecilie and def to talk things over with after the first night. We were very confident about our town alliance those first few days. We probably wouldn't have been as much had we known that the secret agents knew who we all were. If they'd actually had a kill action, we'd have been in trouble.

I know you were frustrated after killing Legonator on night two, so I was glad we had great accuracy after that, or I'd be feeling like a real megablocks right now. I'm glad we were an effective team :sweet:

And def, we were screaming on the dead writeboard for you to see that Bob was lying to you . You finally figured it out in the end though .

How did you know? :oh: I only figured it out when Rick was asking me, "What exactly did Bob say?" and in the time it took me to copy-paste what he wrote, I saw him call me out as the investigator, which I hadn't admitted to him (I admitted about nothing to him, after he exposed JimB to me for no reason). I don't know what he did in thread to call attention to himself.

Somewhat unfortunately, I was in contact with almost all the other 31 players in this game. I can't remerber who I didn't contact with at this point. The major downside to that is it's really hard to sort through the lazy townies and the coasting scum. I'm glad I didn't stick to that list of six I'd made :sweet:

I don't think I want to see the dead writeboard. I'm sure there was a lot of negativity for my cheating and deceiving ways.

Nah it was actually pretty friendly, and you did a stellar job defending yourself at the end. Until you unsurprisingly gave up because it was pointless.

I'm sorry to hammer on a point, but that's not metagaming. When the scum killed Kiel night one, that was metagaming. I haven't read your writeboard, but I expect it to be overflowing with metagaming.

It seemed to me at a certain point that you'd given up, and then shifted to increasingly implausible theories. Did you actually expect anyone to buy into the notion that you had taken over the vig role as the red ninja, or that you were the new investigator? The timeline is a little fuzzy to me at this point, but at the point I wrote that, you didn't seem to be saying things that were plausible. Maybe it was just me. After that, you started sending PMs, and it seemed you were trying again, sending PMs that could muddy the clarity of the next day's vote, so it seemed that you'd got back into it. But, it seemed that in the middle that you'd given up on things, and were having a laugh, and again, at the end of the day, you seemed to have a laugh about it. That was my outside perspective, so I can't say what was going on in your head. And even if you were having a laugh, that's just not my style of play, so I'm sorry to give you a hard time for it.

Anyway, that wasn't metagaming in any shape or form. I was voting for you well before that. Killing Kiel night one was metagaming, and you should wear it with pride on your sleeve

And to def, there's no hard feelings and I accept your apology. What happens in one game shouldn't transform into opinions in other games, nor outside in the real forums.

None at all, power to you :sweet:

Killing Kiel was actually my idea, and can you really blame me? To be honest, calling out metagaming is one of the most stupid things that seem to be going on here, in my opinion. Wether you like it or not, since people have been playing before with each other, it will happen anyway. Even unnoticable. TBW said he died because of metagaming. But mind you, if I was in Brickdoctor's position, I would have done the same exact thing. Metagaming is unavoidable, deal with it.

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but it is simply a fact: As scum, you got to do what you must. We were very much underpowered, role wise, compared to the town, perhaps that would have balanced out if the agents had managed to kill me, and merge... But the case is, it is clear def can rally a town, and with the first night being basically a blind one, there is basically nothing you CAN do, other than pick a target based on metagaming.

I know why I was killed, my role-claim was ridiculous. But I was actually quite surprised I was not lynched the day after I was blocked. What I was also quite surprised by, is that Volcanicpanik tried to bring me down in his defense. He must have known by that point I was a mutineer... And since one of his goals was to merge with the rest of the mutineers, that action did not make much sense to me...

Game Mechanics

When I planned this game, I started with designing the figures and the family tree. After that I knew I wanted to let this game revolve around the four brothers. Each one of them had an investigative power; tracker, follower, voyeur and watcher. All they could do was watch. But if they were able to combine their powers and target one person they would be able to see the entire course of events that revolved around that one person.

From that point of view I went on and created the bad guys, the Mutineers. It would be their mission to overpower the Town, as we have seen before. I decided the Godfather was immune to investigation by the cop. If he was targeted by the cop he would come up as a townie. Their team consisted of:

- A godfather, immune to the cops investigation

- A role blocker

- A role cop

- A jailkeeper/janitor, who got to use each action twice, only one a night

- A goon, who would get the role of the first Mutineer who was to die.

Then I created another team of bad guys, the secret agents. It was their duty to find the Mutineers Godfather. If they’d manage to do so, their killing ability would be released and their team would be merged with the Mutineers team. Of course they would have to kill the Godfather to do this. Their team consisted of:

- A godfather/lyncher who had to find the other godfather

- A mistress who could sleep with other players, which would cause the other player to fall in love with her. In case she got murdered by another faction than her own, all those who she slept with would die. Her targets were informed that they had sexy time with Momoe last night, but they weren’t told what the consequences would be.

- A role blocker

- A role cop

And then I made a mistake… On night 3 Scubacarrot was investigated by the Agents. I completely forgot that the cop of the secret agents was supposed to get an accurate result on the godfather. So I informed them that Scubacarrot was a Townie. I didn’t realize my mistake until we were much further along in the game, and I couldn’t fix my mistake. From then on the Agents mission was doomed to fail. I am terribly sorry for making that huge mistake, but I couldn’t turn it back. And believe me, I’ve thought of every single possibility to make it work, but I couldn’t find one.

The town team consisted of:

- A tracker

- A follower

- A watcher

- A voyeur

- A doctor

- A vigilante

- A commuter

- An affiliation cop

- A hider

- A mason who was also a lover with her child. If her kid died she would die too.

- A vengeful

- A role blocker

- 10 Vanillas

There also was one neutral player, Aiko played by Iamded. She was the survivor but also the serial killer. If her mother was to die she would turn into a serial killer trying to avenge her mothers death.

If you have very urgent questions you need to have an answer to, please post them here, but also send them to me in a pm. I don’t want to read over any questions and I intend to answer them all.

Again: What was the point of Bob's Janitor ability, he could only use it on our night kill, would it not make more sense and have more use if he could use it on the lynch victim, as is usually the case?

Posted

Night 6

Def tried to find out Bobs affiliation, but failed

Why did that fail?

And night 7, I investigated Swils, why did that come back as town if he's always out of temple?

Again: What was the point of Bob's Janitor ability, he could only use it on our night kill, would it not make more sense and have more use if he could use it on the lynch victim, as is usually the case?

The basis Janitor can only use his action on the night target. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a game where a janitor could use his action on the lynch victim.

Why did that fail?

Because Bob was the last remaining scum I wanted him to have a fair chance to still try and win this game. The sixth night he was given the ability to kill (hence the red ninja), the seventh night he also got the ability to block a player. On that night he chose to block Def.

All in all I think I bit of a bit more than I could chew. I’ve hosted the Cirque du Freak mafia game before this game and was sure I was ready for the big stuff. The game I created had an absurd amount of players and a huge lot of night actions. So hosting this game was a bit harder than I could have imagined. When I designed the game I didn’t have a full time job. I’m a substitute teacher and I work at a cinema in the evening hours. Around the time I posted the confirmation & discussion topic, I was offered a full time job at a school for kids with a below average IQ. So I was working about 60 hours a week from then on. As you might have noticed, this sometimes clashed with my Mafia Game schedule.

Why did that fail?

And night 7, I investigated Swils, why did that come back as town if he's always out of temple?

Oh  you are right. I shouldn't have given you that result.

Oh  you are right. I shouldn't have given you that result.

I PM'ed you asking you to double-check that was the right result, and there was no problem

No worries, enjoy your vacation. Even if you work 60 hours a week, the next few months will be a vacation after this

I'm not a fan of one scum getting three night actions in a night, but I won't complain about the end results :sweet:

Well he had 3 because he hadn't used the janitor action. He could use each action twice.

Thanks for letting me play badboy. I enjoyed it, but am annoyed to hear that there were some unfair events. I tried to downplay the roleplaying this time around, compared to Kiolette and Goodenharde.

I'm glad I was able to help the town this time, and I think it was a good-potential end to my Mafia play career. I maybe going into a short retirement soon (although it maybe like one of those CMPOD/Bob retirements, wherein they return the very next game! ), so it was nice to end helpful.

Pie was brought in, and later Flitwick, who was a rational voice when I wasn't feeling rational.

Woo! Glad I did something good!:laugh:

Killing Kiel was actually my idea, and can you really blame me? To be honest, calling out metagaming is one of the most stupid things that seem to be going on here, in my opinion. I must confess to meta-gaming too. Day one, I protected def, being quite confident that somebody would be meta-gamed out. Seeing as Keil joined late, I forgot him as a possibility. Sorry, Kiel.

Posted

Well he had 3 because he hadn't used the janitor action. He could use each action twice.

Generally, if the kill is passed along, it replaces other actions. I expected that, and it caused some confusion about the number of remaining scum. But every host is allowed their prerogatives, and if that is how you established it before the game started, that's all well and good. :classic:

Woo! Glad I did something good!:laugh:

I think you know at this point that I can seem irritable at times, but if I wasn't enjoying myself, I wouldn't play. It's good to be able to vent frustration without too much being made out of it

Thanks for the great game, badboy!

Welcome to Yakuza Family, in this game of wits and strategy you'll be playing:

cimg0576.jpg

Emi – Played by Brickdoctor

Emi was once a very happy woman. She was married to a lovely guy and was carrying his baby. Unfortunately she lost both in a car crash. Emi herself managed to survive the crash, although she was never the same. She adopted a pet lizard called Lizzy and breast fed it. Lizzy grew exponentially and even managed to learn and speak Japanese and English fluently. Emi treats Lizzy as if she is her daughter. She is very protective about her.

You are a Vanilla Townie and have no Night Action what so ever. You win when all the Scum is eliminated.

Also, I need to tell Brickdoctor: Sorry, but... We were wrong (the five voting for you), and unfortunately I realized Bob was the better target too late in the game day. Between Rick and I, the assumption was that you were probably a godfather, for reasons I explicitly stated in thread (vocal without clearly helping). So, I implied you'd be investigated (around day seven) to you in private, but I was never going to do that since I couldn't trust the result. It's a crappy situation, but your (in my opinion) hostility to discussion made you a character I couldn't figure out. One day, our stars will align. One day...

Yeah, I must apologize for my behavior that Day. I was incredibly frustrated that, in my mind, I'd done everything I could do to help, and you were taking it was reason to lynch me, and I was annoyed that you wanted me to compile my own list of actions, because, really, that's not a defense. Anyone can make themselves appear Townie by doing Townie actions, so it's the motive behind them that needs to be exposed, and I thought that I had already defended that in the best possible way. In any case, my behavior that Day really wasn't helpful and was unnecessarily hostile, so I apologize.

On that note, I'm a little disappointed that this turned out to be survivors win, because I had assumed that it was team win, but it is my fault that I got lynched, so I don't really have that much against it, even if I feel that I was more helpful and put more effort into this game than some of the winners.
