Posted March 31, 201212 yr Hello Eurobricks! Johan from Sweden and this is my first post here and I hope you will enjoy it: 10 wide Defender built from off-the shelf bricks, based on "model team 5550". Some bricks could be changed to improve finish but overall I'm pleased with it. Next step is interior and more wheelsnuts ordered from lego yesterday :) Some pictures: Inspiration Fully equiped exterior: "Clean exterior" Stripped: More to come!
March 31, 201212 yr Welcome Johan, and wow, that's some introduction -- looks really brilliant! The one thing I think would make it even more complete would be some side windows to add to its detailed exterior. Great work on getting the proportions right though, I consider that fundamental to any scale build and you've done spot-on there.

Thank you! side windows would be awsome, but as I said- off-the shelf bricks used only :) Proportions was actually number one priority for me. Some things I'm not to happy about is the C-pillars (too thick) and the entire back, not even worth posting pics on the rearview for now been working on the interior in LDD
March 31, 201212 yr Well done. I would not be too concerned with the c pillars or b pillars as with landrovers there are many options of bodystyle and wndows, some even have full panels, my hardtop only has small side windows so your pillars would be correct for representing that. The thing I consider the definitive representation of a series/ defender though is the waistline of the body, maybe you could include that?
March 31, 201212 yr Nice work 'monoton', though model team designs go in the Technic forum....but only a moderator would change it, anyway great work on scaling your vehicle there....I would mount the spare on the roof or on a back door/rear mount so the driver can see more clearly over the bonnet. Welcome too EB as well.......Brick On Drive On 'monoton' !
March 31, 201212 yr To give it a real Defender feel, you need to find bigger headlamps and make the roof white and more defined in it's shape. Cheers Rog
March 31, 201212 yr Author For headlamps I was going to use could only find one from an old technics motorcycle :) To define de waistline i need a 8w window and roof (Right now from Toy Story 7599 Garbage Truck Getaway) or larger wheels to upscale it to 12w. I like the "brittish racing green" roof. A gray grill would be nice and as I said the rear needs serious remodeling, move the square taillights away from the c-pillar adding 3-window layout will not be possible i think but sparewheel will be moved back

I like the green roof too but it would be more instantly recognisable as a Defender with a white roof. Cheers Rog

March 31, 201212 yr I like the rough 'n ready version. It has almost everything it needs, a snorkel and jack would make it pretty much perfect. You did a great job on the vehicle itself, got all the right dimensions and lines.
April 1, 201212 yr I think the design is great, very recognizable. One question, what set is that windscreen from? Brick on.
April 1, 201212 yr Actually a Defender has a body coloured roof, pre-Defender 90/110 had a limestone roof. Actually, Defenders can have either depending on the age and the model. Only more recent County models had a body colour roof as standard. My point was that a white roof would make a LEGO Defender more instantly recognisable as a Land Rover rather than it be mistaken for anything else. Cheers Rog
April 1, 201212 yr Author I think the design is great, very recognizable. One question, what set is that windscreen from? Brick on. Thank you everyone! The windsheild and the "roof tiles" is from My sons 7599 toy story garbage truck :) really cool set! Snorkel on Its way ;)
April 1, 201212 yr I'm not as enthusiastic as some of the other posters in this thread. For instance, the real vehicle does have more of a rear overhang than your model does. In other words, the rear wheel could be mounted one or two studs further forward. I also don't like the bit between the wheels very much -in particular the 8-stud long hole above the yellow plate. I'd suggest putting a brick in there to give it that slab-sided look that the real vehicle has. As for B and C-pillars: indeed there are many different versions of Land Rovers, but the set-up you have, with two side windows, really only fits versions with a shorter wheelbase. Putting one more pillar in there, made with 1x1 bricks for instance, and moving the one that's already there further forward would improve the looks. Beyond that, I agree that have the body waist, as on the real vehicle, would make things better, but this requires half-stud offsets all over the place. It probably means not using that windscreen or building the body of the vehicle 11 studs wide: in other words, a complete rebuild. My own 10-wide Land Rover model (which represents an older Land Rover 109) is ten studs wide with a roof that is nine studs wide. I'm not sure you want to go there. Despite the things I don't like, you have succeeded in building a vehicle that is recognizably a Defender, so kudos to you for that. Cheers, Ralph
April 1, 201212 yr Author Text Cheers, Ralph Helle Ralph! As i Said before i'm using My sons bricks that we had at home in other words this is My only windsheild etc so Waist Would be impossible to build. The 8 brick gap is from the 5550 i started building i Will change that if i find more black bricks ;) The pillars could be changed w/o huge rebuilding. I'm not a fan of the long wheelbase model so i keep the short overhang! Cheers!
April 1, 201212 yr Nice one it looks preety accurate for a 10-wide.Tho only thing I would change is the yellow bits as they seem to stand out too much.
April 2, 201212 yr Author Rearranged the winch New rims wich I didn't now that I had, unfortunately only 4 in white 2 in gray. And of course the requested jack Remodeled rear with old technics sparewheel a lid on the brown box and two new storage boxes New floor plates more to come :)
