Those who could put one together don’t believe there is the interest amongst sci-fi fans and the various artist who would normally by such things.

I don’t know either way, and am not a big believer in “fan” backed drives, but at least the likes of Steve Burg, Ron Thornton, Alec McClymont (and some of the others) at least visit the FB page and will read this thread.

Here’s hoping, especially if they include some of the work done for the likes of Firefly, the nuBSG, Voyager, Enterprise, SG: Atlantis, etc. But I think it stands no chance unless more people hear about it. Hence this post.

Well this might be a little late for the general Scifi market.

However there are many people who think B5 is one of the greatest Scifi series ever.

In many ways it was better than Star Trek and Star Wars....

Unfortunately the Brand seems to have been badly neglected and under exploited by the American TV and movie companies.

Although there have been several past and present gaming products.

Babylon 5 was one of the best Science Fiction shows ever, at least its first four seasons, then the quality of the stories declined :-(

And I don't even want to mention what came afterwards (Crusade anyone?)

While there is no book available some people started very early to "build" the ships using the first 3D modeling programs.

Here a page that is collecting these models. http://www.ultradrive.com/b5_3d_index.htm

But I guess the interest in B5 is pretty much gone. When I look at the Lurker's Guide I can see that the last modifications were done a few years ago

Looks like AM getting old ....

It’s not a joke, I wish it was.

jms has spoken a few times about (B5 related) projects that get presented to him every now and then, but ultimately come to nothing for various reasons. Here’s an example of one - from 2007 - that will be particularly depressing for all the on-line gamers.

The link is to a testing system holding the short article – which will be amongst a pretty hefty update to B5Scrolls, sometime next year – so none of the buttons work on it. ; )

Though that will be taken down in the next day or so. So here’s a more permanent link to the same thing over on the Facebook page set up for the website – and which contains some stunning 3D modelling work (showing cross sections of the station) for another abandoned B5 related project.

Just a FYI type thing. Those hosting the site renewed their agreement last year, so it should stay up for the next two. Plus I just added an update, new interview as well as new production concept art.

The links at the start of this thread still work. ; )

Ooh, sweet memories of benching in front of the TV on Saturday mornings in the mid 90s, watching one or two episodes of B5 and then ringing up a friend on the landline to discuss the latest episodes.

Thank you muchly, Triple F! I'm gonna have a great time reading through your website, especially after I noticed the page links at the top of pages :classic:

Just a FYI type thing for anyone who has downloaded the B5Scrolls website in the past.

ArtSamp22.jpg

The last update is now finished (and included in the downloadable zip file). The final numbers are (and this surprised the bejesus out of me when I actually checked on them).

549 pages covering 18 (sometimes very) revealing and wide ranging interviews with the likes of Ron Thornton and Steve Burg explaining various technical and artistic stuff, along with additional contributions from Syd Mead and Wayne Barlow. Over 100 pieces of production concept art which the ‘guys’ who worked on the show sent over, much of which hasn’t been released before, 143 flash animations showing the ship designs seen on the show, as well as links to some other online B5 content that hardly anyone knew about – Like the Novo Babylonia audio drama which has apparently been kicking around since 2008 (the same year B5Scrolls went up)!

It’s also been downloaded over 50,000 times! (Which is pretty cool : ).

Anyway. Here’s the link to the sites front door (still free, no ads or any other nonsense attached.)

The download page.

And the facebook page set up last year to let folk know about it, when it looked like those hosting the site weren’t going to renew their server agreement. Just in case anyone reading this is unfamiliar with the site.

Hi - this is an awesome resource. I was only a mild fan of the show - I enjoyed the art and the feel of the base - that it had levels that no authority could touch - and the carefully crafted, distinct tone each race had. In so far as space-station dramas, I know this was an important work.

I never quite figured out the larger arc for the story, or why the aliens all had cabbage where their hair should be. I am a simple human being (And couldn't watch much TV at the time this was out).

But the graphics and the ships - that's great forever. Is BFScrolls your site? If so, very impressive work and thanks for sharing -

if not - thanks for sharing all the same - but where's the best place to show thanks - the facebook page?

Deep Space Nine > Babylon 5.

On another note, Babylon 5 has aged a lot worse than DS9. Maybe it was the aged CGI (DS9 actually looks good still) or the music.
