JimBee Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Ah, okay thanks. Hybros, while respecting the ancient dragon, has little patience left for it. It should have realized its doom and fled much earlier. He was ready to finish it, striking it with Zoot's Reaper twice from the front row. Quote

OoC: It says the shield will absorb hits directed at the dragon. I'm pretty sure it will have a free hit. And I have stated my battle order already. OoC: The shield takes damage and health is lowered. I meant that any attacks directed at the dragon will land on the shield instead. The dragon will get free hits. Quote

OoC: So you're saying we'll destroy the shield first and then attack the head in the same round? I see how that can work, it's a decision to make, one safer, one to get the battle done quicker and hopefully less damage, but I can see how it could work. Well, here goes I guess. Quote
JimBee Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Perhaps you should read what had already been said. OoC: The shield takes damage and health is lowered. I meant that any attacks directed at the dragon will land on the shield instead. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Perhaps you should read what had already been said. OoC: Huh? It sounds like the dragon isn't really targetable until the shield is beat. Quote
Xarrzan Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 "I think I can explain," said Singerson while strumming the guitar, "and I'll do it, in song!" The elbow to Singerson's ribs from Guts abruptly ended the singing. "Well that was uncalled for. I've seen this kind of attack before and what the Ancient Dragon is doing is..." explained Singerson. QM Note: The Dragon is targetable. The Shield is targetable. If the entire team targets the shield, the dragon will get a free hit on the first person in battle order. If the team targets the Dragon, any damage dealt will be intercepted by the shield until it is destroyed. Targeting the dragon prevents a free hit but gives a chance to unleash its specials. The choice is yours. "...make sense?" said Singerson. "If you focus on its shield then you get distracted and it can attack you physically. But if you focus on attacking it, it will hide behind its shield and try to cast a spell. I do not know why you would rather me say the words in this MUNDANE manner rather than joyously sing them in a high tenor maybe? Or a low bass." Quote

Hybros' attack against the dragon distracted it in the middle of its spell casting. The dragon lurched backward to allow the shield to intercept the blow of 94 damage, but the dragon dropped a bag filled with 94 gold coins. Hybros missed his next attack at the shield. The shield was flickering into and out of existence, barely hanging on. Guts moved in swiftly to hit the shield for 42 damage. The shield winked from existence. Knifk decided to take the sentinel position to protect the team from all harm the next round. Johon ran past the spot the shield had occupied and scored an extra critical strike against the dragon for 37 damage. Elgar aimed his crossbow at the dragon but it opened its maw and let out a magically enhanced Deafening Roar which caused confusion among the party. Enemies: Ancient Dragon: Type: None (Ancients take no extra damage from any type of gem) Level: 15 Health: 163/200 Special: Special I: Mimic - The dragon mimics the attacker’s special. For damaging specials, dragon does Damage divided by 3. Special II: Spirit Shield- The dragon summons a magical shield that absorbs all attacks until it is defeated. If already summoned either refreshes current shield or does nothing. Special III: Dual Cast - The dragon will use one special this turn and is guaranteed to use one special the next turn(the special is still decided by dice roll). Dual Cast cannot be used in two consecutive turns. If Dual Cast is chosen the next turn then the die will be rolled again. Special IV: Foresee Mistakes - For the next three rounds, any “Miss” by a hero will result in the dragon’s basic attack instead. This includes the Ranger's "AIM" ability but the dragon will receive damage. Special V: Rescind the Light - The dragon casts blindness on all party members for 1 round. Special VI: Deafening Roar - The dragon’s magic enhanced roar causes confusion on all party members for 1 round. QM Note: A roll of "Damage" will unleash Specials 1-3 [determined by a die roll]. JimBee Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 The dragon let out a deafening roar, sending chills up Hybros's spine and disorienting him. It was a fierce creature, and he wondered if it was wise and intelligent as he thought dragons to be. Apparently, even the most awesome of creatures was still just a stubborn beast. Did it deserve the respect it's appearance and legends demanded? Hybros, shaking the thought, attacked the dragon again, from the front row twice. Surely, if he somehow missed and swung at one of his allies, Knifk's shield would protect them. Quote

Hybros fought through his confusion to score a hit of 54 damage against the dragon and follow up quickly with a second attack of 94 damage. Hybros knocked a pouch of 94 coins from the dragon's claw, which it was using in it's spellcasting. Elgar ran forward to aim at the dragon's heart. Guts, in his confused state, leveraged a devastating critical strike against Elgar for 58 damage, but Knifk brought his shield to bear just in time. Knifk slammed Guts in the right direction and Guts finished the Ancient Dragon for 42 damage. The Ancient Dragon sprayed a cone of fire into the air in its death throws. The Ancient Dragon fell to the quarry floor in pain and exhaustion and burned the ice covering its hoard. THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS! Guts gained a level of experience! "You know," said Singerson as he shifted through the treasure, "aren't you a ranger Elgar? I kept wondering why you never tried to talk to the dragon. Don't you have that ability?" The dragon kept one eye slightly open as it watched Singerson shift through its treasure. The dragon then raised its head and opened both eyes. It looked directly at the heroes and said "Hmmm....I as well...was wondering this. I wake up...to find little creatures...invading my home...attempting to steal...my young. I care nothing...for this treasure. It is...only a small...hoard that I...was collecting...for my offspring. My main hoard...is back in...Dastan. I have not...met such rude...individuals...in such a long...time. My children and I...will return to...where we are...from." At that the dragon stood up and screeched. It was hard to tell with the shifting bodies, but it looked like at least twenty Dragonets came running forward and a dozen or so Dragonlings as well. The horde of dragon-creatures all took to the air. The ones that had trouble flying were assisted by others. The Ancient Dragon waited for the young dragons to get a head start before it too launched into the air. The dragons flew until they were pinpoints in the sky. Singerson continued to shift through the hoard, searching for something. Signerson's hands flew up in excitement. "It's here!" As Singerson reached for an item a massive ball of fire slammed into the quarry wall. A bolt of lightning followed shortly after which caused a rain of boudlers the size of wagons to fall toward the hoard. Singerson was still under the effects of his Fastest Flight song and was able to jump away just in time, barely missing being crushed. The remainder of the hoard was barried under tons of rock. There would be no way for the party to gather anything else. Quote
