Scouty Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Captain Redbeared could have...uhm, used his hook to move the sword, I mean, it's plastic...I mean metal. This kind of 3D animation is quite popular, maybe mostly because it's really rare. I think it'd take, posssibly, twice as long to do this with actual legos because: 1. That water 2. actually having to get into the set and moving the people is hard 3. Animation errors/can't go back usually. Basically, this sounds alot easier than stp motion with legos. But you achieve alot more in CG movies, as stop motion movies you are more limited(i.e. gravity) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 11, 2006 Governor Posted November 11, 2006 I contacted the director: > From Mister Phes: >We're quite impressed with the Man O War animation over at the Pirate LEGO >forum (<http://pirates.eurobricks.com/>http://pirates.eurobricks.com) > >I was wondering if you knew any of people responsible because we'd love to >them join conversation we're having about the animation. > Thank you very much! I am the director, but I'm afraid I'm a little too busy right now to join the forum. I'd love to talk about the making of, but I'm on the road and don't have much time. You can read more about it at www.outside-hollywood.com, though. Isaac Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 They've even managed to include a "Wilhelm Scream"Does anybody know those who were involved in this project? Lol... watch it be a Lucasfilm employee. They put that damned scream in every damned movie they do. X D Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 11, 2006 Governor Posted November 11, 2006 Its not soley a Lucasfilm sound effect however, its been used in dozens of movies since the 1950's, including many recents moveis. However, it was revived by Lucasfilm's sound designer Ben Burtt who makes a point of emphasising it more than others sound designers. For example here's a list of recent movies where it has been used to a lesser extend: Madagascar, Fantastic Four, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Get Rich or Die Tryin', Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream Way too many movies. A mind-boggling amount. Quote
El Bucanero Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 That is.... BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!! Since I had no time when I was typing this, I will finish my comment now.... The ships, they look very good but the masts are too short... The animition is really brilliant, I wish I could make a video like that! Quote
Jacob C. Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Hey, excellent video find! I probably never would have seen it if you guys hadn't posted it on the front page. I was hoping the pirates would win though. :-( I loved the animation. I hope to see more videos like this in the future! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 11, 2006 Governor Posted November 11, 2006 W00t! Front page! Yep! Since we don't expect to receive news of upcoming official Pirate LEGO sets we put the really good unofficial stuff on the front page instead. And the reason is in the quote below: Hey, excellent video find!I probably never would have seen it if you guys hadn't posted it on the front page. I was hoping the pirates would win though. :-( You're as bad as Captain Roger! The user here, not the mini-figure/character! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted November 11, 2006 Eurobricks Emperor Posted November 11, 2006 It would be fantastic if we (people from the pirate forum) could make such a movie with our own story. But I guess this would probably be to difficult/time consuming ? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 11, 2006 Governor Posted November 11, 2006 If it wasn't difficult and time consuming EVERYONE would be doing it! The first question you'd be asking: Who has 3D animation skills that good? Or who has any 3D animation at all? Quote
Kahgarak Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Oh my god.I read in the credits that this guy did it with LDraw. This film rocks! Quote
Wobo Ihi Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I was hoping the pirates would win though. :-( *Cough* Me too. *Cough* Oh well. Great movie, I like the brick water. Quote
Chuck Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 If you want to see the pirates win, go see PotC :P -l2k- Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 12, 2006 Governor Posted November 12, 2006 The Pirates don't win in Pirates of the Caribbean though... Quote
Chuck Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 The Pirates don't win in Pirates of the Caribbean though... But the navy British don't either ;-) -l2k- Quote
El Bucanero Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 The Pirates don't win in Pirates of the Caribbean though... They don't? I think they do, Jack Sparrow manages to escape and gets his beloved Pearl back: win. But I don't know who wins in DMC....Are it the pirates? are the pirates fish-like or is Jack Sparrow and his gang the pirates?? Or does the Beckett guy wins because he has the flub-flub? Quote
Governor Broadside Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 ...he has the flub-flub? I thought he called it the thump-thump. :-D Quote
Scouty Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 He said that in the movie? I need to see it again, only once did I see it. Oh yeah, I wan to add....I really, reaaaally like the music here *pirate* Quote
Governor Broadside Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 When he runs down to the spilled dirt and looks for the heart, that's when he says it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ03pFBgFbw (last couple of seconds of the video) Quote
Col. Whipstick Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 That was a brilliantly animated film and I can see how that took as long as it did. Has everyone here done a search on youtube.com for all the other lego pirate films? Most of them are pretty poor but this is the link for another one that I thought was really good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROqIsKHaWaw The video features the Pirates Of The Carribean soundtrack and this guy used celephane, clingfilm for the waves. Looks really cool. *y* Quote

Scouty Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I've seen it before...it was OK besides quality. Celfane is a good idea, but i'm not to fond of using it because it's difficult to hand, place, and looks good but at the cost of having to moving it for reality. Quote
Sir Kohran Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I liked how everything in the world was made of Lego, like the crew using fire pieces to light the cannons - right down to the waves lapping with transparent and white bricks. Also, the figs were smoothly animated, even in the crowd fight scenes, and were also accurate to the sets. My only complaint is that the good guys were Imperial Soldiers and not Imperial Guards...*selfish fanboy nit-picking* Quote
