Waterbrick Down Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 "Thank you my son, here take this for your Party for your trouble," the halfling hands Bartholomew a Soma and walks off into the crowd. Soma – Causes the blessed-effect, allowing the target to recover 3 health at the end of each round for the duration of one battle. Party Leader, who shall receive the druid's gift. Match-ups thus far: Bartholomew Docken, Level 21 Warden (Brick Doctor) *Party Leader* *Scary* Gold: 5 (50 Gold loaned to Arthur Justus Regulus VII [Flipz]) Inventory: Briar Bow (WP: 9; Wood Elemental), Mockthril Longbow (WP: 5) vs. The Mopagian master of the Crossbow, Billy Tolde & En Sabah Nur, Level 16.5 Sorcerer (Jebediahs) *Lucky* Gold: 318 Inventory: Loaded Die (Lucky effect) En, Sabah, Nur (Shurikens 3/3, WP: 5) vs. Orc Ranger and current underdog, the Maa'ri Ranger Boomingham wanders around the grounds aspying at least 3 of the contestants, an orc with a hound nearby, an individual that resembled more of a walking carpet than a person, and a pale faced man with a crossbow. Boomingham finds himself on the other side of the fence standing next to a rather crafty looking individual fondling a filleting knife. "Quite a show right?"
Zepher Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) Boomingham smiles. "Damn straight it is. You know, I've heard some good things about that Billy Tolde. What do you say we make this first round interesting with a little bet?" Boomingham leans in. "I'm a paladin, so I'm naturally giving, you know? Even though the odds are clearly in favor of Billy, how about we make a little deal. I'll put down 7 gold that... Docker chap, and you can throw down 13 gold on Billy, making it a round 20, and whoever wins takes it all! I'll probably end up without a coin to my name, but Barty here wants me to lead a pious life anyway!" Boomingham turns to Barty and whispers. "Do me a favor, would you? Tell Nur to loan his loaded die to Docken. Ask him to do it as a personal favor. If he won't do that, work it out with Docken that he gets a 3rd of the prize money or something. We're going to win this." "I wouldn't usually condone tricking people out of money, but anyone willing to gamble has already thrown their soul away." Barty zips off to suggest the plan to the others. Boomingham turns back to his new friend. "My angel and I are on better terms ever since I tried to beat up a drunk man. I'm a little confused by his priorities. He's a pest, and pretentious, and doesn't like me very much. Oh well. So, what do you say?" Edited May 4, 2012 by Zepher
Waterbrick Down Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 "A bettin' Paladin, that's a new one. The Mopagian out shot everybody in the apple contest yesterday, so I don't mind a little wager. Done, I'll put 13 gold on Billy, though if I find out ya can't pay, let's just say ya'll have a little trouble holdin' on to that sword of yers without fingers." The sharkling produced 13 gold, all the while continuing to play with his filleting knife.
Zepher Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 "I'm good on my word, if nothing else, though it seems a large number of people in this city aren't. Have you had any run-ins with the Wolfgang? Name is Lord Lawrence Boomingham, by the way! Who do I have the pleasure of making the acquaintance of?"
Brickdoctor Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I'll keep the Soma for myself, for now. I walk over and shake Billy's hand. "Pleased to meet you, Master Tolde. Bartholomew Docken."
Scorpiox Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 "I've never shot an arrow before, let alone hit anything. So I'll just be watching this one. Maybe you should try this Jess, you have a hidden talent for many things."Haldor saw Nur's contestant, and he swore that he knew that Maa'ri Ranger from somewhere, but he couldn't quite put his finger on where. He walks over to him."Have we met, Mister? You look, familiar."

Have you had any run-ins with the Wolfgang? Name is Lord Lawrence Boomingham, by the way! Who do I have the pleasure of making the acquaintance of?" "Gurnam, fishmonger. I own a small stand down by the docks. The Wolfgang is always workin' the streets these days, to the point ya don't know who's the victim you or the person yer shellin' out charity to. If ya look at 'em hard enough though you can generally tell the difference." I'll keep the Soma for myself, for now. I walk over and shake Billy's hand. "Pleased to meet you, Master Tolde. He walks over to him."Have we met, Mister? You look, familiar." "Yes, we had the unfortunate experience of meeting in the gnomes lawn. Now if you'll excuse me I've got a purse to win." The orc obviously not in a talking mood, walks to the challenger's row to inspect his arrows as his hound follows closely behind.
Brickdoctor Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 "Good day to you as well sir. I hope you know how to use that longbow of yours." "I can't even pretend to be an expert, but I have a decent amount of skill with it for a hero. My forté is my skill with my shield."

You seem to have money to throw away on gambles with poor Paladins! Got any good investments going on right now?"
Waterbrick Down Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 "Well, ya know a shark can't make a decent livin' just sellin' second-hand seafood. I've got a few investments, one just blew up on me though. Concernin' the Wolfgang, ya just got to know what buttons to push, besides they're easy to spot a mile away. Say, ya seem like a reasonable chap, I've got a few wares ya might be interested in, just so long as the little fella with wings keeps his nose out of 'em." QM Note: I'll give Sisco another 12 hours to decide whether or not to enter the competition.
Sisco Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Whoops, sorry. "I think I'll let my questmates achieve the fame and glory of the competition. It's best if my name doesn't become extremely well known amongst archers."

I am a Paladin, if you need some to carp to, my ears are obligated to be opened. I understand what it's like to lose money on something you thought would work out, it happens to me all the time. As for your goods... well, as you know, I only have 7 gold to my name. Maybe if you lose our bet, I'll be able to buy something... but that seems unlikely. Maybe I could pay you back later - I'm a Paladin and a King, so my word is good."
Waterbrick Down Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 "I've got the money to spare, shame though, sounded like the gnome was on to somethin... Well if ya've only got 7 gold to spare, then I'm just the shaklin' you need to see." Gurnam fished out a tiny piece of cloth with a list of his service written out upon it. Services and Wares Available:Upgrade to Poison Blade: Gurnam will permanently instill a poison effect onto an individual’s weapon. Costs 80 Gold and 1 venom Venom: Use on a weapon to make it cause a poisoned-effect on an enemy it hits for the duration of one battle. A poisoned enemy loses 1 health each turn. Costs 5 Gold Deadly Venom: Use on a weapon to make it cause a deadly poisoned-effect on an enemy it hits for the duration of one battle. A poisoned enemy loses 10 health each turn. Costs 45 Gold Short Loan: Gurnam will loan an amount of money at 25% interest, up to 200 gold for the entirety of the quest. The individuals must repay him by the end of the quest or be forced to sacrifice their inventory to make up the difference, though if the party fails, they will only have to give up any items they bought during the quest.
Sisco Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 "I'd like the poison effect on Blohdhurm, please." Jess forked over the 80 gold and venom to the vendor.
Waterbrick Down Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 (edited) "Let the tournament begin!" Round 1: Bartholomew Docken vs. Billy Tolde Docken: Cut Paper, Bull's-eye, Bull's-eye = 2+3+3= 8 Winner! Tolde: Miss, Hit the Target, Miss = 0+1+0 = 1 En Sabah Nur vs. Maa'ri Ranger Nur: Miss Miss, Miss Miss, Miss Miss = 0+0+0= 0 Ranger: Miss, Miss, Miss = 0+0+0= 0 Tie Breaker Nur: Hit Target Miss = 1 Ranger: Cut Paper = 2 Winner! The first round of the tournament kicks off, Docken pulls back and lets fly, cutting paper but barely missing the bull's-eye. Readjusting from his first shot, he fires his second and third arrow rapidly sinking both into the center of the target for two Bull's-eyes. Tolde, not expecting such a performance by the one-eyed warden takes aim at his target, but is too shook up from the impressive display he just witnessed and only manages to hit the target once. Nur eyes the orc before taking his stance at the firing line. Confident and as cool as ever Nur produces his three shurikens and then proceeds to miss the target with every one of them. The orc unimpressed by the mage aims down range but also fails to hit the target. A single shot round is then taken to determine the winner. Nur focuses his concentration upon his shuriken and amazingly hits the target. The orc ranger however, not to be out done, fires off an arrow that cuts the paper of the target securing him the victory of the first round. QM Note: Round 2 will begin in 24hr. Feel free to interact with the crowd or the archers in the interem. "Pleased to do business with ya mam. And I believe I owe you sir 13 Gold." The Sharkling hands Boomingham 13 Gold and then ducks behind the crowd for a moment before finally returning with Blohdhurm which now seems to be coated in a slight shimmering coat of green along the blade. Jebediahs Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 (edited) "Welp, that's it for me." The mage grinned and nodded to the orc before going off to find Haldor, in search of a heal. EDIT: Nur almost bumped into the rockling (in the Wetnose picture). "Enjoying the competition? I haven't seen many rocklings in my travels. Is the rockling community well established here in Eubric? Zepher Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 "Excuse me, thank you for the bet, I'd love to go another round if you'd like to," Boomingham says to Gurnam before sidling up to Nur. "Give Docken your lucky die!" Boomingham hisses to the mage.
Jebediahs Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 En Sabah Nur looked quizzically at Boomingham. He pulled out his die. "You mean this? It's just something I picked up from a corpse. How did you know that I have it and why would I give it to Docken? Does it do something special?"
Waterbrick Down Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 (edited) "Do you take me for a fool Paladin? That Warden nearly sank 3 Bull's-eyes in a row. Sorry mate, no bet here. If you're in need of money perhaps I could interest you in a short loan?" Edited May 6, 2012 by Waterbrick Down
Scorpiox Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Haldor cheers at Docken's show of skill, and sighs at Nur's loss. He vaults the fence to walk over to the Mage. "Hard luck there comrade, still he did have a major advantage of being armed with a bow." Haldor places his hand on Nur's shoulder, and heals his wounds, he then heals himself as well, in total costing 2 ether. Haldor then notices that Boomingham was in conversation with a Sharkling, who was casually twirling a lethal looking knife. "Hello Mister, you wouldn't happen to be the reknowned Gurnam would you? If you are free, there is something we need to talk to you about."
Zepher Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 "I don't know..." admits Boomingham, rubbing his head sadly. "I have a killer headache," he grumbles. "Give it to Docken, as a personal favor to us," Barty begs. "Also, please go clean up Haldor's mistake. He luckily doesn't have your abilities for deceit." Boomingham makes his way over to Haldor and Gurnam. "Haldor, this is indeed Gurnam, though he has already offered his wares. I assume that's all you wanted to talk to him about, unless you want to join our conversation? He was just telling me about the life of a Sharkling with some gold to spare. Tell Haldor about that investment you were telling me about? The one that just blew up? Who else was smart enough to join up with you on that? I assume if you invested in it, it must have been a good investment!"
Jebediahs Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 "Well if you really think it'll help him..." Still puzzled, Nur shrugged and quickly sought out Docken. He handed him his loaded die before the next round of the competition began.
Waterbrick Down Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 QM Note: I'll leave the decision to Brickdoctor if Docken accepts the die. "There were a few insects a, a minotaur was in on it too, I was mindin' my own business one day when I found a package on my stall counter addressed to me. Bein' used to such things, I opened her up and believe me you when I say there was over 10,000 gold in there and a note tellin' me to invest the money in this gnome Mr. Szalinski and that I could take 10% of the cut fer my trouble. I was in for holdin' on to the entire sum myself, but after one week of holdin' on to it I woke up with a jar of "Shark Fin Soup" on my stall's counter and thought better of that decision. That's when I went to invest with the gnome. I'd been getting 500 gold every 2 weeks after that, until the machine blew up that is."
Waterbrick Down Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 "Let the second round begin!" Round 2: Bartholomew Docken vs. Maa'ri Ranger Docken: Cut Paper Miss, Hit the Target Cut Paper, Bull's-eye Cut Paper = 2+2+3= 7 Winner! Ranger: Hit the Target, Bull's-eye, Miss = 1+3+0 = 4 The second round of the tournament begins and Docken is in prime form, cutting paper twice and nailing a bull's-eye with his final shot. The orc ranger glances down at his hound, nods, and then slowly draws his first arrow. Twang! An arrow rests in the target. The ranger draws back on his second. Wooshhh! An arrow sprouts from the center of the target, a bull's-eye! The crowd falls into a hush as the ranger prepares to loose his final shot, he glances at the crowd, at Docken, at his hound and then nudges the arrow. Twang! The arrow flies down range, the crowd's every eye fixed upon it. A miss! The crowd cheers as they come and surround the one-eyed Warden. The orc quietly collects his things and slips out, his hound following loyally behind. "Well done my good fellow, well done indeed!
