Haldor looked baffled by the constant stream of technical vocabulary from the older man."Um, ok. Yeah, so anyone with the knowledge, oppertunity and motive could have done it?"

"Do the deed, yes, but I have no idea why. Szalinski and I were about to make magic accessible to all, from the wood-chopper to the bar maid. Only backwards thinking mages who wish to keep their arcane power cloaked in mysticism and darkness would stand against such ease of living and quality of life progress."

Jess grinned as she finally sunk Blodhurm into the beastly rug's sweet spot.

Her grin only intensified as she accepted her gold.

OoC: My power should be 27.

Hm, perhaps an inside job. "If the accident was indeed a result of sabotage and not attributed to the frailty of the machine, do you have items to aid us in the search for the saboteur?" Nur rudely rifles through Bluehood's office. He briefly inspects 'Hood's staff, peers under the golden helm and pokes the golden spear. "Any specialty weapons for us? Where did you acquire this strange plant?" Nur attempts to open the chest. "Do the alchemical batteries leave any residue behind handled? Perhaps you have a device in here to detect machine byproduct."

Nur rudely rifles through Bluehood's office.

Nur's search earns him a disapproving look from his companions. The staff is found to be tipped with a flawless Aquamarine while the helm and spear appear to be from an ancient time period indicated by their markings. Opening the chest, Nur finds a collection of lamps similar to the one on Balthazar's desk, Nur secrets one away and closes the chest.

"Weapons, do I look like a blacksmith? Those are merely relics from the Orcish Wars, collectibles at best. The plant is a potted miniature mantrap from my son-in-law an herbamancer who lives near the Kalma Marshlands. As far as a machine for detecting, you would be better served talking to an inventor or an engineer rather than a hydromancer."

"Just to be clear, Master Swisshopper and Gurnam provided funds as venture capital, not as loans, correct?"

"Correct. As I said, Master Swisshopper is something of an entrepreneur and Gurnam well, he said something about turning over a new leaf or another. We have practically garnered support from all greatest and brightest within Eubric including the houses excluding the Ziegfrieds that is."

"The Ziegfrieds obviously didn't back the machine because they want to keep magic for themselves. I can see why they would have wanted to destroy the contraption. Is it possible that one of them got near enough to the machine to sabotage it?"

Posted

6894110392_d9327d08af_m.jpg

"Anything is possible, most of us were intent upon Szalinski during his demonstration, though I did make sure none of the Ziegfrieds were on the guest list anyways, we've shared some unpleasantries in the past you might say."

Posted

"Did Master Sem ever have any serious disagreements with you or have reason to want you to be, say, arrested?"

"Sem? Oh you must mean Tarnash, not unless he wished us to default on our loan," Balthazar chuckled. "Tarnash works for one of the more refined lending institutions in Eubric, we haggled over interest amounts for a week or so but he had us in a tight place so we eventually conceeded to his opinion in the matter."

Posted

"Could anyone, say a spell-flinger (Ziegfried) or a hired saboteur, have found their way to the machine a few days before the demonstration? How tight was the security in the past week? Haldor stands silently for a moment, before speaking again and fondling the diamond. May Thoric guide us to justice."

"The machine had been setup the morning of the demonstration and either myself, Szalinski, or one of the other scientists was always there. The machine had been stored at Szalinski's place and I established the detection wards myself. I may be something of a rejected hydromancer, but I can still pull off a reasonable alert spell now and then."

Boomingham's eyes glaze over as the mage talks. "I don't think I like science any better than I like magic or the gods," he grumbles. "Are we done here? This man isn't smart enough to not get eaten by his rug, nevermind the fact that he has a rug that can eat him. I doubt he would be able to destroy this machine. I think we ought to go visit those other two inventors. They're in an inn, which means that they could fly town. I say we stop them before they get to do that."

Hm, I wonder what this does. Nur pocketed the lamp. He looked at Balthazar from the corner of his eye at the mention of Swifthorn. There had been a horned chap in the crowd earlier. We might be headin' close to that haunted school next.

"Wait who might the other scientists be who worked on this project? Forgive me if I missed it, the battle was quite taxing on my mental faculties." Nur offered a disarming grin as he concluded his search and returned to his questmates.

"Doctors Fahad and Falish Jiivni are staying at the Inn of the Winking Gargoyle, if that's what you're asking."

"Yes the two chaps, or chapesses, or whatever they may be, hail from Carthago and are Lucustoids. They're a bit hard on the dialect and they have a few eccentricities given their race, but they are some of the brightest minds from that part of the world."

Haldor nudges Boomingham."He was the one who told us how it could be destroyed, so I would think that he is 'smart enough'.

"I think this is all, thank you for your time Mister Bluehood. Maybe you should dispose of the carniverous furniture.

Shall we leave for this tavern then?"

The Party heads for the Inn of the winking Gargoyle. They arrive outside the inn which sits right across from the Eubrician cemetery. The building is somewhat dilapidated and the door is adorned with a grotesque statue of a squinting stone beast. It becomes apparent that the inn has been reserved for those visitors of Eubric not belonging to what some may term the majority races. Upon entering the inn, the Party is hailed by a pair of werehounds in professional attire, one working behind the bar and one serving a group of guests across the hall.

What would the Party like to do?

Haldor approaches the two Werehounds and introduces himself. "Hello friends, I am Haldor and these are my friends Nur, Lawrence, Bartholemew and the light Jess. We are looking for Misters Fahad and Falish Jiivni, have you any knowledge of these fellows staying at this establishemt?"

Posted

The ogre gave Nur pause as he hadn't seen any in Eubric other than Skrall. He gave a quick glance at Boomingham to gauge his reaction then simply nodded when Haldor mentioned his name.

Posted

"Don't allow me near the Ogre. I'm not fool-hardy, but I will be shortly, and he could snap my bones. I've fought worse than him... but I may be out of practice."

Boomingham walks over to the bar and holds up four fingers. When his four drinks arrive, he slides one over to the blue clad man next to him and downs two of them before beginning to nurse his third.

"Tell me about yourself. Name, business in Eubric. Any rumors you've heard recently pertaining to machines?"

Jess walked over to the table with the elf.

"Hello, friend. Beautiful day, eh? How about a shot on me?"

Jess spends five gold to but the elf a shot if he agrees.

"Why yes I do my good sirs, mam. They have been staying with us these past six days. Are you in need of lodging for the evening? My brother Billian and I would be more than happy to put you up in one of the rooms, our rates may be cheap but our service is grand."

"Roland Ergthew, sailor by trade currently mendin' from an old sea mauling and this place be the only one cheap enough to put me up. Horrible place though, orcs, ogres, they don't even deserve to be indoors much less sleeping around civilized beings. If your talking about the expo, I've seen the posters all over town that were advertisin' the event. Rumor has it some of those fancy pancy scientists are stayin' in this very inn, makes sense if their Lucustoids."

Jess walked over to the table with the elf.

"Good evening to you and your companions, I would indeed enjoy a drink, but please allow me to buy one for such a beautiful flower as yourself." The elf gave a charming grin quickly returning with two chalices of wine. "Allow me to introduce myself and the rest of the table. I am Brother Silent, elven monk on a journey from Dastan, my companion the half-troll" Brother Silent indicated the half-troll in the cloak, "is Igmund a shaman from that area as well. Igmund and I are journeying to Ennon with our friend Raphael the halfling druid, you haven't happened to see the tiny chap have you?" Brother Silent took a sip from his wine before stopping abruptly, "Oh where are my manners, this rose of an ogress is Irksall, she just arrived this morning from Ennon. Now what brings you and your companions here, looking for lodgings are you?"

"You seem to have a smart head on your shoulders, Roland. Can you tell me a thing or two about Lucustoids? 'Fraid I haven't run into them yet in my travels."

"Thank you, Brother Silent," Jess said. Turning to his companions, Jess said "Hello Igmund. Irksall." Jess nodded to each in turn.

"We're actually looking for some people. Have you happened to have seen Doctors Fahad and Falish Jiivni? My companions and I would love to have a... Conversation with them."
