"You seem to have a smart head on your shoulders, Roland. Can you tell me a thing or two about Lucustoids? 'Fraid I haven't run into them yet in my travels."

"Not much to tell, I think they come from across the sea from some desert land. If you'd seen one ya wouldn't have forgotten it, they're like giant locusts they are, always twitchin' and clickin', it gives me the willigers. I've heard they're known to skin a grown man alive and feast upon it like a crepe. Hey you seem like a reasonable chap, ya think you could lend me enough to stay in one of those fancier if hopefully safer inns up the street? I'd pay ya back, I've got a friend comin' in on a ship tomorrow from a venture that he's cuttin' me in on. Just tell me where and when and I'll get you the gold."

Boomingham examines his own measly coin purse, and then walks over to Jess, who has an astoundingly larger amount of money than him. He holds up a hand to the occupants of the table, and is careful not to make eye contact with the ogre.

"Say, Jess, do you want to do me a favor? Could I bury fifty gold until the end of the quest? I'll pay it right on back to you as soon as the reward money trickles in."

Boomingham quietly hopes that will be enough. He calls back to Roland. "How much were you thinking, chappo?"

Jess accepted the wine, and took a sip.

"Thank you, Brother Silent," Jess said. Turning to his companions, Jess said "Hello Igmund. Irksall." Jess nodded to each in turn.

"We're actually looking for some people. Have you happened to have seen Doctors Fahad and Falish Jiivni? My companions and I would love to have a... Conversation with them."

"Ah yes, we had good talk with locustmen about clerics' healing power earlier. They staying in room upstairs, they come home for evening and sleep till noon generally. Raphael and I talk with them over lunch, before he go out to bow and arrow tournament."

"Oh I'd say 50 Gold would do me fine. What was you're name by the way sir knight?"

Jess sized Boomingham up.

"Fine. Here you go."

Jess forked over fifty gold.

Jess then turned back to the occupants of her table, and took another sip of her wine.

"Thank you, darling," Boomingham beams, and then leans in and whispers: "If Haldor wasn't here I'd give you a nice sloppy thank you kiss." He winks at the elf and saunters off. Barty turns on her. "Don't encourage him," he admonishes before darting after his ever hopeless case.

Boomingham hands the gold off. "I was hoping to slip some of this into my own pocket, but if fifty gold is what you need, fifty gold is what you get. My name is King Lawrence Boomingham, General during the Orcish Wars, decorated for bravery on three separate occasions." Boomingham leans in and hisses. "So don't cross me." He then roars laughter in poor Roland's ear and sags back into his bar chair. "Just joking, you seem like a nice enough chap. Send the funds to Heroica hall, I'm sure there are plenty of people there who will look after them for me if I'm not back in time."

As Nur returned from relieving himself, he hung back in the corridor a moment to listen to the conversations going on. Ennon...? Didn't Skrall say he was from there? I'm not too big on ogre naming conventions but Irksall sounds an awful lot like Skrall to me.

[Release me.] What the ...? "Jess, Boomingham, who are your new friends?" After the pleasantries concluded, Nur joined in the discussion. "Aye, tell us more about the competition. Are any of you competing?" As he talked Nur made his way to the ogress. "Say madam, you wouldn't happen to know an ogre named Skrall would ye? Light skinned, overly polite, and carries-er, carried a bow made of bones?"

"Tis great anual archery tournament where all best shots in land supposedly compete for fame and prizes. Anyone is able to enter, but those with a ranger's backround will have an advantage."

"You and your companions should look into it, I'm sure such a handsome lass like yourself has had some experience in that realm. Tell you what, you give it a visit and see if you can spot our friend Raphael and check up on him for us. We'll throw in a few special drinks for your trouble while you're at it."

"My a king, I'd never thought to see such a noble chap as yourself in here. Just wait till I tell my mate I met a real king. I'll make sure ya get what's your share your majesty." With that the gentleman strolled off into the street.

"Nay none of us have any skill with a bow. Raphael may be plannin' on enterin' but he's more of a collector; a Cleric first, a Ranger second. They say there's a good purse to be gained by the winner, not to mention an official "Marksman's Hat"."

Jess listened as her new friends spoke.

"I'm alright with a bow, but nowhere near my companion, Master Docken over there. Oi! Docken! Get your megablocks over here, this could interest you."

"Well I'll be...wonders will never cease." Nur shook his head in disbelief. "Spittin' image you are, lass kind of . Your father and I started our Heroica careers together. Good man." Nur was unsure of the status of the relationship the girl had with her father so he offered a change in subject. "How did you come by joining up with these gentlemen?"

"Mum sent me to see what the old sop was up to. He hadn't sent any gold back in 3 months and things were getting a bit tight and we hadn't heard anything from the collectors either. This inn's one of the only one that lets our race stay indoors, Igmund and Brother Silent were kind enough to buy me dinner. So do you have any idea where I could find him?" Nur perceives a hint of regret but mostly disdain in the ogress's voice.

I join Jess at the table.

"An archery tournament? Sounds right up my alley. When does this take place? As much as I would like to win something for my marksmanship, we do have a quest to complete."

Overhearing the conversation, I interject a comment.

"Last I heard, Skrall was leading a party over in Dastan. Something about rebellious Lion Knights."

"That is the most amazing thing about it my friend, the tournament is being held for 3 straight days and nights, with different competitions going on at any point during the day. I'm sure you or your lovely lady friend might have a chance of winning it, though your other companions are free to enter as well.."

"I should have known the old sop would skip town, if he saw any of the collectors hangin' around."

Nur forced a smile for his friend's child before turning to Brother Silent. "There wouldn't happen to be a throwing weapon competition perchance?"

Haldor looked up at the Ogress."Your father is a great friend of mine, last time I saw him he was fine. He spoke of home once or twice. As my friend said, I believe that he is far away now, but he'll probably be returning in a few months." Haldor walked over the the side table, and turned toward the Elf, in discussion with Jess."An archery competition? I've never fired a bow in my life, but I guess it can't be that hard. Bartholemew I'm sure will put up a very good challenge for all of us. Have you been aquainted with Jess? She puts up with Haldor, and she probably has a hidden talent for archery, like with many things. Sorry, I didn't catch your name. I am the Nord Haldor Skovgaard." Haldor sat on a chair next to Jess, and waved for some mead to be brought around."Have you heard anything recently about the gnome Szalinski?"

"Well met my good nord. I am Brother Silent and this is my companion Igmund and you seem to have met Ms. Irksall. I'm unclear whether they will be having a throwing weapon competition or not, but I do know that there are generally bows and arrows aplenty at such events and you shouldn't have any trouble borrowing a set for the competition. It's being held just outside the northern gate near the barracks of the Town Watch, I believe something was said about it being sponsored by the Hinckwell family. As to a Mr. Szalinski, my companions and I heard mention of that name in our conversations with the Lucustoids earlier, he's some sort of inventor no?"

Boomingham stumbles over. He still is overly careful as not to make eye contact with the Ogre.

"Are we done here? I doubt they know anything. Let's go see who we're here to see."

Boomingham turns to the werehounds. "Pleasssse go tell your, erm, distinguisheshed guests that Boomingham, erm, no, that a group are here to see them. The Lucky Toids or whatever they may be, them. Tell them that Lord Boomingham would like to have a word with them, and tell them no funny business!" Boomingham leans on Haldor and Nur for support and rubs his forehead. "I'll be at the bar," he says before staggering back to it.

"My good sir we are inn keepers not lackeys, you are free to visit the gentlemen upstairs. Though you may have to inquire at a few doors as I am unsure which room they took, being as they arrived when the inn was empty. You'll have to knock pretty hard or actually go in to see them, Lucustoids go into a temporary hibernation when they sleep."

"I'm ready," Jess said to Docken.

Turning to her new friends at the table, Jess said "Pleasure meeting you folks. Especially you, Brother Silent." Jess got up with a wink, and walked upstairs.

"You as well fair maiden, let me know if you decide to go to the tournament and my companion and I will see to it that you are compensated should you find our Raphael."

The heroes trek up the creaking stairs.

At the top, the Party finds a row of doors, three before them and one behind, marked crudely 1-4 starting at the farthest door.

What would the Party like to do?

Posted

"Hm. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to finding them, so I say we should start with the one behind us and work our way up."

"We could cover more ground. Many hands make light work," Boomingham suggests before walking over to the second door and banging loudly. "Hello in there! We have free drinks for Doctor Jiivni!! Is he in there?! Hello!!!"

Posted (edited)

Docken approaches the first door, but there is no reply to his knocking and the door is locked.

Boomingham's enquiry at the second door yields what sounds like a quiet scuffle inside before the door is opened by a shirtless man.

Boomingham peeks his head into the room to try to see the lady inside. "Were you having a little bit of an issue with this little gal? Maybe we should take her off your hands."
