purpleparadox Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I probably won't be getting these now. The only parts that are appealing to me are the accessories and hairpieces, so that doesn't really make the cost worth it. Ya never know though, maybe the accessories and hair will show up on Bricklink for cheap! @purplepeopleeater: Your username is scaring me a little bit! Quote
escortmad79 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Before going to WHSmiths I went to John Lewis who didn't have any on display. When I asked if they were selling the figures yet the lady told me that LEGO had placed an embargo on them selling the figures before July 1st. I was told that won't be available until Sunday when I phoned Edinburgh John Lewis too! Really annoying!! Quote
Jason8 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 They were on sale at WHS Norwich yesterday (28th June) quite openly, with a sizeable queue. Quote
escortmad79 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 On sale in my local WHS too but refuse point blank to pay the 50p per figure mark up!! Quote
The Joker1 Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Hi Does anyone know roughly what the weight of a full box of these is. Or if not does anyone know wht an average box of CMs weighs (all 60) Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Have managed to get hold of a set at local WH Smith yesterday, shame about the extra cost involved but then I did get to feel them, so I guess it could still be cheaper in the long run than buying total random ones. They still have not got them in my local Toy shop. Apparently they are not getting them as they feel it would be hard to sell that many and do not want to have to put the price up (Like WH Smith.) as the manager told me today the Team GB Mini-figs would cost more for them to get than the normal Collectable mini-figs due to a cut having to go the Team GB/Olympic organisers. Not sure how true that is, but apparently that is why they are not being stocked so wide spread. It does seem a pity to have printed bases. I am usually a fan of print as opposed to stickers, but I think in this case it may have been better the other way round as the bases are not a lot of use for anything else as they are. Whilst I find it quite easy to feel my way through a set of normal mini-figs I have to say I found these quite hard going as not all of them have accessories and one printed body feels much the same as another. Still managed to get a full set with only four duplicates. From feeling through a box looking it appears that the boxer is quite hard to find, ether that or they had been pulled out by earlier customers. Quote
Graysmith Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 (edited) Hi Does anyone know roughly what the weight of a full box of these is. Or if not does anyone know wht an average box of CMs weighs (all 60) Bricklink generally has information about weight. A box of CMF Series 7 weighs 927 grams according to them. Other CMF boxes range around 900 grams as well. I would imagine a box of these Team GB figs probably weighs a bit less than the average CMF box since these figures have fewer and smaller accessories, so say somewhere around 800-900 grams. bricklayer7 Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 It seems like each shop has only been given one box each. i went to smyths toys in liverpool and they had sold out, so i went to one in st.helens and they had 40 minifigs left so i bought all of them for £1.99 each. i ended up with 4 full sets and i went to w.h smiths today and got a couple to make up the 5th. smiths had them as £2.49 each but they give you a 50p off your next minifig sale coupon. also as of monday if you spend £15 or more you get a free £5 coupon for minifigs. Darkblane Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Whilst I find it quite easy to feel my way through a set of normal mini-figs I have to say I found these quite hard going as not all of them have accessories and one printed body feels much the same as another. Still managed to get a full set with only four duplicates. From feeling through a box looking it appears that the boxer is quite hard to find, ether that or they had been pulled out by earlier customers. Having just felt my way through 47 packets, most of the minifigs aren't too bad to find, once you know what to look for. Tennis Player The tennis racket. Gymnast 1 x 1 bricks or 1 x 4 plate. Horse Rider The helmet is made of a different softer plastic and has a long ponytail. Archer The bow. Relay Runner The bar and the hair (it's spiky). Check for the hair (or lack of weights) if you find a bar, so you don't get this confused with the weightlifter. Weightlifter The bar and the weights. Check for the weights if you find a bar, so you don't get this confused with the relay runner. Boxer Find the torso and check where the hands usually are for the boxing gloves (which are larger and rounder than normal hands). Swimmer and Judo Fighter I found these two the hardest to differentiate between as they don't have any accessories. The only difference is the hair / cap. For the Swimmer , the cap is relatively smooth, though it does have ridges on the top. The best way to identify this is to check the base of it, which is completely smooth with no indents for ears, curls of hair etc. The Judo Fighter's hair in comparison has a more uneven base due to the indents for ears, curls of hair. It's also possible to feel the lump on the top of the hair which is the short ponytail. Quote
pjonze Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 (edited) My Lego Store had also bagged 'em into complete sets. Edited July 8, 2012 by pjonze Quote
Bricksan Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 I managed to bag 8 of the 9 today I mistook a boxer for the horse rider so now have a spare. Quote

Flobnomdob Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Has anyyone noticed the Equestrian has a new, amazing possibility? She has inner leg printing! That's a TLG first! Today I bought five random figs from WHSmith. (How dare they overprice them when the press release clearly stated they'd cost £1.99 in the shops!) I didn't even know the price until checkout because it was not shown! I knew that I want them all apart from the swimmer, as he's rubbish, so I had a high chance of getting most of the ones I wanted. But! I ended out with 3 swimmers, a Equestrian and the Gymnast. I hoped the prining on the Equestrian could be more useful, but the thrice chopped up rosette on the legs/hips/torso means that the three parts cannot be removed and still look good. Still. she'd make a perfect Princess Anne. Personally, my favourite minifig from this series as of yet is the Gymnast, for her new hairpeice and actual Lego bricks included in a set for the first time! Quote
Leanne Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 (edited) I was surprised to see these out in my local Toys R Us today. Lots of boxes to hunt through! I came away with an almost complete set - accidentally got two gymnasts and missed out on a judo wrestler. I did get four runners to make up a relay team and an extra tennis player to make a doubles team. A lovely set to add to my every growing collection of Olympic memorabilia! Lightning Dragon Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Hopefully minifigures will be made for the 2016 Olympics that will be sold in other countries. My friend in the UK agreed to sell me a complete set for $20 Lucky me Quote
Golden Phoenix Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Has anyone figured out the case assortment? They can fit 6 full sets with 6 spare figures, but I am curious to see if they have done it that way. Hopefully they haven't done it like they usually do meaning only 4 or 5 full sets. Quote

Venunder Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Don't buy them full price at WHsmiths. Use a 25% off Greeting Cards voucher to get a card for £1.41 Purchase a £15 gift card at the same time for £10. So that's £11.41 so far. (Or a £3.59 saving off something when you spend that £15 gift card.) Now buy seven figures = £17.43 Use £5 off a £15 spend voucher = £12.43 (They are handing out these vouchers when you buy the Greetings card.) Now use your £15 gift card to pay for the 7 figures. Leaving £2.51 on your gift card. (Five of these add up to get 7 more figures.) Do this 5 times you pay £57.05 for 5 Gift cards worth £75 and using 6 vouchers for £30 off you have £105 to spend. So you got 42 figures for £57.05, with a bit left on one of your gift cards. Which is about £1.36 per figure. Quote

Scrib Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I'm studying abroad in Oxford for a month. Just got in yesterday, and one of my first things to do today was go Minifig hunting. I'm happy to report that I was able to buy a complete, sealed box at a shop called Boswell & Co. I've opened 29/60 of the packs thus far and took a little break because I just opened the Karate girl and now have a complete set of 9 on display. I first saw them at WH Smith, where they were 2.50 pounds apiece. I'm glad I didn't jump the gun in my excitement, since Boswell was just a few stores down and they had them for 1.99 each. I paid 119.40 in total. I haven't bought an entire box since series 4, since it's a lot more economical to feel for a complete set of 16 plus any spares. Take series 5 for example: I only wanted one 80's fitness instructor for display with the rest of the set, while I wanted 20 Romans from series 6. However, since I'm from the US and these are UK exclusive, I bought a box because I consider them to be the ultimate souvenir. It really is lucky that I'm studying here just as they release a country-exclusive item. I'll provide a breakdown of the box's contents by column when I've finished opening all the packets. Let's hope I can get these home safe... Quote
AmperZand Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Scrib, I came out of my dark ages in 1993 thanks to a wizard set and a Castle accessory pack I bought at Boswells or "Bozies" as we used to call it. I don't live in Oxford anymore but have fond memories of Bozies. Everyone else, Apologies for the off-topic post. Amps Quote
Scrib Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Here's the case breakdown: Row 1 (left), front to back 1. Archer 2. Archer 3. Gymnast 4. Tennis Player 5. Gymnast 6. Gymnast 7. Weightlifter 8. Tennis Player 35. Archer 36. Tennis Player 37. Runner 38. Judo 39. Gymnast 40. Gymnast Row 3 (right) 41. Equestrian 42. Judo 43. Gymnast 44. Tennis Player 45. Weightlifter 46. Swimmer 47. Archer 48. Boxer 49. Judo 50. Judo 51. Runner 52. Equestrian 53. Runner 54. Boxer 55. Judo 56. Boxer 57. Runner 58. Equestrian 59. Archer 60. Archer 7 Archers, 6 Boxers, 7 Gymnasts, 7 Judo practitioners, 7 Tennis players, 6 Weightlifters, 7 Runners, 7 Swimmers, 6 Equestrians. Overall, I'm pleased with this series. It may not be as dynamic or interesting as the seven numbered serieses, but it will always have special meaning for me because I was in-country to find and buy them. It's great to have the newer ponytail piece in bright yellow and black as well (Series 6's skater girl with her purple stripe doesn't count). The Equestrian's helmet and hair combo is the same one used in one of the new Friends sets. I'm a big fan of the 3L bar piece, so it's great to see it in white (Weightlifter) and flat silver (Runner). I think it makes a better wand / handaxe shaft than its 4L counterpart. I have a serious surplus of gold medals now... AmperZand, I thought it was a great store. The two clerks assisting me were very courteous, and were even hesitant to cut the seals on the box so we knew how many to ring up! That's my fault though, I was throwing around the term "sealed box" too much. I meant sealed as in "factory ratios not tampered with," so I made sure to tell them that I did not mind, as I was going to open the box and all the packets myself anyway. I thanked them profusely and told them that being able to buy a box really meant a lot to me! Quote
