Graysmith Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Like many of us I definitely want to see a better balance of the sexes in LEGO minifigures throughout the various themes, but I can't say I find this "strange," exactly. Most LEGO themes have long been dominated by male minifigures, including the Minifigures line; this Olympic series actually has the most female representation, proportionally speaking (3 out of 9, or 1 in 3, as opposed to the regular series having anywhere from 2 to 5 female characters per 16). It's therefore actually something of an improvement, though there's still a long way to go... I think it's strange because they could've so very easily made one (or more) of the male figures in this series into a female one(s). The tennis player, swimmer, relay runner and/or archer could've just as well been female. That's a pretty big difference from the regular Collectable Minifigures series where many characters are typically/traditionally male (bagpiper, knight, mechanic). Quote
Flipz Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Aaagh, I must have them! I, too am diasppointed that LEGO didn't expand this to be a worldwide thing. I mean, seriously, even if the Olympics aren't in your home country, you'd still want these guys. And why not have a few different coutries' worth of athletes to oppose the British team? The Olympics are about worldwide connections and cooperation, not just about sports; giving different regions a different Olympics CMF range would fit right in line with that goal by encouraging all kinds of global CMF trading, instead of the wave of exports only that will come out of this series. Zeya Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 It's totally fake. The photo doesn't even have proper lighting. The Lego logo is on there twice. The copyright says 200. The photo itself is very fishy. The mockup of the box seems photoshopped, and I think it says "series 9" in the top-left corner there (that would be a bizarre series). Yeah, I'm just not buying it. It's someone just having a good time. I think they missed their April 1st deadline. Wow. I was totally wrong. My apologies. I'll be less hasty to make comments like that in the future. Now I need to decide if I want these or not and how to get them on this side of the Atlantic. I just got a box of CMF7 from Amazon.fr, so maybe they will carry these when they come out. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) Although I was more inclined to think that these were fake, I'm so glad they are not! I'm not sure if I'd be buying them, but one can't complain about Lego making more minifigures! However, I have to admit... It would be nice if they released non-team-specific figs too, for those of us who won't be cheering GB at the games. Edited May 17, 2012 by johnnyvgoode Quote

LOL - I can't wait to pick up these minifigs...not sure how I'm gonna go about that, but we'll see Quote
Jargo Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 HA! Hahahahahahahahahaha. Thrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp! to all the naysayers. They look lovely. I shall have them all. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Glad to see these are finally confirmed. Hope to get a few boxes from fellow collectors. Kind of disappointed the archer doesn't have the new compound bow. Quote
has a differing opinion Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Hello doubters,do your words taste nice?*tongue* These look better than the preliminaries! I love all the team GB logos, it may limit the use of them, but fear not, as nothing is impossible with brasso! Quote

Walter Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 So they are real! I was on the fence there for awhile. I'm glad Lego got around to confirming them. I'll have to see if I can't get some from overseas. I like some of the new pieces and designs. Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 It is the first good thing about hosting the olympics so far Quote
CM4Sci Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Found three more! Amazing side leg printing! -Sci Quote
AwesomeTaylor Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Gotta bug everyone in the UK to help me get these now! Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Too bad they are exclusive to the UK, I was really looking forward to some of these. Quote
Rufus Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 First post updated. I'm a little underwhelmed by these. They're mostly too specific to be any use for anything except collectors' items. But I do like the horse rider, and the swimmer's torso might be useful. Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Nicely detailed figures.....pity there are no other countries involved in the series or Olympic heroes from the past. Now it would be an idea if the mod's could source a complete set and have a contest around the theme of sport ? Quote
AndyC Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Glad to see they've been confirmed, although I was kind of hoping they might not all have gold medals as it would have been a good opportunity for some silver/bronze ones too. Quote
Darth Dino Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) Hi doas anybody know if the figs will be visual inside the bag? I would like to have the whole set without the need of purchasing the whole box... Dino Edited May 17, 2012 by Darth Dino Quote
purpleparadox Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Hi doas anybody know if the figs will be visual inside the bag? I would like to have the whole set without the need of purchasing the whole box... Dino I doubt that the figs will be visual through the bags. It goes against all of the CMF series made so far. These are great! I hope I can get my hands on some of them. Perhaps EB needs an Olympic CMF contest? Quote
tafkatb Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Haha, I like the little detail on the relay runner - number 1948, the year of the previous London Olympics. Quote

Vindicare Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Oh man, I was kind of hoping these would turn out to be a hoax...I'd really like a set...if it's not going to be too pricey. Quote
ninamaverick Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I will be happy to get them at cost price for people, there is also a lot of Brickset members offering to do the same as well. I would love to get them too, I'm in the Philippines though. Let me know how much it would cost (plus shipping and all as I'm interested too :) Quote
