Hello everyone:) I was building some bodywork on my Supercar, and I realized I forgot some seats. Thank goodness, I was only doing the hood of the car:) but I thought...about Lego Seats...

What different designs have you all seen? I know I have seen some pretty cool seats on Sariel's Ford GT40 and Emilus's rubber sears on brickshelf...but, I was wondering, what was the coolest or most innovative seats you have seen built out of Lego?

This topic may also help me get some inspiration for my Supercar's Seats, plus, it may inspire y'all too!

Please post some replies with pictures:)

Thanks for you help and support! Happy building!

Paul Boratko (a.k.a. Crowkillers) had this Lego Technic seat design, as discussed on this TechnicBRICKS topic:

Of course, there's the old standby 2717 "Technic Seat 3 x 2 Base" (which works well in smaller Technic creations:

Crowkiller's has done a variety of seats in his cars. I think it's a personal preference, unless the MOC you are building is of an actual car, then try to model them after the real ones. Remember, YOU are the only one who needs to be happy with them.

I like the way that Jurgen Krooshoop did the seats on his Lego Technic "Little Devil" RC Sportscar -- the Round Pin Joiners look like plush leather seats:

Nathanael Kuipers (industrialdesigner) has interesting seat cushions and headrests on his Lego Convertible Supercar:

For those who like "studded" building, the 8880 Supercar had some uncomfortable-looking seats:

also, i seem to recall you having some seats of your own, with tire cusions.

or, you could use mine:

pay no attention to the headless technic fig in the background. man, i love those visorak torsos

Good idea using the visorak torsos! I have two myself! I think the might just be the answer:) also, do u have a extra technic figure I could trade or buy? Those were used before my time sadly:(

sadly, the same goes for me. i have two technic figs in total, one of which is headless, and the other is a bit missing. sorry, don't have any to sell.

Mmm, I got ya *wink*

And a little idea of mine. Also, the reason why there are almost no arched tan bricks left at the Bricklink ;)

Sariel's seats look like "Fine Corinthian Leather", as hawked by Ricardo Montalban:

There are a wide variety of seat designs out there, some of which have already been posted in this thread. Some are very simple, some are very complex. I have built a couple of Erik Leppen's cars and I found his seats fascinating because they are so different from others I have built.

From the Zonda:

From the Bughatti:

I think most seats seen in supercars (both set and MOC) are too small given the size of the cars, and too far apart because the gear box takes too much space. The primary reason I switched to the simple 4 gear gearbox instead of 5+R is because I can put the seats closer together, enabling me to make the roof a bit less wide.

I also think almost all seats in official Technic supercar sets are ugly, the reason being that they can't spend too many parts on it because it doesn't add any "technic-ness" to a set. For me the exception to the rule is 8880 which has seats I actually like a lot. A lot of seats in MOC supercars tend to follow the 9x5 liftarm + 6x4 liftarm method used in 8448 and 8466, a design I personally dislike for being too simple and not accurate. Thirdly, you can limit yourself to studless designs but these usually look quite "coarse". If you want more detail I think you would have to use non-Technic (studded) Lego parts as well.

Anyhow. I like to experiment with seats in my own cars, partly because I dislike the "default" designs. If I may be so free to post some of my own designs (other than the ones Blakbird has noted, for which many thanks!):

Here I used curved slopes and wings to create more curved looking base of the seat.

lego_supercarchassis_046.jpg

Here I used 4x4 plates with studs on edge to create a smooth surface and used angle connectors to create an angled shape. For those who wonder, the chain below the base is connected to a worm gear that moves up and down the headrest.

yellowsupercar_111.jpg

Here I use angle connectors #2 instead of the more usual round pin joiners (of which I simply don't have as many).

lamborghiniinspiredsupercar_070.jpg

My personal favorite, as you see completely studded and snotful design using dark red pieces from the 7784 UCS Batmobile to create curved shapes. I used black grill tiles with an orange plate underneath to simulate "heating". I used trans-red simply because I ran out of dark red.

lego_paganiinstructions_029.jpg

Here I used the curves of the old Technic panel fairing elements for the base.

lego_racecar_011.jpg

Another one I like a lot, using the almost useless yellow decorative elements from 8421 at the front, and the classic 4 x 3 wing piece (of which I only have one in yellow...) as a head rest.

What is the space between your seats when using the 4 speed as opposed to using a 5+R?

Only 5 studs width?

That looks so great! For me as a newbie, it's a little overwhelming, how great you guys do this! Awesome! :)

@Erik Leppen

Wow those are some awesome chairs! So intricate and and somewhat comfortable looking! Nice job  .

I have just made a demo seat for my first supercar: The Batmobile. I won't reveal much yet, but I will show some demos before I start the official build:

Sorry for the revival of a dead thread, I recently started on my first large scale MOC. I managed to shrink the centre console by building the gearbox where it usually is in a car and then just attaching it to a shifter with linkages. The thing is, now I have wider spaces for car seats, but I have no idea how most people mount their seats to their MOC car floors.

Any inspiration would be appreciated :D

Here's a few renders of my project so far:

Technic seat design is an area that most models fail, they all pretty much look the same and have standard construction ideas, and nearly always boring Blue.

I think TLG need to step up and create more fancy seats!

That looks really cool!

Thanks! As a medical student, I can't really afford lego right now...so I'm using LDD so long XD

It took me an hour to get all the linkages to fit, I guess they look alright for now. I might change the seats later when I get tired of them.

Can you share the LDD-file of your model? It looks awesome :)

It's still a work in progress, and I realised it's a bit too narrow, so I'm in the process of rebuilding. Will upload what I have so far at the end of the week, probably :)

I really like that model. I had a WIP a while ago of a 2008 BMW M3, there is a post about it here on EB. The project started out with a Shelby GT which I later on rebuilt into an M3 in scale 1:8 I think.

In any case, I look forward to view some more of your design :)
