Venunder Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) Having seen several ways to build Trees, I thought I would gather a few links together. If you want to help, just post a link or suggest new methods. I Scream Clone Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Whilst it's a good idea to have a tree resource, perhaps you could research up more than two techniques when starting a thread? Maybe even post some tutorial pictures yourself The Flickr group, LEGO Arboretum is a one stop shop for cool trees and shrubbery. I will add it to your post. Cheers ISC. Quote
Venunder Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 ^ Sorry I'm a bit slow gathering my links. Next time I will gather my info before posting a topic. At some point I will contribute my own method if I discover one that seems worthy. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I have got you started with a few pics and links, see what cool things you can find. Keep up the good work. Quote
Hersbrucker Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Here is a link to a gallery from builder Michael. Brickself link Quote
mephistopheles Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I don't really get why this topic is in the GoH Forum. It would be much better to have it in the LEGO Historic Themes Forum. Quote
Hersbrucker Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) I don't really get why this topic is in the GoH Forum. It would be much better to have it in the LEGO Historic Themes Forum. I thought the same, as I looked at this thread the first time. Edited April 17, 2012 by Hersbrucker Quote
tedbeard Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) As usual many people all do the same thing: LEGO LandScape group on Flickr LEGO Palm Trees group on Flickr Brick Bonsai group on Flickr In addition to the LEGO Arboretum above. And that was just 30-40 seconds of searching on Flickr. Hopefully this thread can help bring sanity but might I suggest it is in the wrong place. Buried in Eurobricks Forums > Themes > LEGO Historic Themes > Guilds of Historica rather than something a little more general may not be the best place for it unless you are only interested in trees built for the GoH project. Legonardo Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Heres another tree technique made by myself Quote
Tazmaniac Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 This looks promising but should probably not be guild specific...I'll move it to the main forum. And add this: Bonsai by Taz-Maniac, on Flickr Quote
Angeli Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) well... I;ve used up a half of hour writing this post for thread: "A guide to tree building", but now it seems it disapeared... I will post it here, and if it was moved, this post could be to, I suppose... if not, there are few links to the "building how to" :) here's an article from Antony Sava: link, named: "Creating trees and foliage" here's an instruction from Monteur: link, named: "Trees" and, talking about articles that could help you while building, here you can find all of these: Buildings - Advanced Tudor Style Instructions by Lenny Hoffman - Model Castle Openings by Lenny Hoffman - Avoiding the "Big Gray Wall" Syndrome by Bruce N H - Castle Wall Offsets by Ben E. - Medieval interiors by ? - pdf file - Stained glass windows by Bruce N H - Stained glass - using slopes by Jim - Towers 101 by Eggy (Eggplant Wizard) - on MOCpages - Round Tower Techniques by John Boozer (jediknight219) - on MOCpages - Curved Amphitheater's Walls by Krazy Kastle Krak Guy (K3G) - on MOCpages Environment - Creating trees and foliage, not just for deities any more by Anthony Sava - Building a landscape by DNL and SlyOwl - Building a landscape - Grass-scaping by SlyOwl - Waves by Bruce N H - Waterfalls 101 by Eggy (Eggplant Wizard) - on MOCpages - Rocks 101 by Eggy (Eggplant Wizard) - on MOCpages - Palm tree by Eggy (Eggplant Wizard) - on MOCpages - Trees by Monteur - on Brickshelf Creatures - Brick Built Beasts 1 - Mundane animals by Bruce N. Haltiamieli Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) I do like this big tree design by Paultox a lot. It has shamefully few votes in Cuusoo. There's also in Youtube. Edited April 17, 2012 by Haltiamieli Quote
brickie Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I do like this big tree design by Paultox a lot. It has shamefully few votes in Cuusoo. There's also in Youtube. I liked his tree so much that I have spent all afternoon building one; it is brilliant. The tree is really well designed; it has great durability for a display. It is so good that I went to Cuusoo and voted for it. Quote
konze Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Hello, today I've built an evergreen. I was inspired by this one on flickr. I've created an instruction which you can find over here: http://konze.org/lego I hope you enjoy it. Best regards konze Quote
Jareth Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Thanks for the inspiration! Heres a link to my jungle plants http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=495683 and to other trees http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=501650 I may add instructions at some point And a very large tree trunk. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5380650 Quote
Venunder Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 @ Jareth if you can get a better shot of your Giant tree I can list it. Quote
NiceMarmot Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Great list of techniques! Shouldn't this be in the LEGO General Discussion & News forum? Seems to me that it applies to a lot more than just Historic Themes, such as Pirates, Town, etc. And maybe it should be linked to from the first post of the Advanced Building Techniques thread in that forum. Although that post hasn't been edited in a while. Ugh, that's the problem with discussion boards -- if it's not stickied, it disappears from view unless someone bumps it. Quote
Jareth Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 @ Jareth if you can get a better shot of your Giant tree I can list it. Sorry...It's been broken down. To be honest, the top of the tree wasn't that great. I don't own enough branch pieces. Allthough, maybe I could do a brick based crown instead of a branch based one.....hmmm.... Quote
Venunder Posted April 21, 2012 Author Posted April 21, 2012 (edited) I would like to see more trees with grey trunks so that is shame Jareth. I would also like to see some more tan coloured round bricks used to help expand the tree designs. Edit: Oops bad spelling. Edited April 22, 2012 by Venunder Quote
P@u!+ox Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I liked his tree so much that I have spent all afternoon building one; it is brilliant. The tree is really well designed; it has great durability for a display. It is so good that I went to Cuusoo and voted for it. Thanks for the support! I really hope the video also helps others to build my trees! Quote
Venunder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 I have found a few interesting Trees to add to the first post. If anyone finds any new Trees please post a link here. Quote
P@u!+ox Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I built a new tree today. It's an autumn birch! For all the LEGO purists out there; close your eyes! It has non-LEGO yellow leave parts: Quote
