Heroica RPG - Quest #31: Lions and Lambs

"Victory! I think we should clean up these bodies, then resume our talking to the commander. Also, Isabella, you wanted to talk to me?"

Skrall tosses 10 Gold each to Arthur, Isabella, and Alexandre, pocketing 10 for himself. He calls out to the imperial soldier who had been watching the fight, "Go ahead and close the doors on that gate, we don't want anymore troops comin' in and proppin' the portculus up again. Alexandre, you come with me and see if we can find the commander of the fort. The rest of you troops see if you can bury these bodies or dispose of 'em in some way. I don't want the stench lowerin' the morale of the troops or anything."

Arthur feels a surge of satisfaction as his power bursts forth to cut short the lives of his enemies. The dark elation even drowns out his latent hostility toward Isabella for a moment, and he cheerfully accepts the gold without complaint. Moving to the bodies, he feels the magically-inflicted wounds, reveling in the aura of supernatural death that still surrounded them. His mind returning to practical matters, he examines the bodies for trace evidence (fibers, plant leaves, etc.) that might indicate the rebels' point of origin. Upon completing his task, he steps outside the gate for a moment and digs, coming in before the Imperials seal the fort.

"Sirs, we've spotted intruders on the other side of the fort! They've broken into the armory!"

You run to the armory, and, looking into a corridor leading to it, you can see a knight with a red cape, followed by a roguish sort of fellow in a dark green cloak, and a huge hammer poking out which you can tell is being held by whoever is behind him.

Prepare for battle!

Arthur has a nagging feeling he recognizes that hammer, but pushes it aside. He snarls, and his eyes start to glow slightly as he begins charging his dark powers. After carefully memorizing the spells on his Scrolls, he leaps into the hallway, casting the Blindness spell on the red-cloaked figure from the Back Row.

Count Knyghton, too, has the nagging feeling that he knows that weapon, but unlike Arthur it clicks for him. "Arthur, no, that's--" Before he can say anymore, Arthur rams into him mid-leap; Knyghton is slammed against the wall and momentarily Stunned.

OOC: Because I was an idiot and didn't realize the underlined text was a link this post is considered null and void.

"Sir, we're slowly but steadily driving the enemy back. Our troops are gaining ground, but their archers are giving us a little bit of trouble. You have three options: You can take command of the forces we have deployed and direct their actions, you can try to fight your way to their archer divisions and destroy them yourselves, or you can use ranged weapons and shoot at their archers from atop the fort's walls."

"Yer scarin' me, Mage, with yer sudden ability fer good ideas. I think I know what yer gettin' at, and I think it's a good one." Count Knyghton says. "Arthur an' perhaps Skrall could take tha top o' tha wall, ta blast things from afar. Luke'd stay up there as well, I know he can heal at range. Skrall, ya might want ta loan tha' sword of yours ta Alexandre fer tha time bein', so as ta give him a bit o' extra melee power; he, I, and Miss Isabella should divide ourselves between commandin' tha troops and wadin' right in ta battle." His plan explained, Count Knyghton pulls Skrall aside for a moment. "Tha' shade is a profoundly good influence on Arthur. We run across them again, you bring him with us, if ya have ta bind 'im and carry 'im over yer shoulder. He's back ta tha way I remember 'im, mostly, but ya never know what'll set 'im off."

"Pikeman, would the spells from my Gems and Scrolls have sufficient range to hit the Archers from here?"

"Yes, I believe they would, sir. We do have crossbows available for use, also."

"Let's fight our way too them!"

We get loot and xp.

We see see more of Doc's awesome pics.

We'll surprise them, and maybe up close we could take some prisoners and interrogate them.

Alexandre runs back onto the battlements. "I'd like a crossbow, sirs."

Alexandre, you Count Kyghton and Isabella should lead an assult on the archers while Luke, Arthur, and me pick 'em off from above. Oh and Alexandre you may be needin' this." Skrall loosed the scabbard and greatsword from his back and passed them to Alexandre.

"That's the first sensible thing ya've said in a while young Regulus, glad to have ya back in the action. Alexandre, you Count Kyghton and Isabella should lead an assult on the archers while Luke, Arthur, and me pick 'em off from above. Oh and Alexandre you may be needin' this." Skrall loosed the scabbard and greatsword from his back and passed them to Alexandre.

"Yes sir. Isabella, Count, with me!" Alexandre caught the sword and stormed out of the gates.

OOC: Alexandre has: WP: 6 elf sword, WP: 20 Lion Noble sword, and, he asked for a crossbow.

Sorry for double post, but Alexandre equips the Greatsword.

I apologize for the wait, but this just unexpectedly turned into a very busy holiday weekend (at least it is in the US) for me, and I've got Internet access, but I'm away from my LEGO the majority of the time, so I haven't had time to build a proper set and take pictures for this battle. (which wasn't already prepared because it's a filler battle added to kill some time while the other Dastan quest catches up)

Alexandre looks over his shoulder, then replies, "It does seem like he has a grudge, but why? We were fine defending the fort last quest. Maybe it's something going on inside of him. Both of us really don't know anything about magic, maybe it causes a side effect to using it." Perhaps I should learn to figure this out, Alexandre thinks as an afterthought.

"Anyways, he can't do anything now, since we're away from him... nevermind, he's got that crossbow. Don't worry, if he harms you, he will have to go through me to do it. I don't think it will come to that, he's acting more normal."

[Dharkan]

"Well let's hope so. I don't want to deal with such a problem."

Count Knyghton, who has been quietly nodding along with Alexandre and Isabella, now chooses to speak up. "Or we could always just use his own tactic, just randomly attack him and be done with it. He'd certainly be a lot easier ta deal with unconscious."

Arthur sees Alexandre conspiring with Isabella and now Knyghton beyond his earshot, and his heart sinks. And so it begins. De'kra, I hope you are safe from the corrupting influence of the woman in your party... He drops his head sadly, and a tear ran down his face. Now Alexandre, too was lost to him, as he had already lost Knighton. "No more..." he murmurs. Seeing Skrall and Luke turn their heads at his sudden speech, he clarifies, "No more friends shall be lost to me this day. I will ensure it." He charges up a bolt of darkness, and prepares to launch it the moment the battle starts...

OOC: Would it be possible for me to specify that, if Arthur gets a Magic Burst, it would hit Alexandre, Knyghton, and Isabella as well as the enemy troops? Because Arthur considers them his enemies; I don't know exactly what logic is behind the Magic Burst, but if it's his magic overflowing and bursting out of control then he wouldn't be able to stop himself for the sake of the party, like he usually does when choosing to attack the enemy instead of Isabella--and now Knyghton and Alexandre.
