Zepher Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 (edited) Round Four Market Battle Felton - Phoenix Essence on Harkenshire Atramor heals Thothwick - Heal Less Tarn v. Bombster A - Extra Critical Hit Thothwick v. Cultist - Miss Harkenshire v. Cultist - Shield The battle continues. Felton ignores the heroes and revives William Harkenshire, who stumbles to his feet. Atramor heals Thothwick, but only slightly (+10). Tarn attacks the Bombster A, dealing a staggering amount of blows in a short time [([10x3]+14)x2=88]. Thothwick swings at the Cultist, but his flaming apparatus shoves Thothwick back (-3). Harkenshire fires at the Cultist and drops him, and then fires on both the Bombsters, killing Bombster B with a bullet to the head. As the burns sizzle (-2), Bombster A looks at the party in disgust. "They've probably set up by now. No point holding you here any longer. I'm just paid. No point to lose my life over nothing." Bombster A fires a quick fire blast that knocks everyone off their feet. When they stand back up, Bombster A is gone. The Battle is Victorious! CMP Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 (edited) Atramor curses, restoring full health to both himself and Thothwick before glow of magical healing fades from his hands. "I agree. I hope Nyx's managed to hold off whatever the hell is going down there...can't believe one of those bastards got away again..." Do I gain another health and ether, or is it completely stemmed due to Wren? I'd kind of prefer if I did, if there's any more battles I'm going to be lost figuring out how much I'm supposed to have by the end of the quest. Edited May 27, 2012 by CallMePie Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 OoC: We better get CMP to another battle soon! "Seeing as I and Mr. Harkenshire have several gold pieces, I'll give 13 gold to Mr. Tarn, and 12 gold to witch." "Quick, let us return to Mr. U'stus and Ms. Nyx!" Quote
Rumble Strike Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Tarn accepted the gold pieces with a grim smile. "Let us hope that our steel flower has not wilted." OOC: Level 15 yay! Quote
CMP Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) Hey, I already lost out on one level by staying in Drakencourt, and I took a massive stat hit just for information. I need my EXP! Atramor pocketed the gold with a sigh. He was already beginning to miss the extra coins coming in from mugging his enemies...ah, well. The reward once they were out of Dastan would surely be reasonable enough. "Alright, then. Let's head back." Edited May 28, 2012 by CallMePie Quote
Zepher Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 The heroes rush back to U'Stus' house. It is dark inside. They try the door and find it unlocked. Felton leads the way up the stairs and to U'Stus' study. There, they are greeted by a disheartening sight. U'Vires is instantly recognizable. "Hello heroes. Please lead the way." The heroes walk in front of U'Stus and U'Vires, with U'Vires giving specific directions. They soon arrive in a banquet hall at the center of the house. A Dragon Knight and two pages, one of whom Atramor recognizes as Clara, stand at attention. Their eyes are glassy. Three U'Kin, one of whom Atramor recognizes as the Librarian, also stand, equally glassy eyed. U'Vires walks out from behind U'Stus and goes to stand with the other six, keeping his gun trained on the U'Kin Politician. Nyx is no where to be seen. "Heroes, allow me to explain what is happening tonight, heroes, so that you may pick the side that you truly want to be fighting for you can pick. I will be honest with you heroes I will be honest. I do not play games because I am looking to protect my people and move forward. The Dastan Empire has oppressed us for more years than we can remember we have been oppressed by the Dastan Empire. We have tried to move forward. The Empire has stopped us. I have taken matters into my own hands." "Today, I turn U'Stus into a martyr and raise my people to action by turning U'Stus into a martyr. U'Stus is a good U'Kin. I will not sully his death. His heart is correct, his actions are not. Tonight, a Dragon Knight and two pages broke into his house and murdered him along with his three U'Kin dinner guests were murdered. They fought valiantly and killed their attackers. It will show to the U'Kin that those who are peaceful are killed by our oppressors, but we have the power to fight back. I am no random murderer heroes. I have a cause. I look for progress for my people. I am not like Sphinx who hopes only to destroy, or Wren who looks only to improve herself. I have a goal, and it is a righteous goal that I have." "Now, I offer you a choice. You either side with me, and the heroes of Heroica fought to protect U'Stus, or you do not side with me, and the heroes of Heroica fell while trying to kill U'Stus. Which side do you pick, heroes?" U'Stus stares ahead with steely defiance. U'Vires matches his look. The six glassy eyed watchers stare down the heroes. Quote
CMP Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) Atramor curses under his breath as he sees U'Vires, but grudgingly follows him and U'Stus to the dining hall, crossing his arms as he recognizes Clara and the librarian, though he says nothing of either of them. Both his and McCafferey's ears listen to intently to the assassin's speech and intended cover story, where the witch proceeds to simply laugh. "So you're willin' to murder onna your leaders, who fought so damn hard for the freedom of your people, just to prove to 'em that the people whose city you're livin' in, are oppressin' ya'? So say we go along with your plan an' it works. The U'kin rebel - congratulations to their mighty leader - and suddenly every single onna them gets slaughtered by Dastan's forces, or once they leave, are consumed by the desert or overrun by any one of the dangers outside these walls, includin', but not limited to, the Chimera, the Lions, rogue or otherwise, every little monster we try an' kill to keep the peace and such..." He nods to U'Stus. "He's your best chance of freein' your people. He's doin' a good job of it, too, both Emperor Septrine and his daughter support the U'kin's cause. And you intend to throw every little bit of his work, and his life away, for a more sudden, violent, and bloody end to your people, rather than waitin' a bit longer for a peaceful resolution that leaves you with equal rights as humans? I think Phil and U'Stus were wrong. You ain't a corrupt politician fightin' for your cause, as they've repeatedly assured us...you're just a really motivated assassin, no different than Sphinx or XX. ...Oh, and kill U'Stus, an' I won't rest 'til your eyestalks are inside out and your body's bein' fed to the dragons." McCafferey makes a quiet "Hmmm," in his mind, as if intrigued or satisfied by his argument. It leave him feeling rather uneasy, but he stands by his statements. Edited May 28, 2012 by CallMePie Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 "The Witch - as much as this pains me say - is correct. Manipulating your people into genocide against Humans can only lead to the deaths of countless U'Kin. Prejudiced people exists in all corners of the world. Believe me, I know of where I speak. I have seen the subduction my kind, such as seeing them locked in cages like animals for the amusement of others. Orcs were once enslaved, and whilst currently not on equal footing, have managed to improve their lot in life. That's exactly what Mr. U'Stus is trying to do, and all your murder will do is further increase the entrenched racism that your kind faces. It's not too late. Holster your weapon, and your kind can be saved." Quote
CMP Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 "At one point or another, I do tend to be correct. Sometimes." Shrugging, and waiting for the U'kin's response, Atramor pulls the Tonic from the inside of his cloak, downing it one gulp. After only a moment, he coughs, sputtering a little on the liquid. "Good...damn, that's worse than the smell 'round Gurnam's...." Quote
Zepher Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 "You sorely underestimate my people and overestimate the Emperors. You say that change is coming you say! When?! We have been slaves to the Dastanians for years. Longer than your Orcs, and our lot has improved less than your Orcs. And even they have not gained true freedom. The Empire may dangle the promise of freedom before us to keep us at bay, but we must take it if we truly want it we must take it. But your stance is your stance. You feel you have a duty. I understand that. I too have a duty. Mine is to my people, your's is to your gold." "I am not unfair. It must appear as a dinner party, and so we must drink as it is a dinner party." U'Vires, keeping his gun trained on U'Stus, walks over to a table that is covered with a clothe. He rips it off and reveals fourteen glasses, each filled with a colorless liquid. The glasses have little pieces of paper in front of them, labeling them one through fourteen. He walks back over. "These are a gift from Wren. So are the brain-dead traitors and soldiers you see behind me. She collected them as a little present to me she collected them. The U'Kin who support the empire, who work as part of it, and the soldiers who keep us in line. She wiped their brains she wiped. Now they will serve an actual purpose in starting the glorious rebellion they will find their true purpose." "The game we'll play is simple. Each of us drinks one of the drinks, and then, the battle begins once each of us has had. Sound fair, heroes?" U'Vires stops. Your friend Nyx is not here... U'Stus and her seemed to like each other. Have him drink a second one. Wren has left you clues on which to drink and which not to drink. She said that you would be expecting them and she didn't want to disappoint you, she said." U'Vires hands Thothwick a slip of paper. Rumble Strike Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 "I would add my words to those of Atramor and Mr Thothwick, both good people, both with valid points, but I fear they have landed on deaf ears. 'Those who shall not listen do not deserve kind words', as my wise mentor would say. But I am not him, and I will speak up against such folly. You are following a path that will only lead into darkness for you and especially your people. Murdering people for political reasons is no way to found a new life for your kin. All races are capable of bad things - like the human slavers who destroyed my village and took my sister - but you cannot let hatred spur you into false action. If you did not have U'Stus as a hostage I would kill you where you stand to protect your people. You are being played for a fool by Wren and you do not even realise it. I do not wish to play her game, but to save kind and noble U'Stus, I will have to." Tarn indicates he will take drink 3, as long as the rest of the party are happy for him to take it. Quote
CMP Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 In the middle of doing a bunch of calculations and stuff... But I count 7 prime numbers, and only 6 are accounted for in the hint. Is that intentional, or...? Quote
Zepher Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 OoC: Maybe go read what prime numbers are once more. 1 is not a prime. "Wren plays me for no fool. I am aware of who she is and what she is and ins't capable of I am aware of. Perhaps more than you heroes. I was leading a rebellion for my people before she came to Dastan, and I will be leading one after I have gotten rid of her. Yes, heroes, I have told you I am noble, heroes. Once Dastan is won, I will not stand for the likes of Sphinx and Wren once Dastan is won. They are vile to me as they are to you. Destruction is not my goal as it is their's and the Empire. I am not above using people, but I am not used." "Heroes, I do not mean to offend. You know the service that Heroica has done to me... by my side, at the least. I have noticed a trend that I fear must be stopped if you are to deal with Wren, or any opponent. Do not over-estimate your allies or under-estimate your enemies. You may never truly know another man or woman. Wren is the ultimate example of that. We must never carry ourselves as if we alone are in the right and everyone else is ignorant. I came to Dastan to hunt Wren, and here I am prepared to fight a fight between two U'Kin. You taught me that was the right thing. U'Vires is wrong, but do not assume he is ignorant. Even Wren opened my eyes in some ways. Do not underestimate anyone." "Play this game carefully heroes. I fear that if I am made the martyr he would like me to be, the people will be set back if I am made the martyr he wishes me to be. I refuse to have my life's work thrown away that way." "I will drink any drink you are unsure of, heroes. I am from a small town in the High Kingdoms. We have a stronger ability to survive there. Things are rough." Quote
Zepher Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 I know, but 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 14 all are. OoC: Now you really need to look up what prime numbers are... are you not from the USA? Maybe that has another meaning elsewhere? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_prime_numbers#The_first_500_prime_numbers Quote
CMP Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) Damn it. I'm thinking about complete opposite. I can never be right about math, even the most basic definitions... Atramor tosses a few crumpled parchment balls into the fireplace, cursing at his own ignorance. One hand sribbled a bit of charcoal to form some extremely complicated and likely inaccurate on another sheet, drumming his other hand on the tabletop irritably. McCafferey rolls her beady eyes and sits atop one of the petrified U'kin's head. After several minutes, he sighs, leaning back and rubbing his eyes. "Thothwick, I think U'Stus should take drinks 1 and 2, there's no way harm'll come to 'im....if I've done all this right...and if nobody wants to take any risk at all, take drink 9. As for the rest of ya', take either an odd prime number, or an even number. Me and Tarn will have balanced the odds for them, I think." Atramor regards the glasses for a moment, before tossing drink 12 down his mouth, waiting for the flavor to kick in. "Cheers, mates." Edited May 29, 2012 by CallMePie Quote
