Flipz Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Arthur just stood there rather stupidly, so after slightly more eye-rolling than was necessary, Count Knyghton spoke up. "We've been workin' with Emperor Alandri, he's assigned us ta take out a group of rebellious Lion Knights led by four deserters: Sir Loren and his traitorous associates. Along tha way, we found out that Lady Leofwena, the squire of one of our Knights, was workin' with tha Cult of the Chimaera ta try and resurrect tha' ancient beast--they have all o' tha books ta do it, but they lack tha pedestal they need ta finish tha reaction. Though I still say we shoulda taken it with us." He says, throwing a glance at Arthur. "Master Skrall here Tracked Down tha Cultist Leofwena, and their high an' mighty mage Lord Calibor came to her aid. They're both dead, though they mentioned someone named 'Sphinx' who migh' still be around." Knyghton sees Arthur's staff, taken from Calibor's body, shake slightly, and he decides to leave out the exact details of the end of that battle. "After tha', we tried to talk some sense inta Arthur, with apparently limited success, an' then we came here an' fought off a bunch o' Rogue Lion Knights. An' then we ran inta you." A horrible thought struck Arthur. "The troops...please tell me you didn't attack any troops on the way in here..." Quote

"Dimitri...Dimitri...I've heard this name before. In the Library, I think. Give me a moment to check my notes--too bad we can't bring the whole Library with us..." Count Knyghton pulls De'kra aside for a moment. "Arthur has...changed. You're tha' Shade he used to write to, aren't you? Decker, was it? I'm Count Knyghton, I was one of Arthur's friends at Bric'bay...well, tha old Arthur. I dinnae if I like tha new model." He scowls momentarily. "Something's changed with him. He's been acting funny ever since he saw--" Arthur's head jerks up suddenly. "DON'T say it." He points at De'kra. "He goes all funny and forgets the last few minutes whenever it's mentioned. Best to just leave it alone," he says, an unnecessary amount of anger in his tone. Knyghton sighs heavily. "You see how he is. Attackin' without thinkin'. Angry with ev'ryone. An' after what he did ta tha' Tethusial, well..." he pauses uncomfortably. "I dinnae if he's the same person anymore." "FOUND IT!" Arthur calls out. "Dimitri Allen Finegold, brother of Edward Finegold. They were wanted by the Bonapartes for some reason, my notes don't say why. Atramor and Alexis were on that Quest, so I took a few notes, but not as many as I should have, apparently." He frowns at the incomplete nature of his summary. "They fought the Heroes, Dimitri apparently went down first, but he survived, while his brother did not." Arthur ponders for a moment. "Atramor's in Dastan now, if I recall he left just before we did. Perhaps we ought to Track him Down, see if we can make sense of this?" And then I'd have a chance to chat with McCafferey about what's happening to me... Quote

I have seen similar events in past. Might he have had contact and red/white reptilian creatures recently, or perhaps teal/white/red slug-like entities? Former would be about you size, latter about size of you hand." Ul-Mata hissed softly to itself, as it coiled within De'kra. As his eyes returned to their normal color, De'kra click, "There is something else. In battle Team found series of odd potions that Team is not able to identify. I think I see sage among you, might you be able to identify potions?" Edited May 23, 2012 by Tanma Quote

Can these...things you speak of do that to a person? He did mention somethin' similar to you, but..." Count Knyghton hesitates. "I, uh...I know it's Arthur who said it an' all, but I see no reason why he'd lie about ya losin' yer mem'ry, so you'll understand if I don't recount his version o' events in more detail." "I could take a crack at identifying those potions, if you'd like, mind showing them to us? Luke, come over here, we need your help." Edited May 23, 2012 by Flipz Quote
Tanma Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 IC: De'kra paused and clicked, "No, I not sure how I lost I memory, but those creatures not involve. Almost all of I memory is back now, except what I am/was. But in I memories I recall spheres that were slightly bigger than villagers that could remove memories. Villagers would be lock in spheres, and it would drain their strength and they memories. Powerful evil entity use them to try to brainwash villagers to serve them in past, if not for six noble heroes who rescue memoryless villagers, entire city would have serve evil. In end six heroes gave up all theirpowers to awaken villagers, though villagers still lost their memories. Evil who use spheres could make both slugs and reptilians from his essence, so it might be relevant. Aside from that I not sure, I people different from people of Eubric. For instance I people easily live over one hundred thousand years, and as far as I know humans/elves/orcs/naga/ogres not live so long." OOC: Yeah De'kra remembers everything in Bionicle now, although certain details are sketchier than others. And he still has no clue who or what he is... IC: De'kra shrugged and handed the purple potion over for analysis. Quote

Many thoughts and emotions were running through Xander's head; he was not one to act on emotion, instead dealing with logic and nature's power. Xander recognized many faces, including Luke and Arthur; from experience, he knew these heroes to be good men and women. They were friends, and he could not attack friends. Arthur, however, seemed different-- although similar in appearance, Xander sensed a transformation in being which troubled him. Finally he began to speak, careful to hear the stories of each group. "It is obvious one or both of our groups has been deceived. If we are to get to the bottom of this problem, it might be wise to follow the tan ogre's plan. By mixing party members and splitting up, it ensures that neither group will be deceived again and allows the others to collect information that will paint a more complete picture." Quote

"Your words are wise. You can have Isabella." He throws an angry glare at his original party, as if daring them to defy him. Gingerly taking the purple potion, he unstoppers it and gingerly sniffs it for any clues. OOC: And yes, "Lion-y" is a clue. "Where did you find this, De'kra? And just what HAVE you been up to lately? He notices De'kra looking at the book and adds, "Don't worry about what's in there, it's mostly gibberish and magic runes, trying to get the damn thing working again." All of the previous pages of entries are blank, as are their corresponding pages in De'kra's copy, but Arthur's journal holds two entries of note: Help...something's wrong...something--someone--is blocking my spells...if any of you can read this... It's a trap. After several pages of incoherent ramblings, the last entry is strikingly rational. Dear De'kra, Are you still my friend? Would you still be my friend if you knew who I am? What I've done? I know you can't really read this. I don't even know if you'll ever see this. Even if somehow my magicks are no longer blocked, the damage could be too great for the spell to continue. Would you understand that, De'kra? Something being broken, beyond being fixed? This place drains my very soul, stripping away the masks I put up to hide from myself. I see my true self, and I am afraid. Because I like what I see. Farewell, De'kra. If we meet again, I may not be the same "hero" you once called "friend." --Arthur Quote

Mystery group of Heroes join by rug warrior name Hans. Cronk suspect that Hans might be hero from Quest 7; the Arena. If that so, Wren might be involve in Dastan's troubles. From what I read of known encounters and Wren, she has ability to communicate over long distances and knowledge of magic. Could Wren have disable journals? Lack of communication between two groups here almost cause battle where ally hurt ally, and Wren might enjoy that chaos." After a few glances through the book De'kra put it down. He didn't recall anything exactly like this, but elements of Arthur's writings were familiar. And not in a good way. OOC: plot point or coincidence? Quote
Flipz Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 OOC: It's a plot point, but only for Arthur; not necessarily for the Quest itself. As to the journals, that's basically what I had figured OOC, though perhaps not directly. Wanna know exactly how the journals work? De'kra noticed a set of runes not dissimilar to the writing of his home land, though heavily distorted and interspersed with other, unfamiliar runes. He could make out '-LMAK' and 'K-N-KA', among others. Count Knyghton notices the other party glancing at him and Luke with suspicion, and decided to clear the air. "Ah, I don't believe either of us have formally met any of ya, besides Xander here, o' course. I'm Count Lewis Knyghton, Engineer in service o' tha Lion Knights. Tha Sage is my good friend Luke, he an' I both helped to repel tha invadin' Brobric Elves at Bric'Bay, along with Sir Alexandre, our Knight, and Miss Isabella, tha pretty little Rogue over in tha corner. Watch yer coin purses around her, she's a sneaky lil' devil," he jokes. "Ye've met Arthur already, an' of course you know Xander, they were both at Bric'bay, as well. Master Skrall's tha new addition to tha team, but he's got a sound head on 'is shoulders, he's an ogre of wisdom. He can sure pack a punch with those Hunter skills o' his, though, tha's fer sure!" "Now, don' be intimidated by Luke. I'm a bit harsh at times, but I've never really seen Luke get really mad at anyone--even when they deserve it," he adds with a pointed glance at Arthur. "He's a big softie, a Pacifist, so he don' like ta add his full strength ta his attack, tha way he does fer his healin'. The Strength o' his weapon alone determines how hard he hits tha enemy." He glances at Arthur. "Speakin' o' which, Arthur, it's time ya did somethin' useful fer a change, give Luke yer staff." At Arthur's look of alarm and suspicion, Knyghton rolls his eyes. "Not tha Cultist's staff, ye greedy jerk, tha other one. Tha one that used ta belong ta tha Elven Necromancer." Slightly less suspicious, Arthur hands over his WP:5 Staff of Elven Necromancy to Luke. OOC: Got it. Remember what Arthur's dad is, though, and the way the runes are jumbled together gives a cluse as to they way their spells were designed... "That's...odd. It's part of my father's spell runes, my ancestors have added to and improved on them for generations. Dimension Gates makes sense, though..." Arthur looks up at the others, as if to see if they'd be annoyed by a complex explanation, then decides he doesn't care. "When you write on these journals, you aren't writing on paper. Well, it is paper, but it's not the paper of the journal; in actuality, the pages of each journal are keyed apertures to an individual Semi-Elemental Plane of Eternal Parchment. I understand that some mages gifted in the school of Conjuring draw upon this plane for their Endless Scroll spell, but this usage is far more useful in my view." Arthur pauses for breath and for effect. "Since the apertures are identically keyed for each journal, they open to the same spot, allowing both users to see the same message--it's just like having two windows side by side in different rooms, they both see the same landscape outside. The real genius comes from the zero-mass bonding, which allows the gateways to operate without perspective parallax and with a seamless frame, disguising the device as an ordinary journal." Seeing Skrall giving him the universal look for 'huh?', Arthur grins devilishly and adds, "Yeah, when operational, the device is actually more valuable than the organs and combined incomes of everyone in Eubric." "Ah, it woulda happened sonner or later. Prob'ly better this way, later Arthur might not've been as helpful." Knyghton shakes his head at Arthur's comment and sighs. Quote
Tanma Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 IC: De'kra nodded vaguely and commented, "This Muaka den goes deep. Might you know where you people first learn symbols? Russel appears to have vanished despite being watch constantly, it not look good for him. Although he might believe that as Team not attacking Lion Knights that heroes and I are traitors, so he might be go to report that. Or he is go to get reinforcements, either of misled Dastan doldiers or perhaps other foes. Either way chances are both heroes and I will soon be attack." Quote
Flipz Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Cronk looks around, but strangely Russel is nowhere to be seen. "Cronk? Who are you looking for?" Arthur asks curiously. "Perhaps we should get Skrall to Track them Down?" Arthur looks at the potion, mystified. "Ah, well. Only one way to know for sure. Bottoms up--" Knyghton snatches the vial away before Arthur can drink it. "You. Blithering. Idiot! That could have killed you!" Knyghton pauses for a moment, and then offers it back to Arthur. "On second thought, drink up, 'pal.'" Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Grr. Cronk was afraid of that. If Russel not here, Russel is probably beyond heroes' reach for now. Tanma Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 IC: De'kra nods, before clicking, "Perhaps combine group should split in two, and some of each team go to each group. One group could try to find Russel, or maybe contact Emperor, and other group could go to commander. Also, it possible, though unlikely, that Russel innocent and just thinks that team are traitors, as I earlier suggest. So if group encounters him, not attack unless necessary." De'kra couldn't help but think on the mention of an Olmak in the runes. Just referring that object put the journal system under a new light. Olmak after all didn't mean dimension gates, there were other words for that. Olmak solely refers to the Mask of Dimension Gates, dangerous and rare artifacts. Only two ever exist in the main home, and similar numbers were scattered in the other realities. Those masks were very delicate and easily distorted, not to mention life threatening. Summoning a portal with any distractions or flaws in the mask could spell doom. Arthur was very lucky that they just stopped working, and didn't start working wrong. OOC: see the prior post for De'kra's suggestion. Quote

Tanma Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 IC: De'kra continued to review Arthur's behavior in his mind. Oh he seemed angry and hostile at intervals, but when discussing knowledge he seemed to perk up and in general he didn't seem too twisted. But if one includes his letter, a theory can form. It doesn't work with some aspects of the letter, such as the mention of masks and whatever Arthur had already done, but the latter and to a degree the former could be explained away by occurring after Arthur saw whatever he saw. And if Arthur had seen what De'kra has begun to suspect that he saw, such a react is understandable. The echo comments to himself that he would have to check this possibility with the Count, but it seems quite possible to De'kra. But to Arthur De'kra only clicks, "I suggest be careful about use that journal system from now on. Word Olmak not refer to Dimension Gates, but to Mask of Dimension Gates, much like how Ennoc not mean sun, but God of Sun. It is specific object, rare ones that are almost impossible to make and harder to control. Only three other Masks harder to control, and those are the Masks of Legendary Elements of Life, Time, and Creation. Only person who can even make Olmak is wilder of Mask of Creation, no one else can even come close. It is too great mystery. One need to be careful when use Olmak, power of reality in it." Quote

We've got quite the collection of relics in the Vault back home. Besides, it not like the dimensional targets can be changed or anything..." Quote
Tanma Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 IC: De'kra shook his head and clicked, "Olmak are not to be taken lightly. I knew warrior who use Olmak for much of his life, and had most control of Olmak than anyone. But even he once made a tiony error that sent a Hero hurdle to another reality. Worse, Olmak keep work even if damage. Most Kanohi, or masks, can no longer access their power once damage dealt, and from then on can only be used for the primary purpose of Kanohi. But Olmak can still be used to make dimension gates when damage, and it might seem like nothing wrong and mask. But mask will begin to behave incorrectly, one second you will use Olmak to take shortcut to swamp, next minute you in a reality where most of heroes you know are evil, you never became hero, and entire universe is military state and anyone who pauses for second is assult by police. And that is actual example, not hypothetical. And all Kanohi, no matter how great, suffer natural wear and tear. All masks will become damage eventually, and Olmak are not excluded. Olmak will break down, and they will begin to have errors. I really hope you journal technology not rely on Olmak, because it will not end well." "Still it not as dangerous as Legendary Masks," commented De'kra, "If Kanohi Vahi, Legendary Mask of Time ever broke, time itself would be destroy. Force of time is contain within that mask. Destroy it, and that power is unleash upon universe. Past, present and future all exist at once — warps and rips and hours fold in upon each other — madness and chaos as no two moments ever follow one another ... think of it. It would be total Karzahni, and it could not be undone. Similarly is Kanohi Ignikia, Mask of Life. Destroy it, and life no longer exists or can exist. Worse, if Ignikia detect something drastically wrong and universe, like evil control it, it will destroy all life regardless of condition of mask. And if Mask of Creation is destroy, no one will be able to make anything ever again, not even ideas. There is reason why even weakest Kanohi like Noble Masks of Invisibility or Illusions can only be use by select few. Most people not able to handle such power...." Quote

"Hrm...I was beginning to like Russel. Someone who leads me to dragon hating cultistsss tends to get on my good side. If we cannot find him now then we should speak to the commander. But our mission, directly from the emperor, was to gather these weapons. We will bring them with us to talk to the commander. But we'll also shut the back door we came in from. Quote
JimBee Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Sarick helps gather up the weapons and closes the door they came through. Will both parties confront the commanding officer, or will they split up? Quote
