Staggering back from the swordsman's blow, Nerwen was relieved to see the armoured form of Cronk step before her. She had not yet landed a strike on an enemy this battle, but had twice healed her companions. Surely this was a sign from the elven deities about her future path.

Seeing Galen now hurt badly, she turned a said.

I will heal you, save your potions...

As he fell down on his knees again, blood gushing from his wounds, Galen felt tired and miserable. Here he was, spilling his blood on foreign soil for Emperors who wouldn't remember his name once he left Dastan. If he ever left Dastan.

He only had returned to Dastan because needed the money. He had grim memories of his past travels here, stealing food from street vendors and sleeping with the homeless. Truth to be told, he was homeless himself. He had followed the slave traders caravans to Dastan on yet another wild-goose chase... What were the odds of finding one woman who could be anywhere on this world by now, two years after her disappearance? Lady Luck hadn't helped him much on his quests so far. Not only he was nowhere closer to real clues of Brianna's whereabouts, but he hadn't managed to raise money and enrol helpers either. Who would want to help a pennyless rogue fighting with a borrowed sword?

The soothing magic of Nerwen pulled his thoughts back to the present. After he fulfilled his duty to the Emperor, he would leave Heroica. Far from the riches and reputation he thought he would gain by joining the shining hope of Eubric, he only reaped pain and misery. Brianna couldn't wait forever, and he had spent far too much time toiling for others' benefit.

Slowly pulling himself to his feet, Galen attacks the Emeraldo Lancer from the front row.

IC: De'kra spotted Galan making a move for the Lancer and clicked, "You should not risk it. Single hit from any foe, regardless of row, will defeat you right now. You will be knock out at least, dead at most. Team's healer will probably restore you health in time for you turn, but if something goes wrong, you will be incredible vulnerable. It is you decision, but be careful."

Galen found the shade's words strangely appropriate, as if he could read his inner turmoil. Had he become so transparent? Or perhaps De'kra was more than a simple rogue. He belonged to a species beyond Galen's comprehension, and who knew what they were capable of.

"I would feel much better if I knew for sure that our efforts will be rewarded. As it stands it's by no means certain that Emperor Rolando will honour his word and pay us for our troubles. Especially after fighting his own troops."

Cronks swings Zoot's Bane at the Swordsman, but he raises his own sword in defense, and quickly turns Cronk's sword to a weak point in his armor. The paladin suffers 12 damage. De'kra receives the blunt end of the Mage's staff (10), but Xander swings his ax into the Lancer for 33 damage. Sarick again calls forth the power of lightning, striking every enemy still standing for 15 damage each, which defeats the Lancer. Nerwen performs a weak healing spell on Galen, which restores 8 health but it is not enough. The rogue charges at the Swordsman, but the blade master simply dodges and stabs Galen through the stomach, felling him.

One ally is down, but the battle is merciless.

Xander glanced in the direction of Galen, the momentum of his swing bringing his eyes to the limp body of his friend. He immediately dropped his weapon and felt for his back pocket, making sure he still had the magical potion. Phoenix essence in hand, he raced to the side of Galen and prepared the medicine.

OOC: You want me to revive you Fugazi? Seems kind of unfair to autoplay the next round without giving you a chance to get some exp. If you don't want me to use it then I'll have to have another character stop me from doing the action.

IC: De'kra signed with relief, it seemed like the rogue was not beyond healing. "I will try to guard you from attackers while you heal him," clicked De'kra, as he whipped Kapura about.

OOC: it won't be De'kra who stops you, if we didn't auto play I had played for to try to revive Galan.

The lightning from Sarick's magical burst illuminated the blade that felled Galen. Sarick reached into his pouch for his pheonix essence when he recalled that he had already used it before. He then saw that Xander had one ready to go. "If you are raising Galen back to his feet, then I shall continue my assult." Sarick continued his attack against the Emeraldo Mage from the back row with frost magic.

IC: As De'kra readied for battle he clicked "Okay, so his wounds are not extremely urgent? He definitly stronger than I was in I first Quest. But are you sure heroes and I not need to revive him before battle end? I am not too much of heavy hitter, I could use Phoenix Essence to heal him in place of Hammer hero? I will trust you judgement if you think it would be unnecessary, but last time I saw hero fall, he not come all way back." If Nerwen disagrees with using the Phoemix Essence or if Xander does it instead, De'kra will attack the mage from the back row.

OOC: I appreciate the offer, but at this point in the battle I wouldn't make a difference, and it's more reasonable to save the Phoenix Essence for later on when we might need it more. Who knows if we will have a chance to buy any before the end of the quest. Hurry up and end this battle so we can move on!

I fear I am playing into Arthur's warning to De'kra.

Seeing Xander wheel his horse and turn his back on the lancer, Nerwen surmised he was going to revive the rogue. She stepped between the fallen man and the mounted barbarian and spoke loudly over the din of the battle.

Do not worry about Galen, he is not in serious danger. We can serve him best by ending this battle quickly, then treating him. Delaying to assist him may put the Emperor's life in greater peril from the traitor Russel. Though I do not like leaving him like this, we must consider the greater good.

With that, Nerwen puts her words to action as she charges the swordsman close from the front row.

Yes I know it risks knocking Nerwen out, but it's the IC thing to do here as atonement of watning Xander off reviving him. Carman, can you put me way down the order, I'm going to trust that we can finish this before I need to attack, or if my strike is needed, that I'm not KO'd...

Hearing Nerwen's words, Xander reluctantly rose from the body of Galen, latching the potion back onto his belt. He did not like the idea of leaving a fallen hero lie on the ground needlessly; however, he would heed the words of the elf, whose knowledge of the healing arts were far greater than his.

With a determined look on his face, Xander readied his axe and aimed an attack at the swordsman from the front row.

Sarick vs. Mage - Special Damage Miss

Cronk tries to Cronk Smash the Swordsman, but the foe is too quick, it seems, and nicks his cheek for 1 damage. Xander comes swinging with his ax, misses the Mage, but then spins around and slices him for 8 damage. Vengefully, the Mage casts a wind spell on De'kra (5), but Nerwen finally finds her inner strength and smashes the Swordsman with Peace for 20 damage, bringing another enemy to the ground. Sarick casts another ice spell, but it misses.

Since there is only one enemy remaining with low health, the next round will be played automatically.

Results of Round 8 of Battle of Betrayal:

Cronk vs. Mage - Damage

Xander vs. Mage - Hit

The Mage inflicts 1 point of damage on Cronk before Xander fends him off, and defeats him with his ax.

The battle is victorious!

IC: De'kra signs with relief that the battle is over, though his health was low. "Team quite wound," commented the echo as he stood up, "Healers have enough power? If there is not enough, I could take potion or two. Either way Team need to move on after Tussel. I figure that leader should get Sapphire, as only he can use it, Cronk should probably get Lance as it is only for knights. On matter of gold, if divide into shares perhaps Galen get larger portion?"

De'kra noted that Galen was back on his feet, Nerwen had been right. Still, the healer had sounded kind of apathetic, which was slightly troubling. Of course, De'kra had known champions of good who seemed indifferent to the plights of others, so it wasn't too distressing. Though it was something to note.

OOC: I have to ask, why is Cronk still stunned?
