Heroica RPG - Quest #29: Journey to Dastan

IC: De'kra fell back as the Rito pierced his chest, though to a degree the pain was welcomed. It was...distracting, that pain, it kept his mind off the battle he was participating in. Not to mention that he felt relief that he had not harmed a feather-flyer. But even as he recovered, De'kra saw the falcon burn to ashes.

It was horrifying, to see the proud bird melt away into the inferno of heat, though it was better than seeing the mangled corpse of the flyer. At least this way the bird's remains won't be spoiled, and it might still fly by way of the breeze. Still, De'kra couldn't help but shudder as the bird faded into the stuff of stars, a terrible taste in his hands.

Still gripped by the horror, De'kra managed to whip out Chiara. The echo's strategy would remain the same, he would attack from the back row and be fighting Flavius.

Xander was locked in a battle with Flavius, repeating his action from the previous round.

Sarick smiled at the gust of wind. 'This power will be helpful in crossing the seas' he thought. Sarick burped and then frowned. The wind had not knocked his target down as he had hoped. Digesting the falcon was making him slightly tired but he continued to attack Denerii from the back row with wind magic.

Nerwen saw that the party was in good shape. Although, the Rito were tough and this would still be a long battle. Knowing she could not take a hit from either of them she healed herself while in the back row so that she'd be able to engage them next round.

Nyx stretches, bones clicking, and a grin spreads once more across her face. "Now that's some good healing; this Cleric can actually heal! I wonder if she ever met that nice Sir Poletad?" she thinks to herself. She straightens and looks at the remaining enemies with a glint in her eyes whilst beginning to summon the power of the Wind from the back row.

"Eeny meeny miney.... mo"

Nyx counts between the two foes with her gloved finger... landing on Denerii

She grins some more.

Xander charges at Flavius and slams him once more with his hammer (-[10x3]+13=43). Flavius takes to the skies before De'kra can raise his weapon, and hovers far out of the heroes' reach. Sarick and Nyx stand side by side, each ecstatic after a series of strong magic bursts, and fire twin beams of wind that rip through Denerii (-([6x2]+10)x2=44)(-([13x3]+19)x2=116). Nerwen, calm at heart, cannot focus with the screams of pain and the great blowing of the wind, and is unable to heal herself.

Xander followed Flavius with his eyes as he soared up in the sky; he would have to wait. Turning his attention to Denerii, he readied an attack from the front row.

Nyx repeats her attack, casting Wind magic on Denerii from the back row.

IC: De'kra chirps with frustration as the battle continues. He could have hit Flavius, he had had the Rito in his sights, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. He couldn't land a blow, not against ones such as they. It was just too much againsthis nature.

"I am hurt Team more than I help," he clicked as Flavius flew too far away to fight, "I cannot bring myself to fight them, and when I try I feel too wrong to fight. Divide warrior cannot stand. I will t-try to attack D-Denerii if Team think I up to it, but if Leader think it best I will sit it out and maybe use potion."

The echo readied himself to attack from the back row with Chiara once more, though his heartlight was not in it,

Feeling her focus spin off, Nerwen grasped for the trailing edge of the healing energy, but was unable to draw the surge back. However, since no one else needed it she tried healing herself again. Standing in the back row she resumed the soft chanting that helped her connect with the music of Galadrya. Although while she did so, she kept a keen elvish eye on the high flying Rito. Discerning his intention to dive back into the fray and causes free hit, she asked Sarick between snatches of tune,

who will take the free hit from the Rito?

Before returning to her music.

Nerwen's ether should be 11/12 since I healed Nyx. Thanks Zepher.

No criticism intended! I know you're doing a lot of hard work. I, for one, am grateful!

Whilst chanting Netwen could feel the world moving about her. Big things were happening in Dastan. The battle here was but one in a much larger symphony. She thought of the other heroes they had met,, the party from which Nyx had come and of Cronk and Galen, somewhere in Dastan, battling Celebryon knew what. Her resolve to prove the teams worth in this combat and bring the Rito to the aid of the people of Dastan in their hour of need was strengthened.

Nyx starts the round off strong. She shoots a powerful blast of fire at her opponent (-[(13x2)+19]x2=90). The rest of the round goes more poorly. Xander and De'kra are unable to reach the flaming bird, and the winged creature is able to loose an arrow at Sarick, cutting his health in half and stunning him. Nerwen remains unable to heal herself. She feels a shiver run down her spine and a whispered phrase is chanted in the back of her head. Flavius swoops down from on high and slams an arrow into Nyx's left leg (-6).

IC: De'kra swings in vain once more, unable to hit the avian. He was trying to help, this was not just a show, but he just couldn't harm Flavius or Deneii. It was too far beyond him. The echo clicked, "Odds are I am not go to hit either of them anytime soon, it just not within I. Team have any suggestions?"

De'kra checked to see if Flavius was vulnerable. If he was and the Team did not have a better plan. De'kra would attack him from the back row using Chiara.

I'm sorry, I have been running the battle as if you've been using the club. I see now, re-reading, that you used the ax with JimBee, but I don't believe that it was ever bolded during this battle, and since the club was stronger and listed first in the inventory I've been reading (party list), I assumed that you would use it. I can replay this last round with your ax if you like. I also can't find the mechanics of the ax anywhere, so... how does it work? It says "Aim" next to it's name, but you're saying that it adds the hastened effect? Sorry.

From here on out though I'll be using the axe, I'll be sure to state it next time. And the axe basically lets me roll again if the first roll is a Miss, thus "double-sided".

As Nerwen began gathering her healing power she noted thatSarick was not only hurt but stunned. He seemed unable to even speak, the previous arrow had hurt him so much. She spoke up.

The two Rito are targeted, we need not worry about free hits. Sarick will recover from shock next round. In the meantime, Nyx, strike first, Xander can follow you.

Sarick stunned

Nyx fires a blast of wind that knocks Denerii clear out of the skies. The Rito lands heavily and then rolls down the hill and does not move, though De'kra is able to see her chest rising and falling, indicating she was still very much alive. Xander launches himself at Flavius, wielding his trusty Battle Ax, always a crowd pleaser. He lands an impressive hit (-[6x3]+13=31) that causes his opponent to lurch out of the skies. As he regains his footing, De'kra stabs the creature in the back (-([5x3]+15)x2=60). He also steals gold out of the Rito's pouch equal to that amount. Nerwen is unable to get her magic to work, though Sarick independently shakes off the effects of the stunning and feels his head clear.

Sarick's eyes came back in focus. He remembered creating a lot of wind and an arrow flying at his chest. Sarick looked down to see the arrow still embedded in him. He quickly pulled it out and assessed the scene. One foe left and the team in relatively good health. Sarick attacked Flavius from the back row with wind magic while saying, "Nerwen, can you throw a heal my way?"

The whispering in the back of Nerwen's mind was hard to shake. She knew there was more going on here than simply this battle. Invoking a complex counter-chant, Nerwen sang in harmony with herself, matching the whistling of the wind across the barren, rocky battlefield. Once again directing her healing power at Sarick. Although there was only one foe remaining now, she was careful to stay well out of reach in the back row but gave herself room to perform the deft hand movements that, coupled with her voice, were intended to rid her of the invasive presence blocking the proper channeling of healing.
