Marvel_Geek Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I agree. For mine I think I'm going to add chains and a different weapon. Quote
Krikkit Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Chains was a nice idea, I was trying to think of a way to get this on his back, I have no blue tac... Used a better Camera now. World War Hulk! Quote
Marvel_Geek Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Is that a normal size chain if so how snug is it ? Quote
Krikkit Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Still has enough play. Ill get a better pic tomorrow evening. Quote
Marvel_Geek Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Ok. I'm planning on not making that hulk until I have the green goblin minifigure to replace the big fig. Can't wait until August when the spiderman sets come out. Quote
MattZitron Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Krikkit - maybe use a Bionicle piece as a shield. Quote
Cheatster9000x Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Right. I have a couple of quick questions on where the lines meet in terms of purist/customising. 1) If I purchase a keychain fig and cut it loose with a pair of cutters so I can use the head or something (I'm thinking of using the chrome gold fig), does this count as modifying the figure? 2) If I buy a bootleg version of an official figure to use parts (Maybe somebody can fill my query before I test it: Symbiote Spider-Man Head and Batman Cowl for Black Panther), does this count as purist? Quote
MattZitron Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hey dude I'd say no on both. But don't be put off. Make them and make your own thread on the Minifig Customisation board. Purist figures are only made with OFFICIAL Lego pieces (and I'd say stickers that came in an official set.) No cutting, gluing, painting. Quote
K-Nut Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 1) If I purchase a keychain fig and cut it loose with a pair of cutters so I can use the head or something (I'm thinking of using the chrome gold fig), does this count as modifying the figure? 2) If I buy a bootleg version of an official figure to use parts (Maybe somebody can fill my query before I test it: Symbiote Spider-Man Head and Batman Cowl for Black Panther), does this count as purist? 1) Not entirely sure. I recall a while back someone used the arms and legs off of the chrome red VIP keychain for their Iron Man. I wouldn't consider tearing a keychain apart as not purist, seeing as it's a LEGO party. 2) As long as it would be the same as using official parts, I would say yes. There's a few of my figures that I can't bring myself to tear apart. I'd say no on both. I think the second one works at least for giving out ideas. The physical figure itself wouldn't be purist, but it's still a purist idea and design. Quote
Marvel_Geek Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hey here's a current list of minifigures I'm working on. Gwen Stacy She-Hulk Dum dum dugan ( won't have made until August) Speed Agent May (agents of shield) Rocket racer Quote
Silent Nomad Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I'm not sure why, but no one said anything about my yellow lantern Batman, either positively or negatively. What did you all think of it? It's a few pages back by now, right here. Quote
MattZitron Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Silent Nomad - great figure. Will you do a Batman GL as well? I really hope they do the other coloured Lanterns. Quote
Marvel_Geek Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Ya I want to see the orange lanterns in the near future. Quote
MAB Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 1) If I purchase a keychain fig and cut it loose with a pair of cutters so I can use the head or something (I'm thinking of using the chrome gold fig), does this count as modifying the figure? For me that is non-purist. Taking legs off hips and arms off torsos is fine, as they can always be put back on (and the parts are as available in sets). However, cutting / breaking even gear means modifying. 2) If I buy a bootleg version of an official figure to use parts (Maybe somebody can fill my query before I test it: Symbiote Spider-Man Head and Batman Cowl for Black Panther), does this count as purist? Again, not purist since it is non-lego even if a copy of a lego part. I have no problem with people modifying or using fakes (I do it myself too!), but don't call them purist. Quote
Amset-Rah Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Yeah I wouldn't call bootlegs purist, obviously. Good for customs, since I used a Decool Deadpool head for Red Hood, but I can't post it here since the Deadpool head's a fake. Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Honestly, my policy has always been "if there's a clear purist analog to whatever parts you're using, it's purist enough for the forum to benefit". If you can't shell out a couple hundred dollars for a legit Deadpool figure, using a knockoff head is fine, since we know we can use the official Deadpool head for it. It doesn't hurt to state that, though, and making it a habit is a bad idea. Some of my figures use technically non-purist trench coats made from capes, but I figure that you can make the figure without it or just using the cape if you want, and the principle is the important part. All in all, this feels like semantics. We could just as easily argue that the excellent Galactus and Strongman builds shouldn't be allowed because they aren't technically figures, but we shouldn't, because that's not the point of the thread. Just my opinion, though. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 All in all, this feels like semantics. We could just as easily argue that the excellent Galactus and Strongman builds shouldn't be allowed because they aren't technically figures, but we shouldn't, because that's not the point of the thread. The thread is titled Purist Superhero Figures - meaning Superheroes built solely out of official, unmodified LEGO product, whatever that product is, or whatever shape the figure takes, be it brick-built or minifigure(If it was titled minifigure, it would be restricted to minifigures, but it isn't, and it isn't.). In this case, semantics do matter. Perhaps a second thread called "Near-Purist Superhero Figures" should be created, where people can post figures built using knock-offs or copies? Quote
LuxorV Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Please, let's cool down on this debate. This thread is indeed for purist figures only, as stated in the title and in the first post. I know some quasi-purist (coats from capes and the like) entries have been put in here and there, and we had no problems up to now. So, let's keep things that way. For actual non-purist customs (and the use of knockoff parts falls under that definition), people have had a habit of opening dedicated topics, and I'd invite everybody to do so in the future. This is just to make things clear and keep the 'faction' debates to a minimum. Now, let's enjoy the customs. Thanks everybody. Quote
Silent Nomad Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Silent Nomad - great figure. Will you do a Batman GL as well? I really hope they do the other coloured Lanterns. I wasn't planning on it. The only reason I did the YL Batman is because he appears in the LB3 game exactly as I made him (except for the facial expression, but all of the Batman variants in LB3 have that expression, so I overlooked that). My original plan was to keep the YL torso's yellow hands, and that's what I would have done if I hadn't seen the LB3 version. Right now I see my YL Batman as being a 75th anniversary Batman tribute, since that's the DLC in which it appears in LB3. Quote
ReZourceman Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I made a video of my now 319 strong minifigure collection! Quote
Zergos Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 So I'm stuck for what to do next. I feel the need to keep uploading, but I don't have any solid ideas. Give me some ideas please :) Quote
Cheatster9000x Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Ok, I brought up an idea earlier in the topic but it was buried in the "What's purist" debate. Symbiote Spidey head plus Batman Cowl = Black Panther? Also, what torso would you guys recommend for a Captain Universe Spidey? I've got everything else covered, I just need a torso. Quote
Rinzler Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 So I'm stuck for what to do next. I feel the need to keep uploading, but I don't have any solid ideas. Give me some ideas please :) What about Daniel West? As far as I know you haven't uploaded him yet Quote
Captain Nemo Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Pied Piper Parts include a Jawa head and the back print of the Angelica torso from the PotC line. Quote
