Endgame Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 "Ah, I see what you mean Sorrow, but there must be a trick to it other than guessing which goes in first. If my memory is correct, we got the parasol from Peggy, then the fallen leaf from Sandy, the toy lamb from Buzzy, and the sled from Snowy. If the doors only let you into each realm once, then perhaps they make you go into each realm in order? That would imply that the order is: parasol, leaf, lamb, sled. And if that is correct, we don't need to worry about which one goes in first." "Or, when the armour first spoke to us, it said 'leave now.' Maybe the leaf goes first? " Erik turn to the skull and says: "I don't suppose you can give us any more hints?" "...Did you not hear the part about the seasons? Each realm represented a season, as did the item within. if we take this into acount, the order should be Leaf, Sled, Lamb (Sheep are herded in spring and mate), and Parasol (blocks the summer heat). Did my edit go through on the original guess? Quote
Myrddyn Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 "Ah, yes, I did, but I'm not sure why you think Autumn would go first." Quote
Endgame Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 "Ah, yes, I did, but I'm not sure why you think Autumn would go first." "Why wouldn't it? it was also the first item we aqquired. Autumn is truly as good of a guess as any other season. The only other contender is Winter, because the New Year begins in winter. But ask anyone to list the seasons in order on Eubric. nearly everyone would start with Autumn." Quote
Myrddyn Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 But we got the parasol first. And inside this mansion, we may not even be in Eubric." Quote
Endgame Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 But we got the parasol first. And inside this mansion, we may not even be in Eubric." "...Eeep. Apparently crouching in the back of one's mind sipping mental cocoa is bad for one's memory. I'm certain that the seasonal rotation is right, but where does one start...?" I look towards the rest of the party. "Suggestions?" Quote
Rumble Strike Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 I will give you no help and no clues; between the 5 of you, you should be able to work this out. Quote
Endgame Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 "Looking back, considering Winter is the start of the year - the necromancers I grew up with called the wondrous snowy period "January" - the Sled most likely goes first. That means that next would be the Lamb, Parasol, and finally leaf." "Any other suggestions? if not that's our best bet." Quote

Endgame Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 "What if it was the order of the items we were given? If it was, it could be Summer, Autmmn, Spring, Winter." "That kind of defies the whole point of the whole "seasonal" thing though, doesn't it? Spring comes after Winter." Quote
Myrddyn Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) "But Mr Talking Skull never said anything about seasons. You just assumed that the items had something to do with seasons. If you can figure out which item should go in first and a reason for it, I may agree with you. However, while your idea about the items each representing a different season seems good, it gives us no clue as to which item goes first." EDIT: "Maybe you are right, Syntax, and the items do match seasons, but perhaps the order has something to do with the clothes of the children. - I believe the first child we met was dressed for winter, although the place he was in certainly didn't warrant that sort of clothing. The second was dressed either for autumn or spring, with the next child dressed for either spring or autumn. And the last child was dressed for summer, despite being in the snow, I think." (page 5, warm coat implies winter) (page 10, either autumn or spring) (page 15, either spring or autumn) (and page 21, the light shirt and bare arms implies summer.) "Ah, perhaps the overalls of the third child imply harvesting, which would be done in spring." "So, if my newest theory is correct, then the order is: Sled, leaf/lamb, lamb/leaf, parasol." xxlrocka Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 "Oh, how I hate puzzles. But because I have to do this, I shall be kind and join in." "Yeah, so will I. Maybe the lamb actually goes first, then the parasol, then the fallen leaf and finally the sled." Said both Drake and Dak. Quote

So far Erik's theory seems to be the best. What season is it now Hlin? Quote

Rumble Strike Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 It's a sequence, there are no clues, inscriptions or anything beyond what is already provided. One of you has stated the correct answer. Quote

Endgame Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 "If we interpret the overalls kid as Spring (harvest time), that would make the order Sled, Leaf, Lamb, Parasol. If there are no objections to this, into the cauldron they shall go. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 Hlin stopped Sorrow putting the items in. "Maybe this is a regional thing? Where I am from, I like the sound of Drake's order for the items. They correspond to the calendar seasons that way." Sorry guys, I know we have at least two Aussies here and the seasons as we learned them in England might be moved along due to our winter being their summer, which I believe is where the confusion is. It's interesting that xxlrocka give the sequence in the order I was expecting as he is also from England. Apologies again, I obviously hadn't thought this one through enough Quote

Costy Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 "Really?" What did you expect from a yeti? Warm days full of sunshine? It's freezing day and night. We are the only species that is brave or crazy enough to live there. We do however find it nice to be away from the rest of the world and you humans fighting over everything thinking you're so good. You quarrel and fight with each other when there are criminals running around and you are too bothered about what other people are doing to actually do anything yourself. Quote
