Quick question. When will the prizes be announced? Seems pointless to enter (or at least add your entry) when nearly 1 month into the contest there are no prizes listed. I mean why enter before you know what you are looking at or there is really an award to make it worth while and fun to try your hand at? I'm about ready to enter a model, but do not want to do so until the prizes are announced and I see the contest is fully thought out.

[snip]

I see your frustration but I don't see contests as prize-bagging events, but ways to build together as a community and see what every one else can come up with! :classic: But yes, prizes are pretty awesome when they come as an added bonus

My thought is that the prizes in these big contests rarely suck. Even if the prizes are so so, a free Lego set is a free Lego set, and that doesn't make me enjoy competing any less. :classic:

As far as the rules change, I feel that two months is plenty of time to refine my design to account for any new clarifications.

I agree, and have been refining my model per the clarifications. However I would like to know more specifics, or at least know the rules are pretty much solid, as I've never seen any contest so loosely outlined and prone to changes before. As I said, clarification is great though and helps everyone know what to expect/follow.

The thing that irks me most is the new members getting in on this when the reason I joined the site in the first place was a similar contest which I was banned from since I was not a member at the time it began. I learned my lesson there and joined for next time (and in the meantime have used the site more than otherwise), so this aspect changing in the middle of a contest I can finally enter I guess just rubs me wrong since it was used previously to keep me out of the field of eligible entrants. It is one thing to start an open contest, but anther to change this major classification requirement a quarter of the way through the entry period. Granted EuroBricks can do as they please, but I just wanted to express my view in light of last time I wanted to enter and was not allowed per the posted rules.

Also, I'm not sure what the "vote" ability only for prior members has to do with this as it is not mentioned in the rules post...?

Please note that the rules have been changed so that members who joined after the contest announcement was posted are allowed to enter. Members who joined in May 2012 or later will not be allowed to vote for their favourite entries though.

This is good news for me.. I shall pick up the pace on my corner modular building, which has been sitting for awhile without much progress.

Indeed, and I'm looking forward to what everyone can come up with. :classic:

The only rule change has been that new members can now enter. The way I see it is that, through contests like this, we might be able to attract builders who did not post their MOCs on EB before, join and become active on the site. All the other points addressed by the staff were clarifications.

As far as I know, most EB contests (except for raffles) allow new members to enter, but not vote. I honestly don't quite understand what you seem to be getting so worked up about. We simply want as many high-quality entries as possible in this contest and if we can get a few people to join EB and enter then that's good for the contest and the site.

It will be a 'rule' once voting starts. This is to avoid entrants asking their friends and family to join just to vote.

what do they mean with: and should include a sidewalk in accordance with the modular buildings, where applicable. i think that you most make a sidewalk from the road but i'm not sure

They mean it must be a similar size and style to the other modular sets. 1x light-bley curb and at least five studs deep dark-bley tiles, usually 2x2, for the rest of the sidewalk.

I'm over it now. :classic: Was mostly just the initial change in light of passed missed contests, but I do agree having more good entries is always fun. Looking forward to entering though I'll probably wait a bit just to not be the first.

BTW, is there a way to find past entries? So far I cannot find anything....and this thread can even be difficult.

Searching for them works. Use the search term "modular madness" (in quotes), hit titles only, and select the Town forum.

I have a question about combining buildings that are narrower than 32 studs and combining them as a set on a 32×32 base plate. I am aware that clarification has been given regarding two 16×32 buildings combined as one set. Just to be on the safe side, I am curious whether it is also allowed to include a 8×32 modular. I have just finished one recently and I believe it fits in with the other modulars and also gives a nice variety in the street. Once again, I'm sorry if this specific question has been answered before (I have checked the thread and the rules, but I might have overlooked something).

For the connection points, can we use bricks other than the 1x2 bricks with one hole if they do the same function? For example, could I use a 1x4 brick with three holes or a 1x2 brick with a plus hole?

Great prices! Thanks EB for them!

It seems that we already have very nice buildings.

The competition is already hight!

Can't wait to see all the entries!

Nice prizes indeed! I already have one Town Hall, but if I manage to win another I can try out the alternative building instructions from Brick City Depot.

But so now I have one more question:

If my model consists of two 16x32 buildings that sit next to one another, can the backs of them have fallen away, as if because of an earthquake? Or maybe even cut away by a wormhole opening in space and time? Or must they be complete in every way?
