Could Technic Star Wars Ever Come Back?

I miss having the Star Wars sets in the Technic line. There were some really great sets, especially the Hailfire Droid and the Destroyer Droid.

Could LEGO re-introduce the Star Wars theme to the Technic line? It would be a great opportunity to add more variety and colors, especially brown.

What do you all think?

personally, i prefer the ucs series to the technic models. attention to detail is part of what makes star wars so appealing; detailed models cater better to that appeal.

That's probably true, but I did like the variety that Star Wars brought to the Technic line. It was a nice change from the typical set based off some piece of machinery. We had all kinds of colors not normally used in the Technic line; like green, tan, brown, and even purple.

My favorite was the Destroyer Droid

Unfortunately, the only Technic Star Wars set I have is Darth Vader:

I bought it because I found it on sale, but it did have some really great pieces. I'm even thinking about using the helmet on a future moc of mine.

The newer Star Wars sets lost some of their appeal to me when they started using all those ball-joint pieces for the arms and legs.

I'm not sure why sets such as the Hailfire were discontinued, but I'm fairly certain that the Technic figures were cancelled because Hasbro complained that by selling those, TLG was selling Star Wars action figures. (which Hasbro owns the license to) The Technic figures disappeared around the same time that the collector's sets with the Star Wars minifigs sold by themselves with the display cards disappeared. Legal issues with Hasbro mean that TLG has to sell Star Wars figures as "accessories to building kits" (such as a vehicle in a set), so I would imagine that that's why those Technic sets which contained nothing but one figure were discontinued.

Now i am now where the brown parst were just in, technic Starwars sets.

For mine tugboat i haved jused it but it's whas hard too find and expensive.

They may bring back the Technic Star Wars line once Hasbro loses their, or more likely needs to sing another, contract with Lucas Arts. Hasbro consideres these figures as "action figures" Which they're NOT, they're technical figures which are used to show functions and building techniques. But this would be a great opportunity to reintroduce the old Bionicle parts and the Hailfire Droid wheels, and they would be updated with the new colors and newer/updated pieces. This would also be yet another opportunity for Lego to get more fans, as these models would be more accurate to the movies (Especially droids) and would attract fans that would like more of a challenge then a playset. These would also bring in more functionality for Star Wars and would bring in a great opportunity for experimental pieces and new pieces as long with the addition of older pieces. This would be a great investment for Lego if they get the chance to bring back this line.

The Star Wars Technic Sets certainly offered some amazingly crazy parts...

As far as Detail goes, Drakmin's Technic Star Wars Models are very detailed... These would make really awesome sets...

Funny, I was recently building Technic lightsabers for Star Wars Day. I thought it would be nice to have them again since I missed out first time around. Brown beams would be great for building Steampunk Technic MOCs.

true, that. i do like them; in fact, i own each of them except 3ppo, including 4 destroyer droids! loved the brown! my very first two post-dark ages sets were 7181 and 7191; they were so vastly superior to the sets of my childhood that i couldn't wait for more models with those same sensibilities.

you know, i have to agree with pretty much everything you've said, point for point.

i always thought a pair of those would make for nifty shoulder armor on a mech. give it that gwar touch!

Personally, I doubt it. The Star Wars Technic sets were not very popular which was evidenced by the fact that they were on clearance everywhere only shortly after they went on sale. They stayed on clearance for a long time and nobody bought them. My feeling is that, even though Star Wars as a theme is immensely popular, System people just aren't at all interested in Technic building. This is obvious at any convention. At the same time, most of the sets didn't really have much of any functionality so they were not appealing to Technicophiles either. This made them products without an audience. Obviously, there are exceptions (I bought them all), but truthfully I wouldn't have bought any of the figures after the first Pit Droid if I had not been so obsessive about collecting.

The Destroyer Droid is the one bright spot with its marvelous folding mechanism. The Hailfire Droid doesn't do much of anything but is notable for those unique gear wheels.

You are right about the colors. I think the popularity of the Star Wars line allowed the team a part budget that Technic would never otherwise have. This allowed all the unique colors that would never have otherwise been offered. Oddly, the other place to get rare Technic colors was from the Roboriders and Throwbots/Slizers.
