KimT Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 First let me say that I never imagined buying anything bionicle themed, but this set proves it wrong. I bought it on sale and decided to do a review before I split it into a zillion pieces again (this has already been done - so no more pics) This is the set to be reviewed: And to start things of here's the lot of Bionicle minifigs: I think they're pretty neat and the teeth and eyes are printed on, which means NO STICKERS *y* *y* Then we have some accesories, a pair of surfboards with launchers mounted. Not much in my liking, but I think they'll do fine in the hands of a 10 years old boy. "Surf's up!" X-D The bridge and towers actually look quite cool and has a lot of dark blue slopes and arches that'll spice up anyones brickcollection: On both towers the shield on top is a release mechanism that'll (if hit by the surflaunchers) let go of either the left or right side of the bridge. Behold!: Also the two towers has portocullis (spelled like this?) that's released and pulled back up quite easily. Lots of play there *y* The only "downside" :-| is the raised baseplates (BURPs one might call them): Final verdict: Playability 10/10 launchers, collapsing bridge, portocullis, surfboards, minifigs... *y* *y* Design: 7/10 very open design - I'd rather have the ol' style like classic castle :-| Awesome bridge. Colours 8/10 great use of dark blue and black, the BURPS are awful, silvery bionicle parts *n* *n* Stability 9/10 I tried rocking and tumbling this thing and it still kept together, the surfboards are quite useless though Minifigs 9/10 nearly perfect, they'll do well as supplemental parts for my exo-robots or as an addition *y* All in all 8/10 - this is purely based on loving bionicle (which I don't). Great set for spare parts and if a fan of bionicle also a great playset that'll keep one playing for hours and hours. BTW the shiny bionicle parts and launchers are soon to be sold on eBay, should anyone be interested that is. :-P X-D Enjoy and PLAY ON! KimT EDIT: ups I forgot more pics here when public Quote
Zane Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I'll likely get this reduced. It seems to be the best, if simpliest, of the Bionicle System sets. Thanks for the review! Oh, you're not putting the minifigs on eBay, are you?? Quote
xwingyoda Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Loooool Kim, you actually built that set ?? I only bought it for parts and never took the time to build it :-P The only thing I did was a supped up ball launcher looool *yoda* Quote
DoubleT Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 the minifigs are really nice, allthough thhe weapons takes alitle time to get use to.. but good for some speciel parts i guess? Nice Review *sweet* Quote
Kahgarak Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 So,the BioBURPS are hollow?I think i can use that piece very well. Good set, nice collapse mechanism and wonderful figs! :'-) Quote
snefroe Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 think it's crap, really... no not the review, the set... X-D i don't see much Lego in this set! are you sure it's Lego? I don't think so... looks like 'Fisher Price' with studs... Quote
Zarkan Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I don't think so... looks like 'Fisher Price' with studs... Fisher Price? Looks like real lego to me.... 8-| But then again, I really didn't expect you to say anything good anyway, Sne. :-P BTW, nice review, Kimt. I agree, the big Burps are pretty bad, but overall I like this set. Has a lot of play value in it, from what I've seen, and the figures are great! I'm just disapointed about the weapons, because they look nothing like the full sized figure's weapons. Man, alot of them don't even look like weapons at all! *wacko* Oh well, still a good kit. ;-) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 17, 2006 Governor Posted November 17, 2006 The only "downside" :-| is the raised baseplates (BURPs one might call them): I've been wondering about these base plates... They look very similar to the base plates in MegaBloks Pyrate sets. Are they any good? Why do you say this is a "downside"? Nevertheless I have purchased one over eBay but it hasn't been sent to me yet. Quote
KimT Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 Well I think it's a downside because: A: it's huge and kinda useless with the regular system brick (IMO) B: It's made of soft plastic like the bionicle parts and I'm not a fan of "soft" LEGO :-X C: It's "Fisher Price" or even MB *n* KimT Quote
xwingyoda Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Yes but Kim, use it to hide the Batplane mechanism and that part is fantastic !! Looks really cavish and I think it has a lot of potential ;-) Cheers, *yoda* Quote
Zarkan Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 C: It's "Fisher Price" or even MB Um, I think Fisher price is way bellow MB, because its not even a building toy. At least you build MB, and at least MB has SOME good parts, unlike Fisher Price, which is a baby toy (obviously). ;-) Quote
dillthepill Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Great review. *y* I had this set, but like you just used it for parts after I finished building it. I should've done a review for it, but it never came across my mind. Quote
