Saruman the White Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Interesting way to reply to a moderator. Thanks for the link gives a reasonable approximation of the bricks and sets He's only a moderator on the star wars part of the forum. So he has no authority here.
Nagyzee Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 From what I have gathered, I believe that a goblin is an orc, but an orc is not necessarily a goblin. Just like a laptop is a computer but a computer is not necessarily a laptop. You can call something a computer or laptop if it is both. You wouldn't call a desktop computer a laptop. As far as The Hobbit is concerned, I think all orcs in that story were the goblin type, hence the sense of interchangeability there. Computer and laptop are not interchangeable terms... and you never read of anything from Mordor or Isengard being referred to as a goblin - it is always orc (or uruk - same word, different language), so I think that suggests possibility of non-interchangeability between the terms orc & goblin. Wikipedia on Orcs - Read the Orcs, Goblins, and Uruks section. It seems that: a, rarely even Uruk-hai are called goblins b, goblin was the earlier word for these creatures which Tolkien decided to phase out and replace with the word orc. So the prominence of the goblin word in The Hobbit seems not much to do with the subtype of orcs involved there but more with that it's the older book. I guess Lego's interpretation will be heavily based upon how the Hobbit film shows the orcs (or goblins) that are featured in that book.

Poison Ivy Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Ooh. Pretty rocks and foliage. Might have to get multiples of that Weathertop and the Shelob Attacks.

Teh Stud Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Really? Then meet my authority. Hello! Nice to meet you! PJ went to a lot of effort to create weapons and armor specific to the different regions in Middle Earth. I'm hoping Lego goes to the same length... I'd love to see specialty armor for the orcs, goblins and Uruks.
piemaster1446 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I wonder when were gonna get a close-up/poster of Gollum. I really want to see him. Does anyone have any news about a Lego Lord of the Rings: The Video Game? and I wonder how Lego is going to make the 13 hobbit dwarves especially Bombur.
Darth Nihilus Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I just noticed something. Doesn't the Uruk-Hai in the very front of the preliminary box image of Uruk-Hai army look just like this: If it is, indeed, an Uruk scout, I will be most definitely buying multiples of the set for that fig.

I'm looking forward to seeing minifigures of the non 15main characthers from The hobbit. I just noticed something. Doesn't the Uruk-Hai in the very front of the preliminary box image of Uruk-Hai army look just like this: If it is, indeed, an Uruk scout, I will be most definitely buying multiples of the set for that fig. I think all the uruks look like that under their armor and some have that hair. Edited January 30, 2012 by deskp

I'm glad Peter Jackson decided to make them look less like warriors compared to Gimli, the lack of helmets allows for a lot more variation. My guess is for the Dwarf figs: Balin - Widow's peak hair and new beard mold. Bifur - New hair and beard mold. Bofur - New hat mold, printed beard. Bombur - Beard printed on face and braid printed on torso. Dori - Beard printed on face. Dwalin - New beard mold. Fili - New hair mold based on slicked back hair, printed on beard. Gloin - New hair and beard molds. Kili - Printed beard, Black Dumbledore hair/new hair mold shared with Thorin. Nori - New Hair and beard combo, a la CMS Caveman. Oin - New Hair and beard combo, a la CMS Caveman. Ori - New hood? I can only see pictures with his hood up, but I remember him having the geekiest haircut anyway :D Thorin - Printed beard, new hair mold. I just noticed something. Doesn't the Uruk-Hai in the very front of the preliminary box image of Uruk-Hai army look just like this: If it is, indeed, an Uruk scout, I will be most definitely buying multiples of the set for that fig. I thought it was an Uruk captain, such as Lurtz, Ugluk or Mauhur, as they don't wear helmets in the films to make them more recognisable as leaders. Edited January 30, 2012 by Seaber

I could be wrong but noticed a little white on some uruks faces, and armor pieces for the Uruks on the Uruk set, I hope there is a kind of variation between units to make distinguible ranks from crossbowmen to pikemen.
Skalldyr Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Seen this already? Quality pics I think Gollum looks awesome at the poster... but awful as a minifig...
Seaber Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Wow! Boromir look so much better with those arms :) Aragorn doesn't have Anduil though, maybe it'll come in a later set? It's a shame Galdalf doesn't have a better staff, but never mind :) Gollum looks incredible in that poster :D The baddies look terrific too!
The_Box Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Those swords look great and Gollum is now a must buy. Thanks for the pictures.
Haltiamieli Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Awesome, except Gollum. Bloody hell that looks horrible.
Artifex Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) I'm so going to spend a lot of money to get all those minifigs... Thanks for sharing, Skalldyr! Edited January 30, 2012 by Artifex

Nagyzee Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah. While on the poster he looks okay as an actual minifig Gollum is quite terrible unfortunately. Also no new breastplate for either Uruk-hais or regular orcs.:s
CDC Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 The figs are great, not too keen on new swords though, and yes Gollum could look better but it could have been worse. I'm pretty satisfied with the overall look and cannot wait to buy some of the sets(maybe even all of them)
Rumble Strike Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Absolutely love the Uruk-Hai! Great stuff. The minifigs look much better here than in the previous promotional pic of the Fellowship. I really can't wait to get my hands on these
CommanderR Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 The Uruk-hai looks amazing . I love the new shield.
UsernameMDM Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Looks like they are using the new longsword. I like this much better than each sword getting new molds.
