Not that short.

And then what would the Hobbits use for their dagger-size swords? :P

-Omi

I was disapponted at first that TLG didn't make specialized dark-age longswords with no cross guard, but I guess I warmed up to the gladius in this role. It's much more accurate than the highlander sword. It would have been nice to see some kind of long dagger for the Hobbits as well, but, well, use your imagination!

On another note, I'm disapponted that the orc TLG took out of the Orc Forge was the one with an alternative torso print, which I liked much better than the one we're getting...

I just recieved Gandalf Arrives, Uruk-hai Army, Mines of Moria, and Helms Deep in the mail today from Target. I can't believe how detailed and extensive Helms Deep is. And the Haldir minifigure is  His armor printing is fantastic! Lego really hit it out of the park with these sets. I might just have to break down and get Weathertop as well.

I was amazed with The detail of Theoden. I have only removerd him from my set yet, so I haven't seen haldir and won't until saturday night after my kids are asleep LOL!

Okay is any one else pissed off that Eomer's helm does NOT come with the hair plume? default_hmpfbad.gif

It would have been nice but it makes sense that they just made one helmet mold and used it for all the Rohan figs.

The Rohan swords are represented much better by the gladius than the highlander sword. The Rohirrim use shorter swords becuase they are easier to use while mounted on a horse. A longer sword, like Argaorn's or Boromir's, would be too big a cumbersome to be used effectively.

They are! I've given all of my rohirrim the gladius sword. As for the hobbits - I let 'em use the knife/dagger

Definitely would have loved a hair plume for Eomer but I think he's a pretty nice figure overall. Personally I think Eomer should not be wearing a cape, whereas the generic Rohan soldier should. But I can easily switch it myself when I get the Uruk-hai Army set.

I'd have rather seen a printed armor piece (just like Theoden's) than the plume. It is a characteristic feature, no doubt. But I really like what LEGO has done with the Rohan helmets. All very similar yet distinct.

I don't mind the lack of hair plume since he's still one of the best designed figures in the line. I'm more disapointed in the lack of movie accurate costumes for Aragorn and Frodo along with Gandalf's beard. I think they could've been handled a bit better.

Hope we see some reviews of Helms Deep soon. Thats the set I'm most interested in.

That's what I did. I'm also using my multiple somersault as generic soldiers mixing the body parts and such.

Im actually glad the Rohan helmets dont have a hole for plumes. It would look pretty awkward, like on the Prince of Persia helmets. Another alternative would be to have the plume molded onto the helmet, like the CM Spartan, but that would be very limited piece, only meant for Eomer. All in all, I think TLG found a nice balance.

I'm ok with it not being there since I'll be using that minifig and gear as a generic Rohan horseman instead of Eomer.

My Hobbits will be getting that Heroica short sword (along with moveable full length legs).

If anything generic rohan soldiers should have brown helmets, you never really see them in silver/grey metal helmets.

Also the design is quite far from any generic rohan soldier.

I don't mind people being creative and such it's jsut that in ym mind its too wrong.

Hobbits with full length legs? Seems a little odd, but to each his own!

When these were announced, I was, ecstatic! Even though I had never seen the films, and when seeing the sets I wasn't too bothered at the time, but I knew that this would mean Hobbit sets to go with the movie release in December, but this was because I had read The Hobbit book and played the game on the PS2.

On Monday just gone I found myself with some free time (I'm on exam leave at the moment)so I used it wisely and watched The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, for the first time ever! I mean I had seen bits of it before (The Ringwraiths entering Bree, Lurtz being defeated, Frodo getting stabbed at weathertop, YOU SHALL NOT PASS etc) but this was the first time I sat and watched the entire thing. I am so glad that I did! I am now eager to get these sets!

Tomorrow I'm going to watch the Two Towers!

I love these sets! The hobbits are so cute and it's amazing we get the entire fellowship in the whole wave! My only gripe is that we don't get Old Bilbo or Saruman, but they will probably come later!

I love Gimli's minifigure! I kind of wished these had come out a few years ago, because I met John Rhys Davies, when I had no knowledge of the Lord of the Rings films... poor me! I've also met Billy Boyd, but again, I had no interest in LOTR at that point so I got a bogstandard picture of him signed... AND Billy Boyd is also now the patron of The National Boys Choir of Scotland, so appears at the concerts! sadly I left this choir the year before he was announced as patron... In a few weeks time I get to meet Sean Astin at Collectormania in Milton Keynes, and I am definatley getting a picture of Samwise Gamgee signed!

Anyhow back to the LEGO...

I really hope the Orc Forge is available in the UK and isn't an exclusive to America!

All these sets bar perhaps the Orc Forge for me are must buys, but I do wish the Orc Forge came with Saruman. Other than that, I'm getting these sets! And that box thing with Frodo on it, I may have to invest on one of them too! just hope Toys R Us have that over here!

A great theme! :D

You may say that brown helmets would look better on the Rohirrim, but if you picture the plain Rohan helm in dark brown, it would look strange. I mean, it works for Theoden, but on basic soldiers, I think it would look weird. Although, it would be nice if we got another Rohan helm mold with no horse on the top, just smooth and round, and in brown.

Also, you say that Eomer's torso is too unique to be used for basic Rohirrim, and in the statement I do agree with you. Yet, I plan on having six Eomer's, with only one representing the actual character. One other with be Gamling (Theoden's second hand guy at Helm's Deep), with the use of Thor's head and Loki's cape (to differentiate him). The other four will have other bearded fleshie heads (extra Will Turner, Blackbeard, and the like), and these men will be a more elite group of Rohirrim, much akin to the Royal Guards of Meduseld. They could even represent a made up regiment of Eomer's own personal troop, with armour made in the likeness of his.

Don't worry, you'll be able to get it in the UK. I don't think we know which retailer it will be exclusive to yet, but keep in mind that you can always get it from either a LEGO Store or S@H. :classic:

If you want a better Gamling I suggest this torso with dark gray or dark red arms and Eomer legs:

The newer viking and castle themes got a fair amount of good random rohan people torsos

Btw in that post I was talking about the helmet only, but yes I think the same thing about the torso.

+ I understand you want to repurpose the extra eomers you got, I would recomend mixing up the helmets tho, the rohan solder are quite ragtag

Unfortunately, I never got any of those torsos! They are great in representing the Royal Guard, though. If I had the money, I might search for them, but I just spent most of my LEGO funds for now getting most of these sets. Also, if I can make use of all the extra Eomer's I will have, I will.

On another note, I wonder when the rest of the sets will show up on the map on the LEGO site. Only now do they have Gandalf Arrives, and if they slowly unveil the sets along the road (which is very clever), then Weathertop is next, then Moria, and so forth. Perhaps once all the sets are revealed, then the site will become more like the other LEGO sites, with a products page, a characters page, and a fun zone, etc.
